Arse have the option to match any bid anyone else makes. Basically stops anyone bar arsenal getting him cheap.

 ;D

Any other team has the option also! Why would they make a deal with one of the tightest big clubs around? They would want an auction to get most money, what's in it for them? Only plausable reason is if Wenger been bumhole tickling.

Would you rather Young or Cole?

You think Young is the best winger we're going after this summer?

Cole actually still has a pretty good reputation around the league and there are managers out there who think he needs a run of games and managed properly to get the best out of him. The opportunity to take a guy who went to the world cup and still not hit 30 for £4mn is going to be attractive to many manager. Villa have Albrighton and Downing who can play wide with Bent and Agbonlahor up top...Cole would compete for one of the wide positions or behind Bent. Not many players you can get for £4mn these days...

He probably will improve with a run of games; no doubt, when he came, the intention was to play him regularly, but thanks to a bad piece of refereeing right at the start, some injuries, our gradual elimination from all but the league, that chance evaporated. It's a shame. He's a better player than he showed here. In the circumstances we were in, every single player had to hit the ground running and those that didn't will now be moved on. Hope we keep Maxi, though. Think he's a useful squad player and seems like an important piece of squad glue as well, judging from his friendships with Lucas, Suarez etc.

Best we are going after?  No. One of the best we can actually hope for considering we could have no european football? Probably

Because winning the league, making the CL and being a regular in the NT is such a waste?

Just seen on the formation thread that Dalglish wants Kjaer. Original source was this Danish newspaper: Jyllands Posten. Anyone know if it's reliable?

Sounds like a steaming, festering pile of shit to me  :P kjaer in my opinion, is rubbish. Granted, he had a few decent games for Palermo but he's been absolute crap for Wolfsburg since he signed for them. I think it would be a backward step.

I'd rather we go for Cahill than Kjaer, anyway if we can't get Cahill then Kjaer is a good option and hopefully the presence of Agger helps him settle down if he joins.

I'd prefer Young over Cole any day.

Just I'm not sure if Young would be our best option, there are better wingers out there. Although he is versatile and always offers 10+ assists every season aswell as getting a couple of goals.

Getting rid of Joe Cole is a good deal, no matter who we bring in. We should keep Maxi, apparently he's created 30 odd chances this season, the most in the league that havent been converted.

My point is only that just because a player underperforms at one club, and that they want to offload them, doesn't mean that he wouldn't be a good player here or somewhere else. I think Cahill is a better player than Kjaer but having watched some of his games at both Wolfsburg and Palermo, I don't think he's a bad option. World class? No. But an improvement certainly.

My point simply is that for a player who is born in Germany, being in the (current) dominant team there, European football granted and more or less certain to be in the NT is all he wants?

All this talk of transfers made me think, realistically how many players will be leaving in the summer, some people have said 7 or 8, but in my opinion, including the guys currently on loan, it will be about 21, and these are the unlucky 21. Question is, if these 21 do go, will this be the biggest squad cull in our recent history?

    * 1. Jones
    * 3. Konchesky
    * 10. J Cole
    * 14. Jovanovic
    * 16. Kyrgiakos
    * 17. Maxi
    * 24. Ngog
    * 28. Poulsen
    * 32. Darby
    * 36. Irwin
    * 37. Skrtel
    * 39. Eccleston
    * 46. Amoo
    * 48. Bruna
    * - Aquilani
    * - Chamberlain
    * - Degen
    * - El Zhar
    * - Insua
    * - Mavinga (possibly)
    * - Saric (possibly)

Interestin, but still a very silly way to think about it.
By your logic, there is a chance that Paul Konchesky has a chance of coming good if he moved to Notts Forest... Right?
Wrong...
I see the point you're trying to make but i wouldn't expect us to take a gamble of such proportions with our current predicament.
I agree that we must go after upcoming/emerging talent, but that certainly wouldn't include 'talent' that is underperforming

Not coming good but being a good fit yes. Why would it not include buying talent that is underperforming? If we know there is talent there that could be used and molded properly and its at the right price, then why not go for it?

Rumours of LFC offering Cole +8mn to Villa for Young...sure Villa would up the cash element of that but otherwise wouldn't be a bad move for all.

Being reported we're in line to sign Seb Larsson. Think he'd make a brilliant squad player. Perfect back up player who can whip in some decent crosses, and even bang in a couple goals. More quality we have the better, only going to enhance our chances of winning some major Honours next season.

Think it'd be very good business to get this man in the set up.
