Been listing to Paradise (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p071k0jv/episodes/downloads) over the last couple of days.

It's about a cold case regarding a British couple from south Manchester (Peta and Chris) who go off travelling the world and are murdered in Belize 30 odd years ago.

Quite an interesting story. They release an episode a week and so far have released 6 episodes.

This is quite a listen. Up to date now and still not quite sure where I'm at with it

On a similar note

Root of Evil. It looks into the family of George Hodel. The man widely suspected as the Black Dahlia perp.

Listening to the back catalogue of Rule of Three at the moment - a couple of comedy writers who have worked on the likes of Charlie Brooker and Philomena Cunk have comedians on as guests to talk about comedy they love, for example Nish Kumar talking about Darkplace and Charlie Brooker on Airplane. It's the perfect mix of analysing the gags and techniques and just doing quotes and descending into laughter.

I'm the worst millennial ever, barely even knew what a podcast was up until a few months ago and had never listened to a single second of one.

I've got quite a bit longer commute to work than I used to have so I quickly ran out of music to listen to. One of my Liverpool-supporting buddies was raving non-stop about the That Peter Crouch Podcast and I started it a few weeks ago and can't get enough. Absolutely hilarious and love the rare insight into the life of a Prem footballer.
You cannot call overseas Liverpool supporters glory hunters. We’ve won one trophy this decade. If they’re glory hunters, they’re really bad ones. They’re actually journey hunters. It’s the journey and the story. Something about Liverpool has grabbed them." - Neil Atkinson (May, 2019)

Really couldn’t get into Paradise at all. Found it totally inferior to the one about the spy in Norway (the name totally evades me at the moment).

I'd agree. Don't think there is much mystery about what happened in the Paradise story. Whereas there was with the Norway story.

Another good podcast is 'Darknet Diaries'. They cover some really interesting stories relating to hacking and other cyber crimes. It can get a little bit technical sometimes but interesting nevertheless.

+1 for Darknet Diaries, though as someone in IT I presumably have a higher than average understanding of what they are talking about.

Finished Blackout yesterday, the dystopian drama with Rami Malik.

Sets up nicely for season 2.

I recently finished Immunities, a Sci-Fi podcast that is also set up nicely for the next season.

Going to start a podcast called The Orphans, which is also a Sci-Fi drama.

Quick mention of Jon Ronson's 'Last days of August'. A follow up to the Butterfly Effect, and outlines the circumstances surrounding the suicide of a major porn star. Quite haunting, in many ways.

Thank you - was aware of this and it’s due to hit Sky Atlantic on April 1st.

Devastating news about Adnan’s case yesterday :(

I am absolutely astonished that anyone can actually believe that Adnan is innocent. Read the transcripts. Then again, there are people who think O.J was innocent.

Hang on. You have no doubt whatsoever about his guilt? Nothing?

It's a heavy listen and it's literally just him, but John Barnes has one episode out.

He talks at length on racism and as a white, almost 40 year old man in a well paid job it's certainly thought provoking.

Just been listening to some of the more popular ones.

Radiolab- Is great. Loved their mini-series about US Supreme Court.

Revisionist History- Not a strictly history podcast. Focus is more on story telling and current affairs. It covers a wide variety of topics but the one episode about Wilt Chamberlain's free throw shooting and the ones about US university system are my favorites.

Thanks for that - that is genuinely fascinating.

But so much of that, which perpetrates the poster's opinion, is just speculation. It's quite hard to debunk speculation. But I come back to what I said - there is no hard evidence - the DNA didn't match Adnan, those fingerprints on the mirror etc were not a match. How can you strangle someone to death in something of a struggle (even if it only took the minimum 10-15 seconds needed) and not leave evidence on the body or in the car. The dodgy indicator may point to a struggle but again, it isn't fact. My biggest struggle in all of this, and at times I have gone backwards and forwards on his innocence over the years, is how people can take Jay's word as gospel when his own story/version of events changed so many times. That audio where you can hear the police prompt him is alarming. That's a lot of faith people are putting in Jay Wilds if their theory is true.

It's a bit mad how you can condemn people for thinking he is innocent without any physical evidence of note. I'm not saying there isn't a bigger picture here to allow people to join the dots and come to their own conclusion, but you can't berate people for thinking he is innocent when there is not a single piece of evidence out there. He is either very lucky/fortunate that he did not leave any DNA at the scene or on the body or he is one of the most unluckiest guys in the world to not get a lucky break at some stage.

You're much kinder than I. I thought it was a lot of bluster and nonsense.

The burden of proof is on the prosecutor, it was a complete mess of a case and if you have no doubt I hope you never end up on a jury.

