New Zealand vs the Commonwealth it is then.

it's one fucking reason. a + b = c. my issue is with c, not a or b on their own.

I can't make it any fucking simpler.

You seem to be missing (or avoiding) the whole point again and again. I’m simply asking why A is a reason?

A lad at work’s Dad has got two. His Dad is refusing to go, or let anyone use them, as he’s a mad keen India fan and has been in a massive sulk since yesterday!   ;D. The lad is gutted, I’m sure he’ll calm down and relent over the next day or so.

I’ve been buttering him up and said that if he does manage to get the old man to take his iron fist off them I’d reluctantly drop everything on Sunday and accompany him.

Not sure how many points Roy has disciplinary wise, think he got fined against Pakistan, but he definitely is getting another fine and points for that regardless of how bad a decision that was. Hope he doesn’t miss the final.

30% match fee fine and 2 de merit points so can play in the final (only had 1).

For all the statistical and on pitch success of the modern teams, the chronic under achievers of the 90s are still my idols. Well, maybe not the bowlers, because even I could tell they were medium paced shite. But I always kept thinking, this is the series where Hick and Ramprakash will turn their county form into Test form.

Joey Benjamin.  West Indian born “fast” bowler, who played a couple of tests for England in the mid 90s. I don’t think he ever set the world alight, he was one of those horses for courses selections England seemed to have a habit of making around that time.

Joey has been answered. Monty Lynch was a batsman, made the fringes of the England squad I think, maybe made a winter tour somewhere? No idea on Boiling. Nick Speke played for Lancs for a while. Didn’t set the world alight but remember him making a double hundred in a day once whilst doing the customary check of county scored on Telextext. :D

Nick Speak was a Telegraph legend for a season, averaging over 50 with a ridiculous number of runs (2000+ IIRC). It seemed to be a one off, or perhaps he didn't have the familial connections that Graham Lloyd did, as he was never spoken of in connection with the England team.

For me the two semi finals were decided by the bowling attacks of the winning teams rather than the batsmen. The New Zealand attack skilfully removed the Indian openers cheaply and were able to keep the pressure on throughout the innings in order to defend a modest total. The England attack also skilfully removed the Australian openers cheaply who were also amongst the top scorers in the tournament which makes the feat even more impressive. On the whole I thought England bowled with good control despite a few loose overs from Wood and Plunkett, Rashid was excellent. In terms of the Australian attack, I didn't think they bowled too badly but the England openers were excellent against them and actually used the extra pace of Starc to score runs. I don't think the openers offered any chances and there was certainly no luck involved, unlike Warner and Finch in the Lord's match. I really enjoyed seeing Roy putting Smith to the sword with that 21 off his over as if to say 'your taking the piss if you think I'm getting out to a part timer'.

I've been impressed by the England openers and clearly England struggle when Roy is not available. I think the final will be won or lost on how well the England openers play against a talented and skilful New Zealand bowling attack.

This is the key. If Nz bat first and Taylor and Williamson bat a lot of overs together, their total score is likely to be at least competitive. With runs on the board, Boult, Henry and Ferguson will fancy their chances of making early breakthroughs and putting England behind the rate in the first few overs.

In a one off game anything can happen. NZ do have the players to post a big score, but for one reason or another they haven't done so this World Cup. All it takes is for Guptill to middle a couple, see off the new ball and suddenly it is differnt for them. He can be as destructive as any limited overs batsmen in the world.

For NZ to win they almost certainly need to bat first and get 300 and above. I don't see them chasing that score, and I don't see England posting anything less than that if they bat first. Chasing 300 for England would still be tough in final but you'd fancy them.
