VAR only looked at if in the box or out? The why do they check anything at all, if there was no contact at all they’re saying they would have still given a penalty!!!!

Missing that 3rd midfielder. VAR isnt right. If it can go to VAR and they still get the decision completely wrong then it needs to be fucked off. Need to get a hold of this game

Michael Owen thinks it was a penalty.

Because of course he does.

Baffling. Him and Giggs claiming it's probably be given for a trailing leg afterwards. Fuck off

I don’t mind that VAR justification too much. Just a ducking shame it wasn’t in the box...

So basically Dean blew for the foul, then the VAR gobshites decided it was inside the box.

So there's a clear disconnect between the ref and the VAR officials. You can't have one of them deciding one aspect and the others deciding the other. I think Dean only gives the foul becuase he reckons it was outside the box.

Yeah so essentially the ball could hit you on the arse on the 18 yard line, the referee could give a free kick against you for handball and then VAR can check it and say it’s in the area so penalty for handball even though it never went near a hand ;D
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Fabinho and Gomez haven't won a single aerial challenge between them, makes it too easy for them to get out. Can't help but think van dijk would be gobbling these up.

It's something the pair of them will have to learn to cope with in the coming weeks though. I think both will improve but there are going to be rocky moments until then.

Anyone else notice the Sheffield United players throwing themselves to the floor on the penalty area after the VAR decision? Even they seemed to suss that they might luck out on another penalty.

Why wouldn't you when you play us? Your guaranteed to get a penalty. Or your you can put a player out for the season and not even get a yellow. So not only are VAR making the game worse but actually more dangerous.

Totally agree. Gomez in particular is like a headless chicken when the ball in the air - such poor positional sense

The commentators seemed to suggest that Fabinhos sweeping leg that brought the player down after he won the ball made it a foul and thus a penalty. Does this interpretation make the penalty a correct decision?

If he determines that its in because its on the line than hes got to get the ref to look at the obvious error that he got the ball.

Anyone else just laugh when Dean pointed to the spot?

So now in 2020 you don't even need to be in the box to concede a penalty. Good to know!

I was certain he was going to give a pen for Robbo's handball too

he's always been like this. Used to give him the benefit of the doubt at right back because he was constantly lost under the ball with diagonals but he's hardly much better at centre half. He's not strong enough either.

Owen and some other twat making a case that it was a penalty on the half-time show.  :no

Also saying VAR is working perfectly
Owen's had a word in his ear about his earlier lambasting of var, then.

I thought VAR was for when's refs got it badly wrong and VAR should go "think you might wanna have another look at that..." and not to microscopely rexamine a decision that is far from 'clear and obvious'.

Anyone who thinks this isn't retribution from the league for what we're trying to do as a club with project big picture and a european league is nuts. Every decision will now go against us.That wasn't even a foul let alone a penalty. It wasn‘t even inside. They've gifted Sheffield a penalty just because.

I said this last week only semi-seriously but today confirms it. I spent a few minutes hitting refresh on my phone expecting Bobby's goal to be chalked off, too.

Funny how the Mancs aren't getting the same treatment.

VAR ref wasn’t even interested if it was a foul. He was only interested in where it occurred.

Interesting interprarion of "obvious and clear error"  ;D I would have tought that "was it a fault or not" would have been the main theme. Then again referees seem to have qualified immunity to such things ... VAR is shit.

I almost miss that ref, he was just laughably inept, these c*nts are corrupt.
