Less than 2500. Loads of fairweather fans would of applied.

Agreed about the fairweather and glory hunters , but reckon that's why they've gone for pre- 2005 - to weed a lot of those out ( initially anyway ).

Serious? Don't mess with me you!

The answer is I don't know mate.  They say there are 70,000 on the list and they will initially only be contacting the first 25,000.  I would guess that if you registered in 2007 then you won't be in that first 25,000 so you won't hear anything this time around.  It doesn't mean you're knocked off the list though, sounds like they'll make another decision on the next move in the summer when they see how many of the first 25,000 have signed up.

I assume after the initial 75000 people have been contacted the list will be reopened for new applicants.

This has got to be preperation for a new stadium/upgraded anfield.

Indeed. We know that this will come in the not to distant future (not sure when or how) but it is certainly on the cards, as it has been for a number of years now. I reckon the so called "first batch" will get sorted for a new season ticket with any new stadium upgrade/move.

Should be noted there's fuck all in that announcement to fix the people who have been using someone else's ticket year-in, year-out.

I hope they bring in picture swipe cards and random stops.
And again, I use other people's cards all the time - just hacks me off that there's people not been in Anfield for years that have got season tickets.

A: The first 25,000 applicants will each receive a letter from the Club as part of this communication process. All 25,000 applicants applied by letter - not Fan Card application form - and joined the list before April 2004 and will have received a letter at the time confirming their application from the Club. Should you have a query, the onus is on you to supply this original letter and prove your application.

I like this part, I still have my letter from 2000  :D

That 5 fee sounds a little fishy. Especially since its an initial fee. No word on if that charge will continue the longer you remain on the list

Could be a tidy little money maker for the club

70,000 people on the list. 5 a piece. 350,000 if everyone stays on the list. If that becomes a yearly fee... well you get the picture

Anyone else think that this will form part of the decision as to whether to renovate Anfield, or move to a larger capacity stadium?

Yes, peanuts in club finance terms especially once you deduct the costs involved with processing the list, the payment and mailing all 70,000 people.  In the long run I would have thought that they would want to push all those on the list towards membership as a stepping stone to get a ticket.

OK then RAWK sweepstake.  How big a mess is that list?  Out of the 25,000 they write too how many will register for the new list and pay the fiver?

I am going for 5000

I actually think the 5 is a little low. I think a fair few wont mind paying that to stay on the list. Even if they are fairweather.

It is well worth it though. If they send you a letter, set up an online system, and allow you track your application for a season ticket. I know we all want things for free, but I don't mind paying for a system that works (or could work) a lot better than a free one (which has been a mess for years).

It is a good point.  It will give them a nice indicator of potential demand.  Fraught with issues though.  How many people on the ST waiting list may already be using someone elses ST to go the games?

how do you police that though?  what if I cant go the game one week so give it my lad to go instead, surely I should be allowed to do that.

used to know a fella, sadly passed on now, used his ex business partners ticket for at least 10 years.  Went every home and away (but not euro aways), built up all the credit.  The fella who's name it was in had no interest in the game really, he had it for work reasons originally but wanted it keeping in his name all those years.

About 2 years ago he turns round and says he wants the ticket back because his sons mates dad was struggling to get tickets.   Not a lot he could do, to say he was gutted was an understatement.

...which is why it's strange this isn't a two-pronged approach.
They might find if they sort people out with season tickets from the list that people who rent their season ticket out every year have no-one to rent to and return it.

Exactly, and they are likely to pay the fiver to stay on the list as well, leaving a false impression still.

How many new season tickets are issued by the club a season? (ie fans who give up their tickets without passing them on to friend, family etc)

I'm guessing less than 10 a season

Doubt many will pay that 5 if they find out they are 25,000 on the list ;)

Glad the club is doing something, and I echo the thoughts of others re: new/upgraded stadium. Think they'll use this as a way of measuring what the demand for tickets actually is and then go forward with stadium plans from there.

Personally, I'm just going to wait. I've got my credits on my membership, so will wait for another update from the club and then apply later on this year online.

And no way all 25,000 people will pay 5.

It is likely to make a profit, but only keeping people prepared to spend a fiver to be on the list is not a bad way to winnow out the people who are on the list just in case.

My Dad gave our tickets up in around 93 I think, I wish he'd have hung on to them and passed them on whilst we couldn't afford it!

I'm on the waiting list but I can't see the problem with people passing on tickets to family members or mates. Its their seasie, its their choice what they do with it. They pay the money, they can sit at home and go to one game a season if they like.

With the size of the waiting list now you can't blame people for not giving tickets up completely, because you're looking at a 15 year wait before you get another chance!

Good idea this though, should give them the chance to clean the list up and get a more realistic figure.

I reckon you could probably at least half the "70,000" on the waiting list.

You can only police it if people swallow the fact they can't pass it on to who-ever they want.
So if your scenario you wouldn't be able to pass it on to your lad.
I think if you can't go you should be able to register that - either on the phone or on the net - and the club then get to sell your ticket, refund you the day-ticket price minus a booking fee.
Maybe - thinking off the top of my head - you could specify a first refusal option, where your son would have to pay a booking fee but would have automatic first choice at your ticket.

Your second scenario is the thing that makes me sick - it's not the only story I've heard like it.  You just shouldn't be able to rent your ticket out year after year like that - the ticket should be put back into the pot and someone else (whose probably renting one out right now) should get to have it.

The reason why we've got it is desperation.  People are so desperate for a ticket they're willing to go along with peoplee renting them their ticket year on year.
Fundamentally, it's not right.

Fair enough, your opinion and that - but it's not their seasie to pass on - or it shouldn't be.  They should get first refusal for the next season ticket, but it's not a silver tea-pot to be passed down the generations, it's a ticket to go and watch liverpool for a season, if you're not going you should have to give it back.

A fiver will not put someone off if they think they have a decent chance of a ST if we get a new stadium.

Should of been 10% of total ST price. Then discount it in real time interest when you finally get one.

Got my letter from the Club dated 1st October 1999 giving my lad's place in Book 5.

It's my current address so I'll be interested to see if I get one of the letters as I registered five years before the cut off point and assume I must be close to being within the 25000.

Good they're sorting this out but cheeky you're asked to pay to clean up their (the Club's) mess.

25,000 x 5 = 125000 - hmmm, bit cheeky on what the overall expense of this exercise will be too.

If they want a ST then you don't want to put them off.  What you want to do is deter people from staying on because they might possibly want one at some indeterminate time in the future maybe.

That's a good idea. You should have to give 1 or 2 people's names as reserve and there should be a limit on how many times a season you can do it. After say 4 the next time you can't go it has to be put into the open exchange.

Only thing is how do you police it? Photocards?

If they want a ST then you don't want to put them off.  What you want to do is deter people from staying on because they might possibly want one at some indeterminate time in the future maybe.
I know, and a fiver isn't going to do that.

You spend more than that tryign to get a ticket on the phone lines for one game.

We had the same problem with the PTS. 10,000 members but 80% were only buying two games a season.

If people want to sell their ticket to a mate, or member of the family, they should change the registration with the TO.
