Marc Bartra will undergo surgery to repair a serious fracture and remove shrapnel from the wound.

Not a lot of new information at the pc. Three explosions. No details about what explosives were used only that they were "serious". Batra has broken a bone in his arm and is currently in surgery. The attorney said that they have found a claim of responsibility close to the scene, but can't say anything about it yet. They're still trying to find out whether it's genuine. Fourth object has been found, but it turned out to be "junk". The windows are strengthened but not bullet proof.

From the Guardian;

Police have confirmed that the Dortmund team bus was the intended target of the attack. It is not clear whether the contents of the letter they discovered led them to that conclusion, although they presumably have other reasons for suspecting it, as they have not yet authenticated the letter. They also say that tomorrow’s match will go ahead under heightened security.

More or on the letter: police say it contains as claim of responsibility for the attack. But to repeat they have not confirmed the authenticity of the letter.

Police explain that the explosions went off just as the Dortmund bus was passing by but they do not know how they were detonated. They are keeping an open mind as to the possibility that someone was watching and waiting.

Police were asked about rumours of some kind of blackmail plot against Dortmund and replied “That’s the first we’ve heard about that.” Asked whether it was a suspected terrorist attack, they repeated that they are keeping their minds open to several possibilities.

According to Rafa Honingstein, Bayern were subjected to a €3m blackmail plot in Feb 2016 that involved a potential bombing but was done by a 63 year old amateur- that is probably why it was asked. But also can't discount it as could be lucrative to organised crime.

It's highly unlikely that a second attack would be planned immediately after and the likely perpetrator is going to be shitting themselves and on the run. The attack wasn't at the stadium and you don't stop doing shit just because of something like this.

At the end of the day, they will play again and whether they are targeted doesn't really matter if they play their next game tomorrow, at the weekend or next week. Police will make sure that they are as save as possible...

I never knew that. I suppose also Dortmund have struggled financially but I assumed they are more healthy now. It looks as though the want the game to go ahead I imagine there will be a lot of extra security.

Another thing some great photos of Dortmund fans opening their homes to Monaco fans so well done to them for that.

Hans-Joachim Watzke:

Quote
There was a bomb attack near the exit to the hotel. When the team bus drove from the hotel car park onto Wittbräucker Straβe, three explosive devices were detonated. Marc Bartra was taken to hospital having sustained an injury to his hand. We then immediately got in contact with the security delegates and our colleagues from Monaco. The match has been rescheduled for 18:45 CET tomorrow. Tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled fixture. I would like to pay a huge compliment to our fans, who have dealt with this in a good, matter-of-fact way and supportive way. The team and the coaching staff are obviously shocked. We now need to channel that in some way. It won’t be easy to get tonight’s events out of our heads. The Black and Yellow community come together in such crisis situations. And I think the team will feel that tomorrow."

Reinhard Rauball:

Quote
"Naturally this is now an extremely difficult situation for the players. But they are professionals and I am convinced they will deal with it and perform tomorrow. It would be bad if the people that did this manage to disrupt the team in some way as well."

There's also been in the not too distant past instances of political terrorism from far Left and far Right groups in Germany so it could be one of those groups too.

After the attack on a teambus from Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday evening, security authorities examine whether the attack could have an Islamic background. This is due to information from S üddeutscher newspaper , NDR and WDR that a unilateral letter was found at the scene, which begins with the words "In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful." The document refers to the attack on the Berlin Christmas market and claims that German tornadoes are involved in assassinating Muslims in the Caliphate of the so-called Islamic State.

Therefore athletes and other celebrities "in Germany and other Kreuzfahrer nations" would be on a "death list of the Islamic state." This applies until the German tornadoes are withdrawn and the American air base is closed in the Palatinate of Ramstein. The letter is not signed.

German prosecutors said that two Islamic extremists were the focus of the attack probe and that one of them has been detained.

Koehler says authorities have "significant doubts" about another letter posted online claiming an anti-fascist group carried out the attack.

