Anyone watched this? Couldn't find a previous topic on it. Got the boxset for Christmas, thought it was pretty good but off the walls

Superb, second only to The Wire as far as I'm concerned.  The quality drops a fair bit after the whole Laura Palmer thing is resolved, but its still really good.  The last episode is sublime.  The film is worth watching too.

Yeah not sure of the Windom Earle relevance, seemed the story was there to drag the show on

Loved it. The Black Lodge scenes have to be some of the most frighteningly weird - yet brilliant - ever shot for TV and possibly film. Sheryl Lee would also be my ideal woman back then. She's absolutely gorgeous.

My favourite TV show ever, watched it as a kid when BBC2 showed it back in the day - used to scare the shit out of me.

As has been said, it goes downhill in the second season (if I remember rightly Lynch had minimal involvement then due to him shooting Wild at Heart), but yep the final episode is amazing. The film is good too, but very dark. Put a lot of fans off at the time.

The little fella in the Black Lodge still freaks me out.

Not sure I would want to go back and watch it again though.

mad as hell. Great show. Yes, the quality does dip once the focus moves away from Laura Palmer, but it's still really good, especially the finale which is incredible. Those first 10-12 episode stretch is as good as TV gets, I think. BOB has to be one of the scariest characters ever.

I love the way Lynch (not only in Twin Peaks) portrays evil.
It makes me want to rewatch his movies, it makes me think and feel, contemplate about myself and life.
Twin Peaks has had a profound influence on me because it was the first proper introduction to his vision.
I wish only that I could somehow forget it and watch it again for the first time.

Oh and the movie is good as well, I like that you get a few original roll frames in the extended dvd box set, nice touch.

Loved it when it was originally on and bought the box set a couple of years ago to watch it all again with my other 3/4 who had never seen it. It was every bit as good as i had remembered and given the dross we have to put with it was years ahead of it's time.

The film, 'Fire Walk with me' was OK, lots of Lynch metaphores - Blue rose equals supernatural etc. But was somewhat spoiled by knowing who 'Bob' was.

The massive disappointment was that the original thick TV exec's wouldn't let Lynch and Mark Frost run with their plan to keep the 'Bob' character's identity a secret until the second series. They held the purse strings and the production team had to back down and reveal the truth. It ruined the planned story arc and that was apparently why the Windom Earle character was introduced to fill the gap. It was also the reason why they never went back to it, even though there are the regular rumours about a new series. Don't think Lynch ever forgave them for messing it up and curtailing their vision for the show.

Never seen anything else quite like it and every viewing brings a little gem you missed previously. Can't recommend it highly enough.

The casting of Bob was a lucky accident.  Frank Silva worked on the sets and got stuck between a bed and a dresser, Lynch seen the image on camera and Bob, as we know him, was born.

Unfortunately, Frank Silva died of an AIDS related illness in 95.

Lynch is on record saying that he still thinks about Twin Peaks, I still hope he brings it back, especially given the whole '25 years' thing.  Can't see it though.

I loved the first series, never seen the film. From the moment Dale Cooper did a strange monologue into his recorder to (Dana was it) as he made his way to the town, think he became became my sister and I's favorite character. Sometimes the story could be a tad confusing but they generally pulled off the storyline idea's, were inventive and knew how to do a cliffhanger. Despite the difficulty of having so many characters, it usually managed to give them all enough screen time, they were an intresting (sometimes quite eccentric bunch), enjoyable romances and rivalries, a dose of humor. The show had an enjoyable strangeness to it from the start and anything could make perfect sense. The mystical element and the atmosphere of the strange was pretty awesome, anything could happen and it was intresting to see what they did with the freedom it provided.

The problem was the first half of the second series. My sister and I had loved the series finale, looking forward to seeing how the mystery would play out, rooting for certain relationships and innocently unaware (despite watching this years after it's release) of how various pressures had been brought on the writers. Seemed we spent half of the series wondering why one of our favorite romances had suddenly vanished and was treated as if it had never ever happened. Ever. I wanted to slap one or two characters, the main stories just didn't interest me but glad we kept going. Second half was much more like its old self with characters+their relationships, entertaining mystery and stories and a strong finale.

Love Twin Peaks. Got the box set a couple of years back and although it looks a bit dated - clothes people are wearing and all that - it's still quality. Sags a bit in the middle with all the business with broody James - yawn! The second-last episode (29?) was really well done, the Miss Twin Peaks contest and all that. Woah! And the big tall old man who would bring a glass of milk to the hotel room - he was so likeable. Leo is freaky, Leland a legend. Best watched in November IMO.

Great when Lynch worked on it, turned sour midway through the second season when it became just another show with boring tropes (slapstick comedy, "humourous" sideplots, love interests) to appeal to "mass audiences", then returned to form when Lynch returned for the final episode. Shame the story was never resolved.

the boring tropes you are referring to... Leo being the vegetable and Big Ed's wife (cant recall her name) thinking she was a teenager again were the most painful. The love triagle with Dick, Andy and Lucy was dire too.

Still, for the most part, it was outstanding!

There were rumours floating about last month but they've all been rubbished, the twenty-five years are up in three years so maybe then, although I think Lynch is more likely to make another Twin Peaks film than any continuation of the show.  Lynch is currently working on another film script by all accounts, so that's something.

Yeah I read that the rumours had been rubbished...but then I also read that "the buzz" caused by the rumours had got studio bosses (abc I think?) wet for the idea of bringing it back? Glad to hear that he's working on another film! Will also be very interested to see what his daughter comes up with next after the excellent Chained and Surveillance...

I really liked Surveillance but I thought Chained was a bit 'meh', I thought the 'twist' completely undermined the rest of the film.  She also made this Indian film called 'Hisss' about some snake/magic ritual.  It was fucking bizzare even for a member of the Lynch family, really was nonsensical rubbish, quite bloody though.

Yeah I did spot that....imdb tried to catagorize it and ended up with...Comedy | Drama | Horror...never a good sign so gave it a serve!

Take on baord your issues with Chained, some great acting on display though I thought!
