Its offical: scousers the funniest people
« on: September 12, 2005, 07:59:59 pm »
In the mirror today, Liverpool tops the place for funniest people and grim london and wales come rock bottom- no suprises there then :D

SCALLY WAGS
Scousers funniest in UK
By Tom Parry
IT really is grin up North - with Liverpudlians topping a laughter league of Britain's funniest folk.

Sardonic Scousers easily came out top in a new poll of people who can make others raise a smile.

And, just to prove the chuckle count is tops all over the higher end of the map, mad-for-it Mancunians are second most likely to cause mirth while jovial Geordies are third and far-from-dour Yorkshire Tykes fourth.

Banter from Brummies came fifth, followed by the Scots.

But while Liverpool is comedy capital of the UK, London's supposedly cheeky Cockneys were only narrowly pipped for last place by the Welsh - who were deemed to have the worst sense of humour by one in five Britons.

The survey of 1,000 people by cruise firm Ocean Village found that laughs in Wales are three times fewer a day than the average 14 elsewhere. Which may be why comic Max Boyce's leeks-and-rugby act flopped so fast.

Meanwhile, researchers found that some areas keep producing rib-tickling acts representing the mood and humour of their birthplace.

When it comes to Scousers, for instance, it is no coincidence that top funnyman Ken Dodd hails from the city - as did Jimmy Tarbuck, Kenny Everett, Paul O'Grady and Alexei Sayle.

The organisers said: "A huge number of successful comedians come from Liverpool, so it's not surprising its inhabitants have scooped the title."

But Manchester lays claim to Steve Coogan and Victoria Wood while other North West hits include Peter Kay, Eric Morecambe and Johnny Vegas.

Ant and Dec typify Newcastle upon Tyne's fun-loving nature and Yorkshire boasts a host of comics including Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer.

Jasper Carrott and Julie Walters are wits from the West Midlands and Billy Connolly put Scotland on the comedy map before he got more serious.

But Jim Davidson's Cockney brashness clearly doesn't cut it at all now.

Didn't need a paper to tell us. Not scouse meself, but at ten was totaly taken in by scouse humour, the accent, the delivery. Loved it. Then there was the Beatles. Football was third on the list at first but soon got caught up in the passion of the fans & our great club.

Remember being up there at times in 70's & listening to a phone in radio show. Serious topics. People would phone in about the subject. Talk earnestly whilst taking you in depth then,,,,,,,,,,,,, fucking punchline that split yer sides for ages. Happened virtualy every time I went up. Class. :thumbup

:wave Like my fella scousers I wasn't suprised that we topped the awards table yet again! ;D

However I also was  a tad embarrassed when I heard on the same tv announcement that Merseyside police were appealing to the public to stop phoning 999 to ask them where they can get petrol from!!??? ::)

But I quickly perked up as I realised it must have been the thick Blue side of our city that would have thought of doing that! ;)

Alexei was once asked if it were tru that all Scousers thought of themselves as comedians.

"That's ridiculous", he said, "It's really only about 95%".

Funnily enough I offered to buy him a proper metal Knight's sword while we were on holiday in France this year. He just looked at me and said "are you silly, someone will get killed"

I know who he meant as well, and it warms my heart to think that he doesn't want me dead after all.