The injured policeman was a motorcycle outrider escorting the coach to the stadium when the three bombs detonated. He suffered hearing damage.

I have just been going ape about it on the UEFA Champions League thread. An absolutely disgusting act by UEFA. The players found out this afternoon that one of the bomb contained nails, and about just how lucky they were. A totally insane and insensetive way to deal with the situation.

German police now confirming that the suspect was a ISIS unit commander who entered Europe through Turkey in early 2016.  :wanker Fcuk sake i wonder how many of these headbangers are now located in Europe.

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESSAPRIL 13, 2017, 5:24 A.M. E.D.T.
BERLIN — German prosecutors said Thursday that a 26-year-old Iraqi detained following an attack on a top soccer club is suspected of membership in the Islamic State group, but so far there is no evidence he was involved in the explosions that injured a Borussia Dortmund player and a police officer.

The hunt for the bomber was continuing.

Federal prosecutors said the Iraqi — identified only as Abdul Beset A. in line with German privacy laws — allegedly joined IS in Iraq by late 2014 and led a unit of about 10 fighters involved in preparing kidnappings, extortions and killings.

He traveled to Turkey in March 2015 and remained in contact with members of IS after arriving in Germany in early 2016, prosecutors said.

However, "so far the investigation has turned up no evidence that the suspect participated in the attack," they said in a statement.

A judge will decide Thursday on whether to keep A. in investigative detention, as requested by prosecutors.

The man was arrested Wednesday, a day after three explosions shattered a window of the Borussia Dortmund bus as it was heading from the team's hotel to the stadium for a Champions League match against AS Monaco.

Investigators said three copies of a note claiming responsibility for the attack were found at the scene, but are puzzling over the style and contents of the letter.

The note contains phrases suggesting an Islamist motive, with calls for Germany to withdraw reconnaissance jets that are assisting the fight against the Islamic State group, and for the closure of the U.S. Ramstein Air Base in Germany.

Experts say the letter's mix of correct, complicated German and obvious mistakes raises the possibility that it is a red herring intended to place blame on Islamic extremists.

Police say the metal-packed devices used in the attack were sophisticated and would have required detailed knowledge of explosives and detonators, suggesting possible military training."

http://www.dw.com/en/new-message-claims-responsibility-for-dortmund-blast/a-38433218

Quote
The authors of the email described the Dortmund bus attack as a "final warning" and threatened another strike next Saturday in Cologne, the German "Tagesspiegel" daily reported on Friday.

The message mentions Adolf Hitler and derides multiculturalism, adding that a "Cologne squad" is standing by to spill "colorful blood." This could be a reference to the upcoming pro-tolerance rally in Cologne, where protesters are set to rally against the anti-immigration AfD party. One of the protesters' slogans is "colorful instead of brown," with brown symbolizing fascism, the "Tagesspiegel" said.

German federal prosecutors are examining the email in Karlsruhe, spokeswoman Frauke Köhler confirmed to the DPA news agency.

The anonymous note is casting further doubt on preliminary reports that Muslim extremists were behind the bombing that injured two people. Upon inspecting the scene on Tuesday, police found three identical letters that allegedly mentioned the "Islamic State" militia, slammed Chancellor Angela Merkel, and demanded that Germany pull its jets from the campaign in Syria.

However, investigators now have "significant doubts" - the letters could be fabricated to mislead the authorities, German public broadcasters and the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" reported on Friday. The officials also received a claim of responsibility from a left-wing group, but the prosecutors reportedly doubt its authenticity as well.

According to German media, the authorities were also considering the possibility that a foreign security service was behind the bombing. The attacker allegedly used military-grade detonators for the triple blast, which are very hard to come by in Germany.

A right wing group trying to pin a terrorist attack on Muslim extremists is bad enough.  A right wing group possibly backed by *Russian intelligence operatives would be worse.

Russian intelligence operatives masquerading as a right wing group trying to pin a terrorist attack on Muslim extremists becomes a nesting doll of vipers.

*When an article says "foreign security service" we all know what they really mean.  Who else would be interested in doing it?
