Gomez is in the we can't count on him due to always picking up injuries category.

Matip and Bobby will probably be in the squad for United and Jota can't be too far away from training.  Thiago is Thiago (see Ox) and Ramsay probably wouldn't make the squad anyway. Konate is the only one I'm slighty concerned about it's radio silence regarding him. It's just a matter of getting through the early stages of the season.

It really isn't considering the amount of games we played last season, coupled with an early start to the season.
I mean it kind of is. We can almost field a second XI with players who are currently injured or are just coming back.

Kelleher, Ramsay, Matip, Konate, Kostas, Thiago, Jones, Ox, Firmino, and Jota. We’ve only play one competitive match this season and we’re already on the back foot.
I love mankind; it's people I can't stand.

Fucking hell. Second game of the season and we’ve got Milner and Phillips starting games. What are they actually doing in training

It's fair to say whoever was in charge of pre season conditioning has drawn a bit of attention on themselves.

Maybe it's purely bad luck, but it's not looking great that we couldn't get Keita/Gomez/Henderson out there (although perhaps Henderson's is a tactical decision based on his poor performance)

Milner starting isn't out of necessity though, is it? We've Henderson and Keita sitting on the bench. He's chosen Milner because he wants him there, not because he's no choice.

I mean really, we're only missing one of our first choice midfielders in Thiago. If Jones and Ox were fit it'd probably still be the same midfield tonight.

No other team played the amount of games we played last season, that's not being positive it's stating a fact. Then we have starting the season earlier than usual to fit in a stupid World Cup half way through. There was always a chance that we'd be affected in someway especially with a ruddy far east tour as well.

If that’s the reason we’re in a lot of trouble as that’s not something that’s going to get better … so hopefully it’s just bad luck

EDIT add Bobby to the list now too. Each post there's a new player out (Hendo initially suggested to be in). |

If Konate is out for any meaningful length of time we must buy a CB this window. It's farcical - we can never count on Matip and Gomez. Not only are they injury prone, they seem to have this incredible knack of getting injured or picking up knocks right when we'd actually need to use them (but can stay fit when they're out the side, seemingly). Not to mention that Gomez is our only proper back up for Trent (and no, I'm not counting Milner who is apparently now one of our first choice midfielders...).

That line-up is a pretty damning indictment on Naby Keita's place in the squad.

Forgetting your countryman Ramsay as Trent cover.

Oh shit, he's injured too.

It could well be a bit of bad luck as well, maybe it's happening to us at the beginning and will then start to affect others as the season continues.

That midfield is so weak…big win this if we get it
Presumably he wanted to play Elliott, then Milner makes some sense left of centre, as he can drop in and support Robertson. Trent may spend a lot of tonight drifting inside, or at least those positions where Henderson usually whips in a diagonal ball, with Elliott and Salah linking wide.

Looking forward to seeing Darwin start. Phillips is the odd one, but if Gomez isn't fully fit, it is what it is.

More concerned about the midfield. Would rather Phillips than Gomez

Milner and Elliott were both good off the bench last week. We do t have many who know how to play the left midfield position the way we play it but Milner can cover it, and Keita can hopefully get 30 minutes. Harvey started games like this at this stage last season. He’ll be ok.

Didn’t even check the back four until I saw Gomez on the bench and thought maybe Matip was back. That does leave a concern obviously but Nat never got to play with Virg two seasons ago. You couldn’t ask for someone better to play alongside. It’s far from ideal but let’s have some faith that we can manage with him in there alongside an otherwise full strength back four (and keeper and Fab).

Bobby not even being in the bench is more of a concern again though. Seems to pick up a lot of niggles and does make the attacking options very slim. Fair to say we’ll be seeing Carvalho at some point.

That team will surely give palace a lift. Just watching the chelsea game yesterday and everyone coming of their bench didn't really weaken the team.  Strange how we couldn't have at least brought one in given what's going to happen all season with injuries and age kicking in, but I never doubt this team.

Injuries playing a significant part in that team.

Both Milner and Keita played well when the came on so guess they earned a place. I hope fab is more on it today.
