Bought an Oculus Go a few days ago. Very impressed for the price and as a VR demo it's been great. Watching films is really like looking at a giant screen. The resolution isn't there yet, but in terms of immersion won't be long before VR beats the cinema. Watching The Incredibles 2 in 3D was a new experience, literally breathtaking.

Is there a setting so that you're sat in an actual cinema theatre on the Go?

The Go is more of a media player device than a true VR one. Oculus Quest releases in a few months. Untethered, mobile, full 6doF, inside out tracking, and a virtually unlimited room scale as well as touch controllers that are fully tracked also. Could be a game changer for VR because it eliminates a lot of the niggles with it in one go.

Been playing Firewall Zero hour on the psvr, you will need the aim gun!!  but what an experience, and no kids jumping around no scoping, makes for a very atmospheric experience
and very intense at times too, would highly recommend it.

My Oculus Quest arrives tomorrow.

Finally a headset that ticks many boxes for me.

- Inside-out tracking
- Native roomscale wireless play using the onboard computer.
- Wired PC play using the new Oculus Link BETA
- Wireless PC play using VD on 5GHz

Did you get it? What's your impressions of it so far? The only thing that concerns me about it is the FOV, but the ability to connect it to a PC and then just take it on the go is tempting me. I was looking to upgrade my PC, and with Alyx and a few other big games around the corner, it's the right time for it.

Yes it arrived Friday and it's been a fantastic purchase. My previous VR experience was with the PSVR which I really enjoyed, but the tracking and wires really bothered me.

The freedom of being truly wireless is something else entirely, we bought Super Hot and spent most of the weekend on it (Chromecasted to the TV). For me it was a game changing experience. Being a mobile chipset there's a graphical hit for sure but it's not really about that and the games do look really good considering. It's a much more social experience too which is great, this is going to be the main attraction over the various Christmas commitments!

The FOV is fine for me, I actually felt it was better than the PSVR but this link suggests otherwise: https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/9hk02b/angular_resolution_and_fov_of_various_vr_headsets/, either way it wasn't an issue. Controller tracking is superb and should be no different to the Oculus Rift S.

Was able to use the Oculus Link BETA with a basic Amazon cable and it works great. I can't compare it to the Rift S but from what I've read most people say the quality is the same as the original Oculus, I.e. it's a bit softer than the Rift S. Someone's done a comparison of the Oculus Link and Virtual Desktop here, note it's captured on the Quest itself so the FPS is capped and there's some compression on the video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8MKq995LG8

I haven't used Virtual Desktop yet (this enables Wireless VR over 5GHz) but you can see there's headroom for improvement. Either way I'm very happy with the Link so far. John Carmack thinks he'll be able to increase the fidelity a lot more too: https://i.imgur.com/nHrYuES.png. It's worth noting the resolution is actually higher than the Rift S and the OLED display is great for those deep blacks.

As for the negatives. The battery could do with being larger I guess (2.5 hours) but the main issue I have with the headset is the comfort. Because of the strap design and front weight it needs to be strapped on quite hard and can end up making your cheeks or forehead hurt. Depends on your head shape somewhat but the PSVR halo design is much better. You can kill two birds with one stone for this though by getting this: https://www.studioformcreative.com/product-page/quest-pro-enthusiast-kit

The top band will shift weight distribution to the top of your head and you can stick a 10,000 MAh battery in the back counter weight slot to really relieve the pressure. I got this, it's 242g which is the sweet spot and will last 7 hours:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07FP17P3Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

That's about it for now, I'd factor in the possibility of spending £40 to improve comfort and battery but for me it's worth it.

So the link cable has no real discernable visual degradation or artifacting? And the fact you can stream directly to the TV like the PSVR sounds like a welcome bonus too. Wasn't aware of that.

There is visual degradation, the image is being encoded to a 150mbps stream and passed to the headset. Impossible to do it without losing quality to some degree.

Here's a good video where a video is taken through the lense itself. Might not be noticable depending on how much you care or look for it, the Rift S will be sharper as it's native but the contrast and colours seem better using the Quest.
