Fantasy Premier League 2017/2018
« on: July 11, 2017, 07:25:15 am »
We're soon underway.

Let's start complaining about prices? Who's the best premiums?
Who's the best new signings? Do we pick Salah? Who's the best cheap rotation combo? Who will be your fifth mid? This years Mahrez/Alli/King? Who's the best cheap attacker?

They have released prices from all 20 clubs here:

Any players that immediately looks good? McAuley for 5.0 is very good value, imo.

The game will be released this week, hopefully today.

Please reply with RAWK league codes and I will update this post.

Link to the game:
https://fantasy.premierleague.com

Link to the rules: https://fantasy.premierleague.com/a/help

Here's some memorable quotes from last years thread:

Spoiler

Hojberg worth a punt?

Nope.

Ahmed Musa

Think he'll do well there.

A real gem there, yes ;-)

Batshuayi might start ahead of him.

Well...

joshua king might be worth a look actually

Actually, this turned out as a very good shout. Worth a look this year as well? This year he's priced at £7.5m, but he's classed as a Forward.

I'd stick with Martial. Think Mkhitataryan will have a slow start.

More like a slow season. And that goes for Martial as well!

Southampton players are worth a look. They only play 1 of last year's top 6 in their first 11 games.

New chip replacing "all out attack":

https://www.premierleague.com/news/436425

Spoiler
Fantasy Premier League returns this week with a new chip that will transform managers' season strategies.

The "Free Hit" chip replaces last season's "All Out Attack" chip to sit alongside the Wildcard, the Triple Captain and Bench Boost.

A Free Hit can be taken once per season and allows for unlimited transfers in a single Gameweek.

Valid for one Gameweek only
Managers can replace their entire squad for that Gameweek but their 15-man squad of the Gameweek before returns for the next deadline.

For example, if the Free Hit chip is played leading up to Gameweek 2, once the deadline has passed, you will see the points scored by your new squad via the points tab.

Your previous squad will now return and is accessible on the transfers tab.

 Fernando Llorente, Swansea City
The Free Hit chip will give unlimited transfers for a single Gameweek
Like the Wildcard, the Free Hit is used when confirming transfers. It cannot be cancelled once confirmed.

Managers cannot benefit from any price changes gained from their new Free Hit squad.

However, price changes applied to their previous line-up will take effect on their return once the chip expires.

Adjust for postponements
While the Free Hit cannot be used to play the market, it is nonetheless a powerful new strategy.

If offers an alternative to the Wildcard as a way of temporarily fixing a squad.

FPL managers can now turn to the Free Hit when injuries and suspensions hit and try to ride them out.

The chip can also be used to patch up squads when postponed fixtures cause issues.

In Gameweek 28 last season, we were left with just four fixtures following postponements due to FA Cup ties; Everton and Liverpool were among only eight teams taking part.

With the Free Hit chip, managers could have tailored their squads to those eight teams, reverting to their previous line-up for Gameweek 29.

Double Gameweek rethink?
It could also mean managers may rethink their approach to Double Gameweeks, where teams have more than one fixture in a single Gameweek.

These have always proved popular windows to put chips in play.

This season, the Free Hit could be used to maximise the number of players in a squad with the prospect of two fixtures in a Gameweek.

That could lead to many FPL managers rethinking their use of existing chips, particularly the second Wildcard.

Reclassified players:

Firmino as a forward, 8.5m. Good value there imo.

Holgate is kinda a placeholder once I figure out how bottom 13 teams are lining up defensively. Solid Everton defence + cheap and can rotate with Yedellin based on fixtures. I plan to play 3 atb so Luiz - Trippier - Holgate/ Yedellin

Mounie scored 1 in 3 for Montpellier last season. It's between him, Dwight Gayle and Tammy Abraham really for that 3rd striker slot.

I don't pick the highest priced goalies. I pick a couple of goalies that will probably have loads of shots to save in most games and be in the running for bonus points if they do keep a clean sheet. De Gea for example kept 5 more clean sheets than Boruc last year, but scored just 16 points more over the entirety of the season.

One thing i found interesting recently was that alli actually got a point more than kane last season. I was gonna go Kane and de bruyne but now it makes more sense to go alli and jesus.

I don't usually like spending big on defence but given the price of my cheaper picks, I've got a bit more xash to splash there right now

Who do you normally pick in goals? Someone expensive who is guaranteed to keep clean sheets like Courtois?

Or someone cheaper who will keep less clean sheets but get more bonus points, like Heaton last year.

I'm thinking Pickford, Hart or whoever Newcastle's No. 1 will be...

I've always gone for keepers from the lower half teams with good defences. Think about the boring styles the likes of Pulis play and go from there. You can normally get two in that price range and rotate based on who has the more favourable fixtures.

Can't speak for the likes of De Gea and Courtois because I've never really had one. I've always had pretty respectable finishes in FPL with the unspectacular choices.

Forgive my ignorance, and I'm sure it's on the site but...

I think for every three saves they get a point. I'm not sure exactly, but it's another reason to favour the lower half teams.

Something to watch out for will be teams moving to 3-4-3. Quite a few teams were trying it by the end of last season. It should result in some good value with certain defenders, as they gain the benefits of both defensive and attacking points.

Had a little go of a team today - difficult to know who City will start with this season, particularly attacking wise. I'd imagine Aguero and KDB are the only sure starters when fit, maybe Jesus.

Don't really like Spurs opening fixtures so Kane and Alli might have to wait whereas United seem to have easy fixtures until October...

Palace have been playing 343 in pre-season under De Boer. Van Aanholt scored a lot in a 442 at Sunderland so he could be a good pick.
