Labeled dense on an internet forum, what a nightmare. The guy is right, Lucas just doesn't offer much in terms of ball delivery, and the amount of players who run freely through our defence is ridiculous, so which part is he responsible for?

He's not to blame for the terrible defending, as he's not a DM!

He's not to blame for the terrible attacking, as that's not his job either!

;D

What a useful player.

Isn't everybody fucking bored of the whole Lucas debate now? Surely to God they are?

Facts:
Those who dislike Lucas and think he does nothing will never, ever change their minds about the lad now, no matter what he does.
Lucas is a decent player.
Lucas is not the next coming of Christ and neither is he shite. The truth lies somewhere between the two.
This is the most irritating thread on RAWK.

He doesn't! We're just on a massive wind-up. He's really shit, you see. Every time you see him make a good pass, he actually doesn't make it. He actually lost the ball! Don't get me started on those stats, fucking unreliable they are. Lost the ball eight times in four games? That's shite! Gerrard's much better than that. Every time he makes a great run, it's really the wrong one, isn't it? Makes space for others and keeps play going, a fucking mirage that is. Hate the way the lad plays with his head up, and I really can't stand the way he didn't lose heart after getting booed in Anfield a couple of years ago. The fucking wanker is improving, I'm dead pissed off about it. But I love LFC. YNWA!!! I'll tell youse all what, get on braille football, it's the next big thing.

I think it is.

Lucas has made 2 competitive appearances for Brazil outside of the 2008 Olympics.

Or is the Fifa site one big anti-Lucas conspiracy? ;D

Who are they then? His brilliant partner Meireles? Torres? Gerrard? Kuyt?

I'm not trying to slag them all off, but this whole thing of Lucas being immune from criticism, and the over the top adoration...it's ungrounded.

Exactly.

That instantly dispels, along with his lack of a World Cup call-up, the myth that he's this integral player for them.

He clearly isn't. Nor is he for us.

He could be for both one day, but it's not happening right now.

I think it's all a reaction based on guilt by those that used to boo and slate him and others that always had faith in him, or so claim.

I don't understand why he's suddenly this wonderful player that nobody can say anything remotely imperfect about.

The only one on a wind up is you mate, there are about a dozen Lucas threads that have been locked and binned at one time or another, and you are not adding anything to the discussion.

Have a look at the locked threads, and if you still think that you have seen something that no one else has, do mention it.

Lucas is a good player but does everyone think he is really LFC quality? IMO he isn't, we need someone closer to the ability and vision of Xavi or Xabi if we want to back to the top.

He's not. Noone has said he is. Just that he is very good at what he is asked to do, and unlike others he sticks to his role.

As explained a million times, people like you and the clowns above don't understand what he brings to the TEAM. And all you can say is 'average', 'not good enough' or sometimes mistruths like 'makes silly fouls' and 'gives the ball away'.

My favourite recent one is that he is putting pressure on the back 4 by not 'being strong enough'. Jesus wept. He's been playing CM on his own for the last few games thanks to Stevie's lack of discipline. Then Poulsen comes in as a pure DM against Blackpool and these dickheads are blaming Lucas for not playing the DM role well enough. You couldn't make it up.

There's a girl on here who supports the Redsox who has only started watching football since NESV bought us, and even she understands more about midfield play than some of the people in this thread.

Watched Madrid play quite a few times this season.  I would say he plays the game very similar to Khedira... Similar type of game and for me the same level to.

Khediras good enough to play for Madrid, I  dont understand why some fans cant see the quality of Lucas.

In the first choice team, yes.

I would gladly see Lucas as our first-choice reserve midfielder, but others seem to think he's top dollar.

I don't know why people are so touchy over it. Given how much he divides opinion, I think it's clear that nobody can really be totally safe in the knowledge that they're right.

Yes he's improved. Yes he's nowhere near as bad as he used to be. But he isn't in the top bracket of midfielders. No chance. Not for me and nor for many, many others.

I like his desire and drive and the way he's always ignored the criticism and fought for his place, but that isn't going to be enough. Look at Kuyt...once he loses the form, his determination and hard-work doesn't see him through games.

