Degen joins Stuttgart on loan
« on: August 8, 2010, 04:10:28 pm »
Sorry if there's a thread for this, I couldn't see it.

Liverpool have confirmed that Philipp Degen has joined VfB Stuttgart on loan until the end of the 2010-11 season.

The right-back was signed by Rafael Benitez on a free transfer after leaving Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2008.

Commenting on his move to Germany, Degen said: "I'm looking forward to the challenge and the wonderful VfB fans.

"I really want to make use of my chance. It's fantastic to be working together with Christian Gross again. I had a very successful time with him in Basel."

VfB Stuttgart boss Gross said: "I know Philipp very well and rate him highly both as a football player and as a person.

"He is a very athletic and fast player, who often looks to push forward. Philipp wants to take his chance at VfB."

Didn't think he was too bad when playing on the wing a few times, but certainly wasn't good enough at RB. And was far too injury prone. Good luck to him, hope he does well. :wave

Says it all that I struggle to think of a worse signing under Benitez*

Shite whichever way you look at it, and his only significant contribution, was his unfortunate bystander role in ensuring Sami left the club.

Good riddance, pity we can't sell him, although at least he has the decency to go out on loan rather than do a Diao. I hope VfB are paying 100% of his wages.

Not the solution I was hoping for, but hey.. at least he's gone for now. Let's celebrate :scarf

..and of course. Good luck to you Degen. Hopefully you'll get your career on track again. The bundesliga should suit you better.

It could have been better he could have signed on a free but then again it could have been worse and he could still be here.

Here's hoping he does enough to make the move permanent.

This. We have seen some crap players, Degen doesn't rate on my All Shite Squad.
The one most important thing that we all must remember, in case it slipped our mind, is this club is much more important and bigger than anybody. I'll never forget that and anybody that does is being a wee bit irresponsible and stupid I think because the club is more important than any one individual. The Club is, The Club.

Diouf?

And what the hell has he done to be labeled as worst person to play for LFC? He even isn't the worst player ever ability wise. He was not good enough, really poor positionally and had almost now footballing brain but I've seen worse. People forget the likes of Ferri, Diomede, Diao. He isn't even worst Rafas signing (Keane wins it hands up and on his arse).

Good luck to him and hopefully he finds his level. LFC certainly wasn't that.
