Best goalkeeper in the world, would have been a bit of a travesty if that other clown tied with him in the golden gloves because hardly any team actually bothers v City rather than any sort of good goalkeeping (we saw the state of his goalkeeping today when called upon)

Next year is going to be very difficult for him. Gold is heavy, I don't know if he'd show the same reactions with those golden gloves.

Totally agreed with this. So many season-defining saves from Al we've had - about 6 off the top of my head in the Champions League alone! Wouldn't swap him for anyone on the planet.

Brilliant season.

Our improvement this season shows how important defensive solidity is if you want to reach a higher level. We can now build on top of the solid grounds we've built to make sure we stay where we are right now.

It's nice to know we'll have a Top 3 keeper in the world in the foreseeable future. It would be extremely difficult to compete for two biggest trophies without one.

Fantastic season for him. Earned those golden gloves (with a healthy assist from our great defenders).

Can't wait to see him standing in goal for us in Madrid.

He has had a brilliant first season. I've never posted about him because I've never been really certain enough to express an opinion. But today he was absolutely brilliant. Fucking hell he pulled off a couple of great saves and was solid.

I'm finally in a place where I can really enthuse, that may seem a bit mad to you all but that's been where I was. Never 100% certain we had a keeper for the next 5-years.

One of the most complete keepers I've seen. He had the 2nd highest clean-sheets in Serie-A last season (Behind Pepe Reina!).

This season he has won the Golden Glove. With his quality & our defense, he will be up there for the foreseeable number of seasons.

First choice back 5 basically sorted for the next 4-5 years with VVD and Alisson. It gives so much reassurance to know that, even when our excellent defence is breached, Alisson will be alive to snuff out the danger at the last. His closing down of the open shooter is absolutely second to none in the world.

Best keeper of my lifetime- will only get better too

Has everything- positioning, handling, distribution and presence. Does the basics and the difficult with minimal fuss. Comfortably the best in the league- and will prove to be the best in the world over the next few years.

It's been a very long time since we had a keeper who instilled such calmness and reassurance. On the few occasions the opposition get through on goal, you get this comforting feeling that almost 10/10 he's going to pull off a cracking save or simply collect the ball.

He's grown in to the roll of playmaker so, so well also. Dare I say, at another club he may even be captain.

Once he and VVD get that communication down as well - too many instances of confusion.

Agree - we wouldn't have challenged for the league and we wouldn't be in the CL final had we not signed him.

He's a man mountain and should have been in the team of the year in my view.

Here’s my take on him.

The best keeper that we had for many years was Ray Clemence. He was quite slightly built but threw himself around the penalty area. His performances were one reason for our success in the 70s. He was an ever present in the team which is what you would expect for a great keeper.

Grobbelaar and Reina were good but Clemence for me was better.

Other than those three, we have struggled with keepers and I think we may have missed a few trophies along the way.

It seems that we spent money on or acquired good defenders, midfielders and attackers but never really took goalkeeper that seriously.

All that changed for this season. We splashed out huge fees for VVD and Alisson and we got arguably the best players in the world at their positions. Now i’m not advocating spending megabucks all of the time (Think Robertson, Mane, Salah, Firmino, Fabinho etc) but sometimes it is needed.

Alisson has had some shaky performances but these were early on as he settled in. He now has a brilliant understanding with the defence especially VVD. He has pulled off great saves to help us win games. He is the keeper who we were waiting for all of those years.

A brilliant signing.

the announcers reaction to that save was pretty telling as well - they understood its significance.
