This is it, plain and simple. I have two friends who haven’t been vaccinated who take all sorts of drugs. Every weekend, they’ll take whatever’s handed to them. The “you don’t know what’s in it” line doesn’t ring true with that lifestyle. They don’t like being told what to do. If the vaccine was marketed as something scientists were trying to keep quiet, they’d take it.

You can go further down this rabbit hole. For whatever reason some people have a real distrust of experts and anyone vastly more knowledgable than themselves on a given area. Another friend of mine has refused vaccination because of random things he’s read online. Nothing new here I know, but I think this is symptomatic of a real insecurity problem. Some people personalities are so fragile that they can’t confront the idea of expertise.

I've tried this with the mate I mentioned earlier, he won't get vaccinated for all kinds of bullshit reasons, but happily sucks on 20 cancer sticks a day

I think he will eventually get done and that is only to enable him to go to Tenerife on holiday.

i know how headstrong these people can be in their beliefs, but maybe you could ask her to write a few questions around the vaccine and to take them with you to the vaccination centre? there's a doctor there and from what i've seen whilst volunteering they've offered up a private room for anyone uncertain to discuss their issues. there's no pressure either way, but maybe that'll help her let your son have his vaccine.

Pretty much exactly the same as my lad's mum as mentioned above.
Been arguing with her basically since he decided he wants vaccinated. This morning she sent me some stuff from the CDC website, despite me repeatedly telling her I want UK based facts. It contained some info on possible side effects. When I responded with links from the same CDC website showing that the recommended young people his age be vaccinated and the benefits of it, she quickly moved on to something else.
They're a bunch of wankers who don't like being proven wrong.

Reading the link that Howard just provided it looks like there's nothing your ex can do, assuming your lad has capacity to decide for himself.

How accurate are the rapid antigen tests does anyone know? I have been testing every night using them and up to tonight was getting negative results, but tonight that changed and I have just had a positive test. Is it worth getting a PCR done, or am I best just sitting tight and self-isolating?

I can't see how they go ahead when so many kids are still missing lessons around the country and lots of staff are off too. The current year 11s have had 2 years of real fragmented study now.

Can't answer your question though, sorry. By antigen do you mean LFT? I think they are 90% accurate, don't know if false positives are more likely than false negative.

Yes, I mean LFT, I think I'm going to have to do a PCR as I've developed a cough in the last day. Yes, the timing does suck, especially as I have been working in a room of a colleague who has looked rough for a while, and has just confirmed that he is now positive. He even decided to call into work and let us know too. Can you believe that?

Best to get a PCR.

Positive on a LFT are fairly accurate, more so if the person has symptoms.
Still possible to get a false positive if you have no symptoms, much less likely to get two false positives on a LFT two days in a row, so could do one tomorrow too which would pretty much confirm it.

Worth getting a PCR. My lad gave two negative LFTs over 4 days and took a PCR the day after the second one and was positive. He then gave one positive LFT about 4 days later.

You could have been positive and not shown on the LFT's and could now be almost clear. Have you been showing any symptoms?

Can you not go and get a PCR locally tonight? If that is negative then you should be able to get the booster, you'll get the results tomorrow.

No, that's not true, they actually state to go for a PCR if you have symptoms, my lad was tested at a walk in. They send you info saying go by car or bike, try not to use public transport, to wear a mask there and back and go straight there from home and back again. The security and staff are all masked up.
