What a knob he is, getting away with elbowing Salah in the first half. Loved it when Salah twisted him inside out for the third ;D And yeah, Konate is great.

Makes a massive difference to us. The drop off when Gomez comes in is huge and Matip isn't at the races this season for whatever reason.

The season is a lot different if he'd stayed fit.

I really think this is true - he's so quick and covers so much ground.. we'd have still had midfield problems but we'd have looked a lot more compact in a lot of games, trent wouldve got higher more often etc etc
Got to keep him fit now and more generally keep him on the pitch over the seasons to come because that's been his only issue as a player so far

I mean I know he is young and has room to improve but i tell you what, he's already in the best in the world conversation, right?

He does have a history of making a couple of brain farts per game, but this game was pretty much flawless.
His long legs make him look slower than he is, like VVD.

Just stay fit please. Thats key to getting a good connection with VVD.

He definitely is on ability imo but you've got to stay fit and do it consistently to be in that conversation - he's only managed 500 minutes or so in the league for us this season and only 1000 last season, if he can get over his injury proneness he's a world beater

Yeah,  that's totally fair.  I mean you can probably add that he was arguably the best CB at the world cup too this year.

Let's hope he can shake off the injuries because we look a different beast with him out there.

Stay fit.

If he does, we are comfortably getting top 4.

Last season wasn't due to fitness though was it? Matip was rightly our first choice partner for Van Dijk for most of the season.

In fact, transfermarket suggests he wasn't injured at all last season, which doesn't sound right either but that might be my memory.

Yeah he was fit all last season, was just preferred in the cups to the league (played about 2,500 minutes across all competitions, and only missed 2 match day squads out of 63 games available). Suppose the question is whether he’d have stayed fit had we played him a lot more, but we don’t know that. The slight worry is he had a whole raft of injuries before he came here and last season was actually a bit of an anomaly in terms of him picking up no real injuries…

Let’s hope the medical and conditioning departments are still top of the list for a shake down in the summer as when fit he’s comfortably one of the best in the league and he transforms our team.

We are so much better with Konate playing. That was probably the case at the back-end of last season as well.

As others have stated, he needs to stay fit. If he does then he has the potential as a player to be someone we should be building around for the future. Van Dijk will still be 1st choice for a bit but he'll be 32 by the start of next season. His game time might need to be managed a bit in future. That might be best for Virgil and the team.

I'd have no worries about the future of our centre backs if we had a fully fit Konate to rely on in the next 4-5 years.
I think Jookie might just be the best fisherman on this thread.
