Yeah. If he is to retire I'd expect it to be announced at the end of the season or it coming out suddenly like this. Whether it is true or not I'll expect we will find out soon as the uncertainty will affect the club's shares.

With the stories about Moyes becoming number 2 at United, it isn't a great time for us right now. Hardly anyone I know wants him - and for good reason.

I know most fans want Mourinho, but I don't think the Glazers would touch someone so controversial and selfish, do you?

Obviously Klopp is ideal, but I doubt he would abandon Dortmund until a few more trophies are won.

Who does that leave? Ancelotti? Heykens?
Let us never forget Rafael Benitez and what he did for us. A fighter full of guts and passion. A gentleman full of class and dignity. A football manager full of intelligence and pure genius. A Legend.

They'd surely want to let there be a last home game to let the fans pay tribute, say goodbye etc?

Yeah. I mean if the news is true he'll still manage the last two games so though the news is sudden, the retirement isn't exactly sudden. Still, there's just over a week to go till the end of the season so it would be pretty short notice.

No way would he miss the Swansea game where the trophy presentation will be.

Part of me is kind of shocked at this, he's been their manager for most of my life, and all of a sudden it looks like he's retiring. I've certainly not been easy on him much, and I will be happy to see the back of him, but even though his retirement is the end of a era in English football. Yes, he gave our rivals so many trophies and titles and they'll probably keep the record for most titles for as long as we did, but in the end, he is a great manager. It's why we hate him so damn much.

Mourinho would be very expensive to get (would cost €20M to get him from Real for a start), and quite a few inside Old Trafford don't want him - most notably Bobby Charlton. Can't see that happening.

As for the other candidates I don't know. Heynckes I can't see happening due to age and he might be retiring anyway. Ancelotti... will probably be going to Real. Klopp probably won't leave as I can see him wanting to stay a bit longer at Dortmund as well.

Just made my first trip to Red Cafe, felt wrong.

Basically Moyes is not worthy and Mourinho is nailed on, but only if Klopp doesn't want it.

I might be wrong, but that has to be the definition of a poisoned chalice...
It is a poisoned chalice. Look at Rafa, he went to Inter after they had just won the treble, there was no way he was going to do well even if that was only one of the reasons he didn't. This is like that x100.
Then in the midddle out pops a smiling glen johnson pulling up his jersey to reveal a t-shirt of suarez with a text saying. "OUR SUAREZ IS A FRIEND TO ALL COLOURS!"

I was just wondering though - United fans are quick to say no to Moyes but they need to realise there's not a lot of options out there. And it will be a minor miracle if they don't drop.

Hope Jose signs for Chelsea soon then. Him settling down at United for his long term future is a scary thought.

Mourinho won't settle down long term anywhere. He's all about himself. Instant success, doesn't matter what he leaves behind. Hes not one for building for the future.

Knock out from the start made it harder
First up the champions of Latvia, then the champions of Iceland, next up the champions of Austria in the quarter final.....

Save for the odd side in the Champions League you are playing quality opposition from the best leagues in Europe as soon as you hit the knockout rounds and even before that the group could be the end of you, see United and Dortmund last year and Chelsea City this year.

Fair point, but I think an external appointment is a huge risk.

I begrudgingly thought those rumours of Moyes going there as assistant for a year was a great idea.

If Ferguson does retire, which he wont imv, its either Mourinho, Klopp or a wild stab at Ancelotti taking over. There is no way they will gamble on Moyes imv.

Obviously Klopp is ideal, but I doubt he would abandon Dortmund until a few more trophies are won.

Didnt we say this about AVB before he decided to jump ship to Chelsea?

Slightly different but I agree, I doubt they'll just drop. Too much money and good players.

Alas, it'll probably be a 'retiring in two years' or something.

Do you remember what happened when Sir Matt retired?
