I hope not! I could've gotten him insted of Gesink or Samu in my team, but decided not to. :P But other than that, I won't mind if he finally get his GT win.

Can Lotto do a decent TTT? Because I can see Gilbert keeping the yellow jersey for about two weeks if they do.

Not convinced at their TTT ability, coupled with the work they put in today I'd not back Gilbert to still be in yellow tomorrow night.

HTC all the way for me. It's short and flat as a pancake, HTC train to overpower all... which means Tony Martin in yellow? Can't see them defending it though, Lotto and Gilbert would defend it, I think.

Nah was watching the Eurosport one.
Eurosport for live, ITV4 for highlights show is the way forward.

Wiggins gets the same time as the Contador group if anyone's arsed.

HTC To win the TTT for me too, though I like Sky's line-up so can see them there or there abouts.

Edit, more good news for Geraint Thomas too, another white Jersey for him.

Thought I saw the young Schecklet with Contador? Was that Frankie boy?

Half of my GC boys lost time. :( At least Gesink, Vino and Basso didn't.

EDIT: Cyclingnews has Andrew in the first group. So Contador and Samu are the big losers today? Aha, the young Schecklet fell inside the 3km barrier so gets the protection.

Realised that in England it is on ITV 4 as well, I can cope with Liggett, Sherwin
and Boardman.
After all that`s gone on over the last month or so with crashes I was expecting
the worse after the 8km. crash.
What annoys me even worse are people standing right on the outside of tight
bends as riders coming round.

Big smiles from Gilbert and Skippy, hard day tomorrow which will upset some of the
contenders with weak teams.

I was positive I saw Wiggins coming in after Contador as well, that's a pleasant surprise. :)

What happened today shouldf make the rest of the tour a bit more interesting, especially if the expected heatwave arrives in France, Contador will need to attack early now, he can't afford to wait until the Alps in the third week now, still fully expect him to win though.

It'll be a bit funny watching Cadel actually thinking he has a chance now. He'll do his white face thing and cave in the first time he under any sort of pressure, as usual.

I have a feeling Cancellara is going to have a crack on the final climb.

Good shout that. Just went a little too early.

Fascinating opening stage today with one or two idiot spectators getting causing crashes. Bad day at the office already for Contador. Pleased for Gilbert and his win but delighted for Cadel in second.

Tomorrow's TTT could shake things up a little also....

I'm quite new to watching Le Tour, but 23km isn't particularly far for a TTT, right? There'll be seconds won on this stage, rather than minutes?

Anyone noticed that on the RCUK fantasy thing RAWK is the second ranked mini league.  Early days, one stage at a time, it's a marathon not a sprint, but good going for a footy site. Well played lads.

I just thought I post a few things related to the youngest and oldest winner of the Tour de France, just thought some might find it interesting...

Quote
Henri Cornet, who won the 1904 TDF at the age of 19, after the first 4 in the GC were disqualified for cheating.

That year the entire TDF was plagued by rabid cheating, as riders hitched rides on cars and trains since many of the stages were so long that riding went on well into the night. You think fans get rowdy now? Back then they threw nails on the road or even physically attacked their favorites rivals. Cornet actually had to ride 40k on flat tires in final stage.

Quote
Several riders were ahead of Lambot on the general classification and suffered 'crippling' mechanical issues. Philippe Thys (first 3 time winner) broke his wheel and lost 3 hours. Hector Heusghem broke his bicycle and exchanged it for a new one (illegal at the time) and was given a 1 hour penalty for the infraction. That is how Lambot was able to take over the lead and win the Tour de France at the age of 36 in 1922.

There is some really good information on this in the book, "The Story of the Tour de France"  --a book I'd like to buy.

Saw that.

Also the decision to leave Cadel in rather than bring in another sprinter for that first stage paid dividends for me. Currently top for now.

No points today for the TTT. Would have thought they could have at least done some scoring based upon your chosen team. Oh well...

23km and flat, less than 25 mins for the winner I'd think. There won't be big winners to today, but there might be losers. Obviously Sanchez is going to take another hit. Contador maybe too, 'cause there just aren't big strong guys or TTists in that Saxo Team. Another 30secs for the steak man? Which means no gifts ala Giro, he needs to be aggresive and put some time into other riders.

Anyone noticed that on the RCUK fantasy thing RAWK is the second ranked mini league.  Early days, one stage at a time, it's a marathon not a sprint, but good going for a footy site. Well played lads.
The only way is up for the RAWK union, because I don't think many looked into the rules as much as we did - the GC submission / first day transfer trick should give us edge over most of other leagues (although only 3 (?) of us did it in the end, rest of ye are just lazy sods). I think the bigging up of Gilbo we did in the thread made many get him, that's why we're up. Sharing is caring. ;) If one of us gets some of the prizes, I'll be made up!

Solid but unspectacular start by myself. Made some good calls (Gilbo, Hushovd, Rojas, Vino [although wanted a bit more from him], No to Cav and Petacchi and Spartacus) and few bad ones (Samu over Cadel, not getting Tony Martin in, about which I was 50/50, but decided not to). Martin for Schecklet, Cuddles for Samu and I'd be rocking some awesome 120 points. Really should've gotten Martin, because I've been bigging up HTC for the TTT for about a week.  :( Oh well, gonna wait it up now.
