They have suspended the search for the night according to the BBC.

FC Nantes have postponed their cup game which was meant to be played tomorrow too.  Their fans have been gathering this evening at a vigil for him.

Slim chance I know but I hope they find him alive tomorrow and the pilot.

The plane struggled to take off and apparently he was worried about the flight before they were even in the air, wish that he had trusted his instincts. Any loss of life like this is tragic and we shouldn't forget the pilot but there's something haunting about a man living his dream and about to play in the premier league only to be robbed of that suddenly. Hoping he's still found of course but doesn't look good at all.

Stupid of the BBC and other news companies asking fans of Cardiff for how they feel, as there are bound to be stupidly insensitive things said by them, especially as they won't even have any attachment to the player yet.

How would this actually be known?

Sala reportedly sent a WhatsApp voice message to family, saying he was "really scared".

Media in Argentina reported that he said: "I'm on a plane that looks like it's going to fall apart."

I don't like flying anyway, but there's no way I'd get on a little plane like that. My friend who's a pilot said he stopped taking small planes up as he just didn't trust them anymore.

Is it too early to ask why Cardiff City, a Premier League club, were allowing their new signing to be flying in such a way?  Did they not know he was traveling back to France?  It is such a tragic waste.

Just heard of the whatsapp messages and stuff, that must have been so scary for him considering he was already concerned about the aircraft from the previous flight... I read somewhere (not gonna say reports cause it was online) that it was a private plane owned by the pilot as a small company... these sometimes don't get all the checks you would with a larger company before each flight and so on.... obviously not stating this as fact of what happened in this circumstance but it is why there is a higher percentage of crashes in small aircraft owned privately than commercial where every flight is checked over and then again on every flight it makes.

Sad affair either way, such a high in his life and then this, realistically can't see them being alive, if they survived the crash and were in the water the temperatures and weather would have got them by now.

peace to him and the pilot, a very tragic story. I hope they are found so their families have some closure. :(

Guernsey Police have tweeted the following this morning:

Quote
We are searching based on four possibilities:

1. They have landed elsewhere but not made contact.
2. They landed on water, have been picked up by a passing ship but not made contact
3. They landed on water and made it into the life raft we know was on board
4. The aircraft broke up on contact with the water, leaving them in the sea.

Our search area is prioritised on the life raft option.

They must think there is a chance they survived the crash.  I'd still be surprised with a positive outcome but it's good to see there is still hope.

I think you always have to assume best case scenario during SAR otherwise what's the point?

Really do hope like the police that they managed to get on the raft but I can't imagine they wouldn't have found them by now if that were the case, the tides are very powerful here but they are also very well known and charted daily of their movements for local fishermen and other boating stuff... so I assume they searched possible areas any wreckage or flotation device could have drifted to.

It is sad to say but it is more likely they crashed and sunk in my eyes although I'd much rather be wrong about that.

to be honest it's not like you hear of these crashes often or at all, there are hundreds of small aircraft flying between UK and France daily, here in Jersey where I live plenty of people (my family included) will just pay for a trip with a local plane owner to go to the UK when picking up a Dog or whatever because it's cheaper and quicker than commercial.

small planes are scarier than flying commercial for sure but hundreds if not thousands of these flights take place with no issue on a daily basis, this is just one of those hindsight things where looking back you can commend on what should have been but at the time you might not have made anything of it.

They offered to arrange a flight but he said he’d arrange it apparently.

Times are saying the plane is registered to a holding company believed to be owned by the agent Willie McKay, who helped broker the transfer. According to the Times, Cardiff would have put Sala on a commercial flight and had access to other planes. Cardiff did not book him on the flight and are trying to ascertain who arranged/booked him on the flight

Emiliano Sala: Search for footballer and pilot called off

The search for missing footballer Emiliano Sala and pilot David Ibbotson has been called off after rescuers failed to find their plane.

Cardiff City's Argentine striker, 28, and Mr Ibbotson were on the aircraft that disappeared from radar on Monday.
After three days, authorities made the decision to abandon the search.

Guernsey Police tweeted at 15:15 GMT to say rescuers were "no longer actively searching" for the plane.
The statement, from harbourmaster Capt David Barker said the chances of survival "are extremely remote".
"We reviewed all the information available to us, as well as knowing what emergency equipment was on board, and have taken the difficult decision to end the search," he added.

He told BBC News: "I understand Emiliano Sala's family are not content with the decision to stop the search and I fully understand that.

"I'm absolutely confident that we couldn't have done any more."

Awful for the families, they're unlikely to get any form of closure now. So sad.
Rafa Benitez: "I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool. I have no words to thank you enough for all these years and I am very proud to say that I was your manager. Thank you so much once more and always remember: You'll never walk alone."
