Yeah I’ll echo the above - been maybe 5 times now and never once come out feeling short changed (and I’ve a big appetite). 100% worth the money.

Really must give that place a try.

Swerved it up till now after hearing a couple of reports that the place was too crowded during the restrictions, and then there were the reports on how they treat their staff [not the Liverpool one, I know].

Recommendations for something relatively cheap and unfussy but still decent in the centre that will suit 12 blokes out drinking? Thinking burgers/pizzas type thing.

Had 4 plates and two drinks in the butterfly and grasshopper , they had run out of prawns and tuna so opted for the lamb shawarma and that didn’t touch the side it was lovely , second plate was the fish finger twisters with a dip again really nice pure white fish and a crispy batter .

The third was a buffalo chicken with blue cheese and celery and walnut salad which I found to be only okay as the skin on the chicken I’d  have expected crispy but was quite soggy so didn’t really enjoy it and the final one chosen by the wife was cauliflower couscous with mint lime and pomegranate, this was far too citrusy for me and the lime overpowered everything else .

Would have liked to have tried the king prawns and will certainly go back , the wife asked for a glass of white wine and the girl serving made a recommendation , I jokingly said your not selling me a £20 glass of wine are you and she said no laughing , the bill came and it was £10.30 which is a bit extortionate I think

Went there last night, had five small plates: Plum flatbread, Lamb chops, Fish twirls, Cauliflower Couscous and chilli prawns. All were really tasty and enough for the two of us. Had the cheese plate to finish but this wasn't great so I'd avoid.

A couple of observations:

The interior stying is fantastic, very laid back and bohemian. Staff were amazingly attentive and knowledgeable.

Have small plates rather than the main plates. The table next to us had the main plates and they had food envy about the portion size and the look of our small plates.

This place was dead, very quiet. It was Saturday night and the restaurant was half empty. Eat here or you'll lose it and it's worth supporting.

Very tasty food, very affordable and excellent service.

Free State Kitchen also good, although with those numbers you might want to ring ahead for seats

Yeah I'd thought of FSK ahead of time and they couldn't seat that many at that notice. Ended up going Rudy's as Craig suggested and it was pretty good to be fair.

100% agree. Been 3 times myself and planning to go a 4th with the current menu. Good value for money and never left unsatisfied with what I got, in fact some of the stuff I had was very very impressive and clever cooking.

I`ve liked places like Mowgli, Fazenda, Gusto and San Carlo to name some.

I was going to add Trattoria but if I’m honest the last two times we went (once in July and once in August) it wasn’t great.

However we have had plenty of great meals there otherwise.

I'm not sure these are the best as I've not done many of the popular ones, on this thread, but they have all been amazing when I've visited.

Bacchus Greek Taverna
Sanskruti
Betterfly and Grasshopper
Mowgii
Trat 51

Apparently Duke Street Market is fantastic too but not been - next time....

Duke st market looks really good. Been to Pilgrim which is upstairs there (that was stunning btw) and earmarked a return visit for the market bit downstairs as it all looked quality

Second this.

And to add to Craig's list above, every time I've been to Etsu it's been cracking.

Got to disagree with San Carlo's, think it's decent but massively overpriced for what it is. Mowgli is better if you go and treat all the starters as tapas dishes - the Himalayan Cheese Toast and Chip Butty are amazing - as the curry's on the main menu are a bit underwhelming I find.

Agree with the tip about Mowglii, although I personally think Sanskruti is miles better anyway.

I never did get round to doing Etsu but heard great things about it, and also agree with regards to San Carlo.

Best Italian in the city at the moment? Usually go to Ginos for Italian as it’s always been decent and fairly consistent but want to try somewhere else. I’ve heard trattoria 51 is decent.

Amalia has gone down hill a bit. Went the other week and the pizza's were burnt on the bottom.

Trattoria 51 is nice. They've also opened up a takeout pasta kinda one as well round the corner from Queens square.

Lovely evening at Spire tonight.

First visit since before lockdown, and the food is better than ever. Truly outstanding for a neighbourhood restaurant.

The king prawn and scallop starter is a thing of beauty, and the various mains (lamb, chicken, halibut) were all outstanding.

Great desserts too.

4 x 3 courses, 2 very nice bottles of wine, a pre dinner round of drinks and dessert wines and coffees all round afterwards for about £60 a head.

The staff are lovely as well.

Boss place.

Salthouse tapas last night was brilliant. Been a few times before for the lunchtime special but this was the first time ordering off the main menu and it was top drawer. Particularly the octopus, duck leg, lamb shoulder & black pudding, and the scallops were to die for

Anyone been to cowshed?
Me and my partner have been, I enjoyed it, she was not too fussed, thinking it okay. It's a decent Steakhouse, they cooked mine spot on, I had the fillet and a couple of sides, she had the ribeye and we weren't too impressed. Ribeye is always meant to have a little fat and some marbling, it's part of the flavour, but it came with a fairly thick ridge of gristle through it and was overcooked. We never usually complain but my partner sent it back and had a rump instead, which she said was quite nice, if a bit overcooked still (asked for medium rare). To their credit, the waitress who came and took the ribeye away fully agreed (maybe humouring us) and seemed sincere with the apologies. They were good on that count.

The fries were nice and the béarnaise was good, the house red was very drinkable as well. Try the Croquette Bites on the nibbles section too, really moreish. Worth a go if you really like your steak, if you're not massively bothered about steak, it's a very limited menu (I think they only have varieties of steak and one veggie option) by design, definitely better than a Miller and Carter type place. We paid just shy of £60 for a steak each, one side, one sauce, a 'nibble' option and a couple of glasses of wine.

A good 7/10 for me that would get an 8 or higher if they hadn't messed up my Girlfriend's orders.

If you like steak it's perfect. I never usually order steak out but my girlfriend loves it so we went a couple of years ago. The steak was superb.

Went to Sanskruti last night after seeing it recommended in this thread. Was very tasty, had a paneer curry and the dhal makhani. Just the 2 mains, often at curry houses we get the veggie dishes as sides so we can get a wider array but cant do it there. So will be going back again to make our way through the menu.

Any recommendations for a Mexican restaurant? Tried La Parrilla on Bold street a while ago but wasn't impressed with it other than the ridiculous portion size.
