Was that article written by Mary Whitehouse? It's 90% complaining about female models ruining the children/women/country.

They do look very dated, though. If there's one thing in sport that has been the subject of a sea change in the last few years, it's women participating, not just on the pitch, but in studios and on the sideline. I can remember clearly the first time MOTD had a female match comms, and it sounded so weird but now it's commonplace. Joanne Cantwell in the GAA, ex England players on Sky, not just as presenters but expert panellists. In that light, those pics of scantily clad women decorating the male athletes look pretty fucking ridiculous.

Mark Farrelly
So it's a bloke morally chastising women for their choice of work?

If you say he's complaining about the men/industry involved, then what he's saying is that the women are too ignorant to realise what's best for themselves, and need to protected by a brave man such as himself.

In that light, those pics of scantily clad women decorating the male athletes look pretty fucking ridiculous.
That seems like awfully top-down moral grandstanding. It isn't a zero-sum game. A woman can be a commentator or a model, or both if she's proficient. Same as a man can. I remember Bolo Zenden's sexy photoshoots.

Should these women lose their professions because modern hand-wringers seek the nearest fainting couch at the sight of an attractive woman willingly posing with male athletes, and being paid to do so?

I was nearly taking you seriously until that point.

Have a look at those pics again, and ask yourself, how often do you see that type of promotion these days? In my experience, not very often. Society has changed. You may not like that, but there we are.

Stephen Kenny's got the 21s to the semis of the Toulon tournament. Only the Brazilians in our way of glory now. They're playing their under 22s as they're so scared of us.

17s held their own in the Euros and word on the street is the 19s are handy enough. Maybe things are looking up.

Conor Ronan, Jason molumby, Aaron Connolly would all improve or at least add energy to that side. Awful to watch, the u21s play good football, will be interesting to see how a lot of the players develop in the next couple of years.

Otherwise known as the day Paul McGrath stole Roberto Baggio's soul.
And as an encore made Phil Babb look like Franco Baresi.

Unfair on the Babbster. He was club captain that year at a top division side, he was very much his own player.

Anyone watch the Switzerland match tonight? I thought we were absolutely shite until we went 1-0 down when we started to play alright. Does make you wonder why they can't have that urgency at 0-0 and go for the win.

That's the problem though, isn't it? Proper coaching and recruitment of some of our GAA athletes would help our national team greatly.

Six goals in seven games.
Half of those are against Gibraltar, and even one of those was an o.g.

I've stopped watching them. What they do isn't technically 'football', and it's not worth my valuable time watching James McClean hoof a ball into the stand or Jeff Hendricks shin a ball over the sideline for 90 minutes.

If you exclude the minnows, it's easier to qualify than not qualify, and we won't even manage that.
