What did you want him to do exactly? Crack jokes between riffs and synths? Not everyone frontman has to be a Liam Gallagher clone.
Right, cos Liam is the only way to front a Glastonbury headline set.

Stole the show :lmao

Been some snide comments on here about him to be honest.

Aye and fuck those “Lukaku” comments too. He looks nothing like him other than they’re both black and tall. Stormzy called out a newspaper (last year I think) for mixing them up.

The guy is a huge talent. I don’t like all his stuff, I do like some of it, but you don’t need to be a fan to appreciate his talent and the fact he’s sound. He’s using his fame for good.

We aren't walking through the storm now - we are the storm.

He’ll never be “real music” or “worthy of headlining Glastonbury” to some people, for some reason. Even though he speaks for his community, fights to keep their issues in the public eye and consistently calls out politicians. You’d have thought that’d resonate with people, but hey, he’s black. Not like Beyoncé who’s black, cos you can sexualise her - nah, he’s just a big black man and no one can understand a word he’s saying.

Hope everyone enjoyed Tame Impala anyway.

Have a few things set to record Johnny Marr, The Killers and The Cure.

Might watch some other stuff later on, hopefully avoiding the annoying presenters , that Mel woman and Edith Bowman - they don't half talk some crap.

As a 52 year old punk/metal fan I have to say that Stormzy's set was utterly thrilling. I saw The Prodigy in 1995 at Glasto and tonight's set had the same epoch making feel.

Some decent looking stuff at West holts.

Just reading about the water queues. I know they’ve put on extra water stations but when the forecast became clearer they should’ve doubled or tripled the number of refill stations. This is exactly the type of situation their £10 mill emergency fund is for.

an event historically reserved for white privileged Tory youth..
That's a bit off the mark isn't it. It was only the previous festival when Corbyn was part of the programme, with a massive positive audience response to him, no booing at all, just his name sung for ages before he could speak. It is not a tory thing, unless you count the attenders there as tourists, but I am sure they are still the minority. As for the white comment, if you put on a black music festival in the Uk, you still get majority white audiences. I speak as a former promoter of black music events and employee of a black arts centre. Womad tried very hard in the early days to target black audiences for their very positive mix of African and West Indian content, and they had a very low response as well.

Correct. Anyone who was there in the 90s would never describe Glastonbury as “Tory”.

“Historically” as he puts it, it was the very opposite. And for all its gentrification, or however you want to term it, I’d imagine that underlying spirit endures.

Their best stuff might have come out 10 years ago, but they'll put on a good show, and that's what it's about really. I'm not sure there are that many better options around, to be honest. Who is there that is big enough with enough well-known songs to justify a Saturday headlining slot, who hasn't already played there in the last 10 years?
Kylie. No idea why she's only playing an afternoon slot tomorrow.

And I speak as a product of an area of very similar demographic and economic (or lack of) prosperity/opportunity to the Croydon estate Stormzy grew up in. Not a single person I knew growing up went to Glastonbury. Spending a weekend in Somerset watching Bob Dylan is not something working class (in particular multicultural) youth were typically attracted to, or capable of in my experience. Glastonbury as I know it is a rite of passage for the white middle class, in particular yuppies or students who wish to be liberal and edgy for a weekend. No doubt it has become more accessible and diverse over the years (Stormzy headlining is symbolic of this) - and clearly not all are conservatives, but the point stands that Glastonbury traditionally has over the years attracted a very particular class and culture - to which Stormzy does not belong. That was the beauty of yesterday for me. I suppose organisers should be congratulated for that.

She has her limitations and it shows.

Her vocals live are very weak and I suspect reinforced with a prerecorded backing tape, and without those backing singers carrying her and also the distraction of the gang of dancers it would be dreadfull. Also too many of the songs sound like either throw away early Prince stuff (not that that's a bad thing) or strange remixes of her brother's Remember the time.

But that drummer in her backing band, he's got the chops, no doubt about it. He's so tight.

Janet Jackson has never had a strong range of songs really. To be fair I think her mic was faulty early on which continued right up to her cracker All For You, which was unfortunately very weak. But she missed a trick not singing her best ever from 1997 "Together Again". A fuckining belter of a song.

She could have worked the audience much, much more considering her status. But I thought she did well for an ageing artist clearly hiding the weight and getting in to the moves.

Not as good as I expected.

Pretty much mate yeah especially the stuff about her work.

Her introduction was talking about how she'd broken away from the family influence to become her own innovative artist.  How she was a forerunner of the r&b era yet all the video clips were basically a female version of Michael.

His beats, his rhythms, his dance moves, his clothes, his image.

She may as well not been on the stage for what she contributed.  The odd "ooh" and "come on" and got paid hundreds of thousands for it probably.
