No youngsters getting a game vs league two opposition is disappointing. Origi and Ibe need the games to get confidence and Rossiter needs the experience.

Ojo is very talented. He may never fulfill that talent, like 80-90% of talented players. It doesn't mean he isn't talented. For instance, I don't think he's much less talented than Ibe. But Ibe looks like he will make it as a quality Premier League player. Ojo might or might not. But that doesn't make the people who are excited about him wrong, or stupid.

U18s beat Newcastle 4-1.
"I was pleased also with Peter Crouch. We have been talking to him, before and after his nose operation, to show more confidence with his heading.

"Now it seems to have worked. Lets say that if he has a few games without scoring again, maybe we should arrange to break his nose again."

Any reason that wasn't shown live? Thought they were trying to show all the home academy games.

Probably because it was a 12.00 start and so by the time it would have finished, 1.45-2.00 pm, it would have interfered with the build up to the 3.00 match.   4-1 was a great result.  Bit worried for them without a natural striker while Gomez is injured.

Adam Phillips netted a fantastic free-kick and captain Trent Alexander-Arnold scored twice as Liverpool U18s produced a brilliant performance to beat Newcastle United 4-1 on Saturday morning.

Neil Critchley’s side were full value for their victory and substitute Kris Owens was also on the mark.

Phillips fired the U18s in front with an unstoppable free-kick and Alexander-Arnold made it 2-0 when the Newcastle goalkeeper failed to keep out the effort.

The away side pulled a goal back just before half-time, but Alexander-Arnold fired again and Owens made certain of the victory.

Reflecting on the game, Critchley told Liverpoolfc.com: “We played really well and I was delighted with the boys.

“We played some great football and we could have scored a lot more goals. We hit the bar a couple of times and missed some great chances.

“Adam scored a fantastic goal direct from a free-kick and it was nice to see Trent get a couple because he is capable of scoring goals from midfield.”

Liverpool U18s: George, Lewis, Johnston, Whelan, Masterson, Coyle (Parker 70) Alexander-Arnold, Phillips, Woodburn, Paulo Alves, Brimmer (Owens 60).

Some decent Rossiter 'vibes' coming off of Alexander Arnold.

Rated at international level, Scouse, captain, versatile, clearly rated and being pushed on by the club itself.

Exciting stuff.

Also good to see Phillips getting back in to his stride following the injuries he suffered. Hope he gets a full season and a real run at it because he's a classy player. Little like Ward-Prowse at Saints, except he can run.

A-A is so versatile as a player it's easy to see him being pushed towards the first team above others. Definitely seems to have 'it'.

Do we have any youngsters capable of deputising for Moreno at LWB against Sion?

As I'm aware Enrique isn't registered and ideally Moreno is rested for the derby.

It could possibly be Joe Gomez?

Not a wingback. We need him at LCB/RCB too.

I don't know if he will lads. I just know our options are quite sparse in that position. He's played LB, so there is a possibility he could play there against Sion. Then again Brendan might feel Moreno is fit and sharp enough to play against Sion and Everton.

If Moreno isn't playing then possibly Maguire or Alexander-Arnold could play there? Both went on the pre-season tour so must be rated by Rodgers.

Can anyone tell me where they see Alexander-Arnold's future position? He's so versatile I have no idea what it is

You're right, I get lost with the loans, but it was a 1 month youth loan according to the BBC which expires tomorrow.

Alexander-Arnold is right footed. No way does he get thrown into the first team at LWB.

If Moreno isn't playing I don't see how we can play wing backs.

Markovic is right footed and played at left wing back a few times last season. I would think someone like Ibe would be the most likely replacement for Moreno at LWB anyway if we don't use Moreno.

Is Dunn fit? Doesn't seem to be fancied at the first team level, but he could be an interesting option at LWB if we want to rest Moreno for the derby. Natural left footer, versatile, forward thinking. Highly doubt we'd go in that direction, but I bet he could do a job there. Pretty sure he's eligible to be submitted as a B List player.

I'd be surprised if Dunn is fit after how we went down against Chelsea.

It'll be Lallana anyway, he did alright there last season as well.

Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Juventus were the Benfica guests of honor at the 5th edition of the Youth Cup, race held as part of celebrations of the 9th anniversary of Seixal Training Centre, opened on September 22, 2006.

In competitive terms the balance was very positive for Benfica, with victories in three of the four games played: Juventus 3-0 (under 14); Real Madrid 1-0 (under-17) and Barcelona, 3-0 (U15). The only defeat of Benfica happened against Liverpool by 1-2 (sub-16).
Apparently the Norwegian kid we signed was playing for us in this.

Looking forward to the next U21 match tonight after the gap since the last one.  Do we expect anyone who starts tonight (eg Chiri (if over his illness), Branagan, and Rossiter possibly) will be on the bench at best for the Thursday Europa League?  I am guessing that Europa at home is more likely to see a rotation of the first team 'proper' (eg J Gomez, J Allen) and Europa away, particular the long trip to Russia, is more likely to see a sprinkling of the younger ones?

Team: Fulton, Maguire, Enrique, Cleary, Brewitt, Chirivella, Madger Gomes, O'Hanlon, Sinclair, Brannagan, Teixeira.

And there was me thinking Enrique would never run out in a Liverpool shirt ever again.

Randall, who is very familiar to the right back position, on the bench with Maguire playing out of position at left back suggests to me Randall might make the bench on Thursday, or he could be less than 100percent fit.

Are the news about Swindon Terminating Vigourox's loan deal true? Apparently he paid a 50 Pound Fine in Pennies. Very disappointed by his behaviour if this is true. His career is far more important than doing such acts of stupidity. I hope he learns from this mistake and another club gives him a chance to redeem himself.

It would appear it is true, the echo are reporting it, I read it's because he turned up to training late, he's hardly made a great case for himself behaviour wise.
