Just recieved a PM of Terry saying that this thread should be dedicated to Shanklyboy.

He passed way today and he will be surely missed. He was a quality poster on this forum and escpecially in this thread. For those like myself who never met the man knew he was a proper auld arse and a gentlemen with a heart of gold.

His knowledge, humour and humility touched us all.

Shine on fella.

You're correct sir. I was probably on the same train as you. what a fucker that was.
MODS!: we need an auld fellas thread. Lovely to reminisce

Just seen this post on The Doin' The Libpool Bootwalk Thread.

Yes agree with you.....probably pretty boring before '86 and that. I am 58 now but I can remember going the match in decent trabs and a tasty winter coat to keep warm. No daft hats and all that but a decent block of charash to keep ya focussed on the beautiful game.

Nope .

My first home was 77 then started to go the homes with me mates in 83 I think. Me away days with me mates was about 86 onwards and like I say we had a scream and a few of my stories are in the Tales from The Travelling Kop Book.

I guess arl arse in my eyes is people like me arl fella ( who actually hitched to Cologne for a pre season friendly in 65 I think and got in the the echo . Dad I fuckin love you fella ) from Anny Roaders and anything in between.

Sorry Withnail you not so arl twat!     :wave

Didn't seem boring in 74 being chased by about 400 mancs waiting in the city centre after the Leicester semi, nearly coming unstuck in Derby, Stoke or Nottingham, or watching some mad scouser chasing about 40 city fans after one of them smacked him and he went berserk. Hilarious. Boring? No, but it is now.

I for one would love to read some of the stories and misadventures you guys had all those years ago.  Always love reading posts talking about the "days".

Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

First game was against Southampton the year we came up from Div. 2.

Does anyone else remember being able to change ends at half-time?

I may be losing it, but I'm sure there were some grounds where they'd let fans swap ends at half-time, so you were always in the end Liverpool were playing towards.

I remember the changing ends when in the second division.
Even in the first division we changed ends and remember being in both ends of Old Trafford on the same day.

Magical moments
second div shampionship Southampton home that was mad
Cologne and the snow and the footy match on the pitch and snowballs at BBC
Ajax and the mysterious fire in the kop (Piss steam) and sitting on the side of the kemlyn road 2 inches from the pitch after being dragged out from the kop with thousands of others.
Blackburn beginning of the first season back singing I wanna hold your hand in a guards van on the train with I swear 1000 others. Trains ran from Exchange an no one seemed to drive.
INTER MILAN HOME
INTER MILAN AWAY (My folks went and were distraught)
Spurs 2-7 and then 5-2 over the Easter weekend when we used to play Good Friday Saturday and Bank Holiday Monday
Spurs when some spivs in suits grabbed the ball off a couple of kids who were having a kick around in the goalmouth at 1 o clock. The kids grabbed the ball back and dived back into the Scouse lads. Stupid div chased him in there and was kicked shite out of. Had to be rescued by the police but no arrests.

Ah the good ol days and if the nurse would help I'd remember a lot more

funnily enough don't ever remember away supporters coming down to the kop

I'm sure I remember a group of Notts Forest fans standing at the back of the Kop for one game - in the late 60's? They chanted for their team and I don't think they got beaten up - but I may be wrong.

Yea - some bastard pissed down my leg on the Kop (Arsenal - late 60's early 70's?). It's surprising but you didn't feel it at the time but that walk down Arkles Lane / Utting Avenue after the match was a very damp one.

Also got accused of pissing down someone's leg at City - it definately wasn't me but I nearly shit myself when the bloke turned round and pointed the finger!! :o

My first game was Liverpool V Arsenal 1950 lost 1-3

In Arsenals team that day were Jack Kelsey (Goaly) Dennis and Lesley Compton, Joe Mercer and Jimmy Logie, They are the Arsenal players I remember.

In the those days all the teams had great players, they all earned the same money.

remember Spurs mid-week on the Kop when to Spurs Clockwork Orange look-alikes showed up, no idea if they got a kicking. Funniest moment was the Coventry midweek game. So foggy you couldn't see the Anny Road from the Kop. We scored first half kicking into the Anny but noone knew who scored. Kop started chanting "Who scored the goal.....e aye addio who scored the goal". Anny road came back with "Tony Hateley", Kop replied with a re-work of the Scaffolds hit "Thank you very much for the information", Funny as at the time. Worst moment, can't remember the oppostion but I screamed "c*nt" at the ref for some bad decision only to see me 2 falsies (bike crash) shoot out me gob and loop into the air and disappear in the crowd. The amazing thing was I pushed everyone outta the way and found em! Took #em home and put em in Dettol for a week before I put em back in me gob.
Got legged at Boro one year and had to dive in some fuckin canal and swim to the other side to get away from a bunch a Boro scallys. Bricks commin through the windows of the special on the way home from the Toon.

"Thank you very much for the Anfield Iron."

And Tommy putting Joe Jordan 4 rows back into the crowd at Anfield.

A wag in the Kop said it was a pity "Tommy didn't get him proper"!

Winning at Old Trafford then hoping we got out of town alive.

Happy memories.

Suddenly I turned around and she was standin' there
With silver bracelets on her wrists and flowers in her hair
She walked up to me so gracefully and took my crown of thorns
"Come in", She said, "I'll give you shelter from the storm."

I might be in!

On a safety note what were the steps like in the upper ends at Wembley, fucking hell they must have been 2 foot high and not quite wide enough for 2 people, hence the huge surges you used to see. Also the amount of piss that used to wash down the stairways at the back.

I always used to laugh when commentators used to say how friendly the FA/League Cup Finals were, there was murder all down Wembley High Street for most on the way back to Wembley Central. Spurs, West Ham and Utd to name a few in the early 80's/

Talking of the specials does anyone remember Jaffa - young black lad, in the days when it was rare to see a black face on the Kop, with a big orange mop of hair? Can't remember the exact game - might have been Forest away? - but can still hear a pile of fellers chanting "Jaffa is our leader" on the train on the way home.

Remember the 74 Semi so well. Got split from the main body of Liverpool supporters after the match and about 8 of us had to make our way from the theatre of screams to victoria station.
Mancs appeared from every nook and cranny. We stuck together and ran from old trafford like th fuckin clappers all the way to victoria station.
