Yes, there's plenty of highly strung women (and men) out there who would freak out exactly like that under the circumstances. I mean, her missing son is talking to her through festive electrical goods, there's a headless monster living in the walls and she's supposed to roll her eyes and say "deary me" or what? Fuck that. There's people on this forum who totally lose their shit when we're only winning by one goal at half time against the league Champions, why do the same people expect Winona to be so chill?

I didn't mind that she lost her shit. If anything I expected most mothers to lose their shit in such situations. It's their child ffs. Yet somehow it seemed to me it was OTT even for such reaction. Don't know, I may change my mind when I watch it for the second time in the future. Anyway it didn't ruin the experience for me. When I posted about the whole show it was more intended as a side note.

PS: It should have been a 2 goal lead last Saturday after the first half.  ;D

She was absolutely fine. On top of what Nessy said, she also had mental issues in the past. Her reaction and Winona's reaction were spot on. Her not having kids have nothing to do with it for me. Because she didn't just lose her son, he's in the wall. That would drive anyone batty.

Wasn't really on my radar as I'm not much of a fan of sci-fi or scary movies but the hype has been too big to ignore any longer. My wife and I started watching this week and we're through episode five so far. Been thoroughly enjoyable. It's not quite at that level of shows where it just sticks in my brain and I can't stop thinking about it (Breaking Bad, True Detective season 1), but it's been a great watch so far. The kid actors are fantastic and I love that Hopper's role is growing.

Don't understand the Winona criticisms myself.

For me it was the way her character transformed from hair all over the place, drab clothes, desperate, deranged hectic mother to leather clad baddass in the last 2 or 3 episodes

It was a gift from the club, I think. And she's a kid, so that's ok. (Although no.7 would have made it all make sense.)

A bit late to the party but finally came around to watch it this week, brilliant show loved every episode of it.

Thought the acting performances of Ryder, the Girl who plays Eleven and the boy who plays Mike were brilliant.

Great to find out that my favorite character is a Liverpool fan  8)

Finished this the other day, really enjoyed it.  The kids are all amazing and I agree with the people saying Winona was overdoing it a bit.  But 90s Winona is literally the hottest woman in history so she gets a pass.

Favourite character was definitely Hopper, his approach of just knocking people out to get what he wanted was great.

Understandable that you gorged through it, it's one of those shows that you can just want to watch for hours and hours, even when you do finish it your upset that there are no more episodes to watch.

Ryder's acting aside, all the other acting performances were outstanding with Hopper, Eleven and Mike being the standouts. Thought Ryder was over the top with the my son's missing stuff, if she could of been slightly toned down I would of considered it one of the best shows I have ever seen because I loved all the characters in the show.

I get the stuff about Winona Ryder being over the top but then, she did play a mother who has just lost her son (or at least, it seems like that). I think there's many a mother in real life who would be exactly like that if the same thing happened to them.

Regardless, it didn't really affect the quality of the show, there's so much to like about it, that it's a minor issue, if it is one at all.

It's not an issue at all. They establish that she has mental issues. Then her son disappears. Then he and monsters are in her walls. And she deals with a fake corpse, and her disappeared son communicating through lights. It's a maddening situation brought on through circumstance.

Going to do the same soon, it's mostly down to the kids in the show, normally when I see kid actors in a show or movie they bring the quality down.

In this show the kids elevate the quality and are a big part of the show's greatness.

Too soon for me but a future re-watch is definite.

Off topic but seeing my saved series and movie stacked next to each other according to genre, with their covers and their themes playing when you select them, the plots of each episode and movie is really nice with Plex. I get nerdy!

Elfen Lied ;)

Well played sir, you have good taste :D

Now, to be on topic, my take on loose ends that will have an impact on season 2:
Spoiler
1. Obviously the last scene with Will still being trapped sort of beteween the two worlds, I have a feeling his importance in the second season is going to be like Eleven's in the first season, him being the main character.
2. Eleven has killed the beast but the gate is still open, and at one point in the last episode, in the "upside down" Hopper spotted as what seemed to me some sort of a hatched egg, still more horrors to come if you ask me.
3.Hopper places the waffles that Eleven liked in that box, and I doubt that is wishful thinking on his part.
