A very English Scandal...
An utter masterpiece from beggining to end....
It was magnificent.
I've never had much time for Hugh Grant, or at least the films and parts he has played in the past, but he absolutely nailed Thorpe in appearance and mannerisms, he was seriously good in this and with not a hint of the frothy disposable light stuff he is usually associated with. I'll have to re-appraise my opinion of him.
And Wishaw too was simply mesmerising, a superlative performance.
It should be a contender for awards, acting, script, the works, but the sad thing is, it probably has little resonance with viewers who have no recollection of it all and it may as well be some sideshow from Edwardian times.
And even Michelle Dotrice was good, haven't seen her on TV in years, probably since Some Mothers Do 'Ave em, and there were so many other familiar but less seen these days faces involved in it too. Quality stuff.
Which reminds of the joke from the time...What does Jeremy Thorpe and William the Conquerer have in common....?
