There are a few saying that he was poor against Barca, or at least (while they weren't his fault) he could have done more for the first two goals.
Not many, if any other centre halves, would have done too much differently to what big Virgil did for those goals, but I think it's more the stupendously high standards that he has set that make us think he can do more.
Apart from the goal, I don't think he was at his best tonight either. He was still excellent compared to the other 3 centre halves on the field, but once again, his standards are just so high.
He hasn't missed an EPL game all season (not sure about UCL), so I'm wondering if there is just a tad of fatigue setting in. He will play the final two games, that's a nailed on certainty, but he then has to keep training and play in the Europe Nations league games in the second week of June. He will only get a short break and back into pre season again. I know they are paid whopping sums of money, but are we asking too much of the modern players physically? As good a physical specimen as Virgil seems to be, surely there is a point where the body just needs a rest.
Biggest week for 20 years this next week is. I just pray that Virgil (and the rest of the lads) can rise to the occasion.
