The day the donkey derby came to town,
people came to watch from all around.
Alas we did not see who won the race,
because the supergroup 'the who' swooped down from the moon and squirted tartar lemon in our face.

Out of context? Nothing. In the context of a OTT send-up of cashmere-sweater-wearing folk singers? Everything.

I tell ye what, I haven't laughed at a comedy sketch so much in years as that Coxy and Evans helicopter landing pad sketch. Tears running down my face the full works. Especially when Bob trys to emulate Peter Powells landing trajectory and gets his hair caught in the mechanism.

Every time this thread gets bumped I have to go to YouTube to watch the Councillors Cox and Evans sketch with the Helicopter landing pad.

The whole sketch is funny but the last bit with Bob is fucking hilarious.

Nearly 7 years on I now know how to imbed YouTube vids so here it is and enjoy :)

Crikey, threads this old get bumped and you see people talking about finding bargain DVDs on the first page.

I was a bit too young to see their start on TV but we had a tape of Smell and watched it loads. Loved all the stuff they did after too... I remember a series on Youtube sponsored by Fosters that saw them ghost hunting. Plus Catterick, I remember a few of them trying to have a conversation with screwed up faces from eating a load of gooseberries.

I think I'll have to hunt some of this stuff down. Anything on the streaming services?
"The nicest thing about quotes is that they give us a nodding acquaintance with the originator which is often socially impressive."

~ Kenneth Williams, with whom I'm noddingly acquainted. Socially impressed?
