I've searched high and low but unless i am having a total nightmare i couldn't see a thread on Peter Crouch

Now other than having had one of my favourite songs for a player (feet stick out the bed) i just wanted to say how much I am enjoying his Podcasts on the BBC where he talks about all sorts of subjects.

Couple of my favourites so far are talking about the ice baths when he was saying Shaqiri was up to his nostrils whilst Crouch said he didn't even get his balls wet ;D

The other was a story about Liverpool fancy dress parties

Well worth a listen anyway!

He's one of the great characters in football. Love his twitter feed. He's got a book out at the moment too - 'How to be a Footballer' - think I'll give it a go.

Enjoying the podcast even though I generally find (usually ex) footballers telling anecdotes about their playing days a bit boring & cringeable. Crouch seems really self aware and self deprecating though.

Great book. Culminates in a great little chapter about Gerrard.

He does come across as a decent bloke. I saw a tweet of his a few months back that made me laugh.
Some lad had said thanks to him as Crouch had donated something, a shirt possibly, im not sure. The lad then said "as a thank you I promise to stop wanking over your wife". Crouch replied " if you could mate, that would be great."

He’s quite a funny bloke. His podcast and book are a decent listen/read, especially the podcast episode that came from his old local curry house which is now my local one.

Crouch's goal for Stoke against Man City was phenomenal. Easily one of the best prem goals of the last decade. It's easy to bucket him with some other big lumps up top but he had a lot of ability for his size.

Been getting into the podcast recently and it's good but a few insights into the state of English football(ers). He lauds Harry redknapp for his simple tactics at spurs of just giving the ball to modric. He talks about Tony pulis giving etherington and crouch days off training for playing well. He's asked about a tactical mistake and cites an example of playing on the left of a 433 for us away to Watford but he scores 2 goals and we won 3-0. He takes a dig at capello for giving him tips on how to improve his volleying. He talks about his goal drought with us and basically says he fixed it by playing higher up the pitch than raga asked him to.

He comes across as a good and down to earth lad overall though. Don't think there's any malice to the above examples but nice examples of how some footballers probably think. Managers get a lot of stick

Absolutely love the guy. He's got a really great sense of humour and was a very good player in his younger days. I hope he takes up punditry actually because he's got a sense of humour but also speaks quite well about the game.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

Former England striker Peter Crouch has ended his playing career aged 38 after more than 21 years as a professional.

The former Portsmouth, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Stoke striker was out of contract at Burnley in June.

Crouch played for a total of 11 clubs and earned 42 England caps.

"If you told me at 17 I'd play in World Cups, get to a Champions League final, win the FA Cup and get 100 Premier League goals, I would have avoided you at all costs," Crouch wrote on Twitter.

"It's been an absolute dream come true. Our wonderful game has given me everything. I'm so thankful to everyone who helped me get there and helped me stay there for so long."

Crouch said his decision to retire arrived "after a lot of deliberation".

Having started his career at Tottenham, he had spells on loan at Dulwich Hamlet and IFK Hassleholm before moving to Queens Park Rangers.

He then moved to Portsmouth, Aston Villa, Norwich on loan, Southampton, Liverpool, Portsmouth again, Tottenham, Stoke and Burnley.

He scored 108 goals in 468 Premier League appearances and won the FA Cup in 2005-06 with Liverpool and played in the Champions League final in 2007 as part of Rafael Benitez's side.

Crouch admitted the prospect of retirement was "scary" : "To go from being a regular starter to someone whose role is limited to 10 or 15 minutes off the bench has been hard to accept.

"I will be 39 in January but I am physically fit and could have carried on. What I didn't want to be was someone who was thrown on to have balls smashed up to them."

The 6ft 7in striker, who scored 22 times for England, was more adept with his feet than his head despite his stature - scenario he demonstrated with eye-catching volleys for both Stoke and Liverpool.

His trademark 'robot' celebration gained him notoriety and later in his career he was part of the successful 'That Peter Crouch Podcast'.

Thought that myself, as his technical ability has never warranted that and he wasn't the best header of the ball (even though he's scored a number of goals from headers)

Took ages for him to score here and then he became a cult figure. We probably would have won the CL had he started as a lot of the Italian teams feared him. By the time Torres arrived, he was arguably not quick enough to integrate into the attack. That volley against Galatasaray was something

He was probably our most reliable striker in that post-Owen and pre-Torres era. Really helped the team and he linked up well with Gerrard

Obviously he was phased out a bit by Torres’s arrival but he did still start some big games with him like the Arsenal QF.

Always have his best, always seemed delighted to be here and to have played for us, always speaks highly of us. And he said in his book that he grew up practising his volleys in the park against the tennis court netting in Ealing and I had a kickabout with my son in the very same spot a coupe of weeks ago. He’ll be my pension fund yet. :D

Time for him to focus on Divock Samrat and the rest of the family.

Cannot believe it is 11 years since he left Anfield and that he was at Stoke for 8 years

Brilliant player, one of the most likeable footballers if not maybe the most likeable. Maybe the biggest surprise as well, when we signed him it just looked like we’d got a big target man to hit balls at but he’s got a great touch for a big man.
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.
