I have some sort of upper respiratory infection at the moment, came from nowhere. Sore throat, cough and then today awful ear ache, I think its a sinus infection of some sort. Just cannot get warm at the moment, despite having the heating on and wrapping myself in a blanket.

I have tested for covid and it was negative, I always have some handy due to my job. I hope you are feeling better now. They are so many things going around at the moment.

How many days have you had those symptoms? We have them to hand also for similar reasons. Not better yet. Tired and coughing more than anything. I go to bathroom and feels like heart is racing afterwards when I sit back on sofa. I thought I had cold and this hadn't crossed my mind.

My third day of testing. The last time I had covid it took about four days to before it was confirmed, so tomorrow might be the all important day for it. I haven't had the loss of energy you normally get with covid, which is why I'm guessing its something different. I will do another test tomorrow to make sure. It sounds as though you're going through it, it's horrible. I am thinking of going back to wearing a mask on public transport. Everyone on the train seems to have something wrong with them at the moment.

Ah I tested positive on day 4. I've only had it once before and remember being shattered when I had it then. This one is slightly different as the sore throat etc first time around was horrendous. It's not been great. I can WFH but I haven't felt up to it so haven't which is only saving grace as it means I've slept today especially throughout the day.

Plenty of people I know who caught this before Christmas thought it was something else and turned out it was COVID. I am seeing an increase in masks (amongst the elderly) mainly where I am which is a positive. There's no harm in it. People would be well to do that. On trains especially underground was an uncomfortable journey even when there isn't so much illness about.

Caught it for the first time. Started out like a cold, slight sore throat, runny nose, tickle cough and then last night lost taste and smell and did a test, positive line came up straight away. Today have aches and pains and go from freezing cold to the sweats. Have to say I feel lucky compared to how bad some people come down with it.

Managed to find a test and boom, positive!

Main symptoms are a blocked nose, sinus headache, slight sore throat and tasteless food.

Government destroys £1.4bn of PPE from one Covid deal

About £1.4bn worth of personal protective equipment (PPE) has been destroyed or written off in what is understood to be the most wasteful government deal of the pandemic.

Figures obtained by the BBC reveal that at least 1.57 billion items of PPE provided by the NHS supplier, Full Support Healthcare, will never be used, despite being manufactured to the proper standard.

The Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC), which was responsible for purchasing and delivering Covid PPE, said it was unable to provide a statement due to the pre-election period.

The Labour Party described the contract as a "staggering waste" while the Liberal Democrats said it was a "colossal misuse of public funds".

Full Support Healthcare agreed a £1.78bn deal in April 2020 to deliver face masks, respirators, eye protection and aprons - the largest Covid PPE order from a single supplier, accounting for 13% of the government’s total spend.

Before the pandemic, the Northamptonshire-based company, which was already a specialist manufacturer of PPE, had 25 employees and annual profits of £800,000.

Any profits since the contract was fulfilled are not known because in 2021 the co-directors, Sarah Stoute, 50, and her husband Richard, 53, based the business offshore in Jersey for privacy reasons.

She struggles for breath whenever she has to walk for more than a few yards, now has a blue badge and is thinking of getting a disability scooter so she can be a bit more active.

She had to change jobs and to see how it's affected her is really distressing and all while these wankers took the piss in Downing Street

Sorry about your Mum but also sorry about your cousin. My cousin's lass has long COVID and it's proved extremely delibitating. She's only in her thirties but it's not unusual to find her in bed by 6:30 pm. What's weird is how so many of the public have dismissed worries about getting it. I've read somewhere that the more times you catch Covid, the likelier you are to end up with Long Covid but people seem to have bought the lie that Covid is now no worse than a cold or flu.
On a related topic - I've been following the progress of H5N1 as it's moved from birds to cows and now mice. It appears to be spreading across the US and it will be interesting to see how honest they're being about mutations that could threaten humans and how quickly they act given the criticism they had of China over not controlling Covid.