Bluster and nonsense?

As someone who has listened and read about the case extensively, if you think that post is simply nonsense then that’s incredulous. Then again, people have been slating Henderson for years, so there’s room for us all.

As for doubt, it’s beyond reasonable doubt for me.

Fair enough, that’s well reasoned and I apologise for that.

I don’t trust Jay Wilds. Not at all. The reason Jay is central is Adnan can’t counter anything he says without admitting that he was with him. It’s a Catch 22 that will see Adnan spend his whole life in jail.

There is so, so much that I am not absolutely sure on but the one thing I am sure of, is that he shouldn't be in prison. I don't know how people can convict him beyond reasonable doubt. I remember reading Rabia's book and for the first time understanding why potentially a jury could question him, especially when she relived certain things we don't hear so much about - how they used his religon, community etc against him, but I still did not understand how they could convict him. I am not sure I have explained myself very well there, but I went from being absolutely flabbergasted at the thought of them convicting him on no evidence to thinking 'fucking hell, they did a job on him there.'

Jay knew were the car was. And that's key. However, there are serious doubts as to how long the car got there. Also, Jay didn't mention this in his initial statements - it happened some time after, if I recall correctly? Why not? If he knew where the car was, why didn't he say it upfront? I don't think it is a stretch to think that the police found the car eventually and fed the information to Jay, to help corroborate his story. Again, this is speculation. I also remember something about police checks being done on the registration though I can't remember if they were on Hae's number plates or if I am getting confused with Making a Murderer - having done Serial multiple times, all of Undisclosed a few times and some of Truth & Justice, the book, blogs, Reddit etc... I still struggle to recall key points.

I don't.

But I have gone both ways at various times over the last few years but I still can't find anything which convinces me he is guilty. And I do look and read the other side, because without any evidence at all it is possible, which is why I found that thread interesting and a good a try as any at trying to provide his guilt but like most, it's just speculation being presented as fact.

Really not liking this apparent fragmentation of podcasts into "Acast-only" and "Spotify-only" and the like.

5 live Boxing.

I really enjoy this, it's the first pod I started to listen to.  One of the most interesting episodes featured the role of the cut man, and their role during a fight.  Bunce can get a bit annoying at times, but the content is good.

I've really gotten into the UFC over the past few years, the bbc used to do an MMA podcast, but that's been canned now. I listen to below the belt by Brendan schaub, its decent, although the first 15 mins tends to be all about him rather than what fights have occurred over the weekend and a look forward to upcoming fights.  He used to be a UFC fighter, so his perspective is quite interesting on fights.  Obviously I like the rogan MMA pods (and the JRE too)

he does another called king and the sting with theo Vonn, only listened to a one or two, but some of it is quite funny

Started listening to two new ones and the last one when I can listen to it properly. Both are fairly low key filler podcasts if you start to get low on your main ones.

Beyond Today - A nice BBC low key 20 minute piece on something slightly off the main news

The tip Off - quite interesting pod by an investigative journalist

13 minutes to the moon - BBC pod. A really amazing analysis of a slice of history. Just incredible detail. Basically this 13 minutes is broken into about 8 30 minute podcasts. Listened to 2 out of order and found it really engaging. Want to listen to it again another time so that I can listen to the whole thing.

Anyone listen to Blood on the Tracks? It’s hosted by Colin Murray and is essentially Fighting Talk but with music. Panellists have to select a series of tracks based on certain criteria. A lot depends on the guests but normally why’re quite a diverse bunch and leads to a good mix of music and anecdotes.

I heard a podcast mentioned on one I listen to. They said it was called South Cork, but it's not, and I can't track it down. It's about a man that commits murder, but doesn't go down for it because (in their paraphrased words) South Cork is so insulated, he got away with it as no one would speak up against him. He's even interviewed on the podcast, practically says he did it.

Anyone listened to something along these lines?

Yes! This is called West Cork, not South Cork which may be why you couldn’t track it down. It’s about the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier - I really enjoyed it. It’s get a mention in this thread somewhere.

I think I downloaded it on Audible - signed up for the free trial, downloaded and listened to the podcast and then cancelled it - didn’t pay a penny.

Thank you, C! I actually had looked for West Cork, and was just making an error in my post.

And yes, it doesn't show up in my podcast app, so probably Audible exclusive. Luckily, I'm quite familiar with getting free trials from Audible ;D

Thanks, mate.

No worries. There was a great RTE documentary on the case apparently but yet to track that down.

I am really enjoying the 13 minutes to the moon podcast on BBC Sounds.

Really interesting view on Apollo 11 and the build up to it.
