Done Lost, 24, Wire, sopranos,Brotherhood etc.

Up to date with Dexter, Entourage, Rescue me.

Where the hell is the next really great show I can get in to, or is there an old box set I should get in to?

Tried Mad men, boring, Oz bit odd and The west wing too high brow for the Mrs.

If you haven't watched it already, I suggest you get to watching Breaking Bad. Forget people saying that The Wire is the best thing in the history of TV. Breaking Bad tops it by a long shot. It's 100 times more original, and far less cliché'd. Of course, this is all my opinion.

The Unit was actually quite popular with the womenfolk, because they had a wives subplot every week. Man up and give it a go.

Breaking Bad is really good, but not the best thing ever. It's quite slow to begin with, requires patience for the first season. Like Mad Men, really.

I came in to suggest this but it is in no way better than the Wire.

The Wire is just a very good good guys Vs bad guys cops/robbers/drug dealers drama that's been done - albeit in different styles - too many times throughout the years to count. I thought it was good, but I still believe it's extremely overrated. If you think The Wire is "just" that then a whole galaxy of stuff sailed over your head and you basically penetrated just the top layer.

It's alright for someone not to call The Wire the best TV show of all time! At least he gave his reasons.

The only two cop shows I've seen are The Shield and The Wire, so I wasn't going into them jaded from 80s and 90s cop shows. It's going to be a while before I'll want to watch anything in that genre again. I do think The Wire was more than just 'cops and robbers' though, it told the story of the entire city but it's main focus was police and drug dealers.

OP - Mad Men and Breaking Bad are the best things on TV right now by a mile. You should give Mad Men another shot, how far into it did you get? I can see how you could find the first few episodes boring. There's no chance you'll find Breaking Bad boring, it's probably the most exciting show I've seen.

I didn't quibble with that (although I personally believe it probably is the best TV show). I quibbled with portraying it as simply a good example of a cops and robbers show. While it is that at its heart, quite plainly there is a large amount more to it than that.

I've actually been avoiding trailers, because trailers ruin everything. I doubt it'll be as convoluted as Lost though.

Can't believe I forgot to mention Sons of Anarchy and Justified. Good shout you lot.
