Still no Shit & Shine release this year.

Lies. Chakin was April. The weird barfly jazz one. Has the fella from Enablers singing a tune. Probably not their "main" release for the year, I really like it though.

Off to see them in May ....Seen them three times now, once in a Cathedral , Once in a Church and once in a proper venue.....that used to be a Church!

Saw them in Christchurch Cathedral in Dublin many years ago. Probably around the time of Trust. Was lovely

Am slowly getting my head around this tune/band. Jaki and Damo from Can used to be in it. Formed in 1981. This is from this year (I think * ;D) . Lovely dubby track with some Bela Lugosi's Dead + Bjork vibes to it...

I know right?

Does anybody have their September lists of albums they have enjoyed this year? I've enjoyed alot but have a terrible memory of things I'd like to listen to again. I'll try and do mine too.

Looking forward to the new Gnod + Richard Dawson & Circle albums coming out soon.

Few bits and pieces here, good sir. Think most in here will find something out of this 25. Think you'll like that Jason Sharp, record, Filler. Maybe the Suuns and Wolves In the Throne ones, too.

Saddened this evening to learn of the death of Greg Gilbert, of the Southampton band Delays, at the age of 44.  Greg was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2014, which was so advanced it had spread to his lungs.  Greg's kept in touch & been open about his experiences via social media, until confirming at the beginning of September that he has left a hospice & was being treated only for pain management.  His brother & bandmate, Aaron, posted the following to Twitter a short while ago:

Spoiler

[close]

The band - fronted by Greg - released four albums together between 2004-10.  I'm most familiar with their debut, Faded Seaside Glamour, and admittedly lost track with them a little over the following years.  One of the songs from that album though, 'Hey Girl', is one of only a handful of songs that I can claim remember the first time I heard (or saw - it was on one of the music channels) - I was immediately drawn to the jangly guitars; the song reminiscent of 'There She Goes'.

Posting a few of Greg & the band's songs here, and sending best wishes to anyone touched by this dreadful disease.

Jeez, knew he had been ill, but that’s still a kicker. Loved their first two albums and was only listening to Faded Seaside Glamour yesterday.

Always put me in a good mood when one of their songs popped into my random shuffles.

Does anyone like Feeder, or did anyone like them back in the day?  They were one of my favourites in my early teens, which probably coincided with their peak in popularity (Echo Park, Comfort in Sound, and Pushing the Senses), but I lost track a little after that third (their 5th/6th) album.

Was curious so had a listen to their singles when they released 2016's All Bright Electric, and ended up picking that & their subsequent album up - really enjoyed both.  They've got another record due next year (I make it their 11th/12th, depending on how you classify Swim), and I really like the sound of what I've heard so far too.

Feel like they're a band who've fallen through the cracks a bit since the early-to-mid-00s - they pre-dated the wave of British bands that arrived in the early 00s, and probably got lumped in with some of the MOR late-90s stuff.  Have always been fond of the early stuff though - still enjoy listening to it now - and the last couple of records caught my attention again.  Inclined to think that Grant Nicholas is a pretty underrated songwriter, when looking through their back-catalogue.

Certainly don't think it's 'pushing the envelope' in the way that some of the stuff that finds favour in this thread is, but I'm posting in case any one is still listening or in case an old fan is interested :wave

100 Broken Windows is my usual go-to answer when I'm asked what my all-time favourite album is.

Hope Is Important before it is punkier; The Remote Part after it is rockier; Warnings/Promises is their one that plays to their love of REM.  Good band; still good live.  Roddy Woomble's latest solo record came out a couple of weeks ago and is decent (though, in terms of getting plays from me, suffers from having been released on the same day as Gruff Rhys' latest).

Laid up sick so just reading through this thread today and am pleasantly surprised to see this post. '100 Broken Windows' is such an unheralded record and it's one of my favourite albums as well ('Either/Or' by Elliott Smith is my favourite but it's in a select group after), still play it regularly, was listening to it last week actually. Think it should get a lot more love because it's such an easy record to get into, unlike 'Hope is Important' which like you say is more punkier (though I still can't believe when I play 'When I Argue I See Shapes' to people, they don't like it and I can't understand why, it's amazing!) and 'The Remote Part' and 'Warnings/Promises' have some of their best songs on them as well but as overall albums go, don't quite do it for me. They're also a bit more understandably polished than their earlier efforts. I did buy their subsequent albums as well but couldn't quite get into them as much. I think '100 Broken Windows' was them at their perfect crossroad between the rawer 'Captain' and 'Hope is Important' and their later albums.

But yes, just wanted to appreciate the love for a brilliant record which absolutely deserves more love.

Listened to two new albums recently released by Clay Pipe Music. Really enjoyed both. Very tempted to listen to this now, or just buy. The Andrew Wasylyk was very good. They do very good gentle head massage music. Really good for any fellow Butthole's fans out there.

Finally got arpund to SAULT 9...grittier and down beat compared to the previous 7&8...not hitting the highs of those two..denser production too....maybe more of a UK influence and being written in Covid times..

The Low album is a masterpiece. Love it more with each listen.

Really enjoying to Ada Lea album too - out on Saddle Creek.

He was a genuinely lovely fella. He'd always allow you to say what you wanted... his brain whiring away at every word. He was intense in that way, but loveably so. I've a number of Jazz Butcher records including a test pressing that I always wanted him to come and see but I never got round/remembered to ask. Bloody hell.

I'm properly enjoying this Biffy Clyro resurgence. They seriously plateaued with their 2013 and 2016 albums and it felt like they were never gonna get back to the highs of Only Revolutions, but their 2020 was a serious return to form and their new one, "The Myth of the Happily Ever After" is another triumph, so glad that they're getting back to their best.

I'm off to see them at Mountford Hall on Friday, should be a hell of a gig.

Thanks for the heads up, didn’t know they had a new album out. Agree the last one was a real return to form.

Loving Phoebe Bridgers' cover of Bo Burnham's 'That Funny Feeling'. Sounds like something she could've written.

Same - thanks Bread.  Thought this was just an album of remixes or something.

Had a couple of listens and it’s pretty good although hasn’t grabbed me as much as the last one did. I’d say it’s heavier and more like some of their earlier stuff in places, which isn’t a bad thing.
