can't remember if I've posted in here before...

Best female voice has to be Karen Carpenter

Best male voice has to be Art Garfunkel

It's funny Dave, I use to hate my brother's musical taste, it was all Deep Purple and Black Sabbath yuk, yuk. But one day I came across the King Crimson one and  I loved it. I remember listening to In the Court of the Crimson King, the lyrics are brilliant and you can just picture it all in your mind as you listen to it. Quality stuff.

Funnily enough Jill I liked soul, blues and punk as a kid and made a point of refusing to listen rock and prog and the like.

It's only in the last 10 year's that I've started to listen to it and I love it .Just goes to show how stupid I was as a kid.

This is one of my favourite piece's of music from when I was growing up.

Esther Phillips doing the Gil Scott Heron piece Home Is Where The Hatred Is.And doing it better than Gil,which is pretty special as to me gil is the greatest artist of his generation

Definitely, more blues and soul than Mick could ever manage.

Here he is with Ray Charles live, and you don't even notice Ray on the piano.

Have you ever seen the duet he did with Nat King when he was 11? He's 11 and so talented.

Can't believe that I just found out that he died, I remember listing to his last album a couple of years and loving it, then starting to dig on his early works, that album is a masterpiece. I feel truly gutted now.

My contribution to the thread.

Fiona Apple: always an amazing singer, but on his last album I felt that she has grown a lot.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/bIlLq4BqGdg" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/bIlLq4BqGdg</a>

Jonathan Meiburg of Shearwater: unbelievable range.

Julia Holter: her music is heavily sampled but what makes it special to me is her unique and amazing voice.

I've been listening to Bobby since 1982 when he released his first album, and for me his voice is more an instrument than a  voice.

I mean he can sing, just listen to him cover Moondance, but listening to him freestyle you wouldn't know you're listening to a voice if you didn't know.

If you know what I mean.Try this.

For me, Mike Patton is the greatest singer ever, what he can't do with his voice ain't worth doing

This is just gorgeous and with the arrangement, just bass and a little percussion, there's no place to hide.

Beautiful voice - one of the best male opera singers today (maybe one of the best ever in his range)

An honourable mention to Joyce DiDonato, one of the finest mezzo-soprano's performing today

Allan Clarke from The Hollies had a great voice. Especially good on 'He Ain't Heavy..' - no one can sing it like he did.
