Get in, this has made my day. Honestly expected him to go to City and collect his free PL medal, but fair play to him.

People moaning about the price, or Coutinho, or him being overrated, or any other shite can climb a fucking tree.

Great signing.

This signing could well make the difference for us winning the Champions League

think about it, our attack rivals ANY in Europe, but we all know our defense has been a problem/achilles heel

A lot of reasonable people are making the very fair point that it's a lot of money for a centre back, and that it'll build expectations. However, a quick note of caution for them (and all of us), let's break the chain of stupid behaviour by a vocal bitter minority of our fanbase, and starve their bullshit of the oxygen they crave.

There will be times he makes mistakes, there will be off games. We are signing a human, after all. But let's not allow the bitter agenda driven miseries who 'support' Liverpool to get their claws into this one. We know it's a lot of money, but support him all the same - whether he starts like a Rolls Royce or a Mini Metro. It's what we're here for, to support our team. Not to conduct a financial audit and not to determine who deserves support based on an assessment of current market value. We've seen it with players like Lallana and Lovren in the past, and only one of them has managed to win over the fickle miseries. We had it with Sakho before them, and we had it with AOC in the summer.

Don't be that dickhead that jumps on his every mistake and mentions how much he cost. You would be a big part of the reason Anfield can be such a shit day out these days. Be a supporter, not a 'fan' desperate to land a dig or an I told you so as early as you can. Once he's ours, the fee doesn't matter to us at all.

This is a very sensible post by Classycara on the other VVD thread. Please will everyone read and promise to heed this advice in the weeks to come!!!

Fair play to him being committed to Klopp too.  Could have walked into a free premiership medal with City, but wanted to actually earn it the right way.

yeah, that is a cool thing actually. He made up his mind in the summer, and didn't waver, neither did Jürgen Klopp.

Fucking brilliant. If he can recover his form of the last couple of years (and I see no reason why he can't) then he's almost perfect for us. Mad money, but I'm fucking over the moon.

Think I'll wait until Jan 1 just to make sure but then I can finally get rid of this ridiculous Van Dyck self portrait profile pic I've been rocking since the summer..

Don't be daft.

It doesn't mean anything for any other player at the club - excepting Klavan/Lovren who will be seeing the bench more.

Efficient business, excellent!

75m! This likely means that Coutinho is off to Barca and his fee is funding this transfer!

A side plot: getting this done early and for a chunk over the expected price in the summer,  sets the tone for the window for other clubs chasing big targets.

More transfer inflation ahead!

What a pleasure to read that headline.
Never been in doubt as far as I'm concerned.
Don't understand how some people care about the fee, or in some cases coming up with defenders who are better. Liverpool football club have decided to buy him. That's it.
Had a dream a while back of seeing him in red and powering a header in.
We are building a great squad full of experienced old heads, top class players in their prime and really promising young lads.
Thank you Jurgen.

yeah for sure, he'll be a first name on the teamsheet player, and likely captain at some point.  At City he'd just be yet another big money signing at a souless club,

Yup, can't buy that kind of loyalty. Part of what makes Klopp such an excellent man manager who can get more out of his players. VVD will hopefully be willing to run through walls for Klopp and LFC.

What a signing! Van Dijk is an amazing player on his own, but a plus for us is that I feel like his physique and assertive defending style will complement Matip so much and get the best out of him. And Matip at his best is a damn fine CB.
Props for FSG. Transfers since the summer been dealt superbly.

Great signing, and the price merely reflects the crazy money being thrown around these days.

Let's hope he can be our Jamie or Sami - a leader, an organiser, and someone who lets our midfielders relax and play, and brings confidence to our keepers.

Happy days.

I've got OCD, but I prefer to call it CDO so it's in alphabetical order.

We aren't selling him half way through the season when he's cup tied for the Champions League anyway. He might leave in the summer, but it's not a foregone conclusion.

Bluemoon seems relatively split.

A few saying he's a very good signing, improves our team, would improve theirs, but fair play to him and us.

The rest are more like: Lack of ambition, couldn't get into their starting 11, too much money and, of course, it's clearly the Coutinho money because Liverpool can't afford that.

The reality is, it's a seller's market and the VvD is worth what you're willing to pay.

Oh, and Conte, you're welcome, fella.

I think the game at the start of December was the clincher. Virgil's thinking to himself 'I don't want to face these fuckers again', while giving Jurgen the odd glance and giving the 'call me' gesture with his fingers.

I'm not saying that our expectations of him are high, but it's going to be such a disappointment when he doesn't score a hat trick of headers from corners in his opening game :-)

The Echo is quoting the £75 million in a headline. I suspect we'll get more coming out in the next couple of days.