Lucas can be a top player on his day, yet he relies on the teammates around him performing. He can't grab a game by the scruff of the neck. This is where most of our squad falls down. Gerrard is the only exception, and his ability to do that is fleeting these days.

Different manager. Jesus wept.

Those questioning your opinion aren't being so arrogant...so why do you feel the need?

Why are you getting so worked up about people disagreeing with you?

A different manager may well have him in the side, yes...but that doesn't mean that he's setting the world alight for Brazil - who aren't the side they have been in recent years and won't be with him in the middle of the park, not for me.

They've had some absolutely outstanding midfielders - and he simply isn't in that bracket. Whether you like it or not.

So get over yourself and accept other people's opinions.

I'd also love to know why those fans that used to complain at him for constantly passing the ball short, sideways and backwards are now claiming that he 'works the ball' and maintains possession well.

He's made a few more incisive passes here and there, but he's still nowhere near Alonso for passing or Mascherano for defensive capabilities.

Those are the standards he needs to maintain and he isn't.

The drop in quality in the squad and the addition of Poulsen, coupled with his upturn in form, has seen him suddenly look a much better player than he actually is.

He can't grab a game by the scruff of the neck.

Absolutely bang on.

He cannot run a midfield or dominate the battle.

Brazil have a new manager and are building for the next world cup.  So far Lucas has been in the team consistently. Of course that's not good enough is it because you can't be seen giving credit to the lad.

I don't know why people are so touchy over it.
Because these threads are like a zombie movie. You kill a few off with reasoned debate, then new people register, find the latest Lucas thread and seem to think that it's cutting edge interesting stuff to post that Lucas is 'not LFC quality' without EVER explaining why, in football terms. If asked to do so they get all narky about it and start to slate the forum itself, as if it's some sort of crime to rate a 23 year old who gives everything and is playing well.
It gets frustrating. Very frustrating. I don't want to sound condescending but it's just irritating to see people dismiss a player because it's fashionable to do so. I'm not saying that's the case with you but it certainly is with many.

There's your honest answer as to why.

initially I wasnt too keen on lucas. For a couple of seasons he was very average. However I have grown to like his attitude. If everyone of our other players played with the same attitude we wouldnt be where we are now.

I agree with above poster that in the final third (especially shooting) he is poor. However he has consistently being one of our better players this season and a lot of last as well. He is not a glamorous player but nor was didi. I think as time goes on Lucas will become better and better. To be honest i think he is the least of our problems at the moment. Its our creative wide players that need to up their game and meireles off form this last two games have made things difficult for him.

But he is a better player than anderson for the mancs but lacks that extra quality around him

I'm one of the people asking why everyone is heaping praise on him when he is far from the finished article.

I am not gloating over the above, I am agreeing that he isn't bossing midfields and that we need someone who can - a la the midfielders we've lost in the past few years.

I want Lucas to keep improving and to go on to become a top midfielder. I am just saying that I don't think he's near to that. Yet.

Totally agree.

When they both arrived at their respective clubs, I thought we'd missed a trick and got the worse player as we did when they got Vidic and we got Skrtel.

But over the last year or so Lucas has got a lot better and Anderson has just not evolved as a player. I wouldn't be surprised to see United let him go in the next year or two.

We certainly got the better deal in hindsight.

If people don't like him I happy to accept they have an opinion, but why the hate?  Why so many negative comments?   Could we not focus on positive things in our club and it's players?

Lucas is a marmite people, no-one is always right, and no-one is always wrong.  Everyone expects different things from there team.

My opinion, Lucas is exactly the type of player we should have, technically excellent, plays great pass and move, young, and would die for the shirt.  But I'm not stupid enough to think that the haters will see any of this.........To busy saying he's not Busquests/Masch/Alonso/whoever.

How about we accept he's Lucas Leiva, and focus on what he does bring our side?
Rossiter absolutely bossed it tonight. Really believe he'll end up playing more games this season than Lucas.

Henderson won't make it here. Sorry but he won't and won't
