Yes, he wanted to leave to go home to Argentina, but Kenny asked him for one more season. He gave it to us and left when Rodgers took over.

Maxi Rodriguez is set to make an Anfield return in March's Liverpool FC Legends clash with Barça Legends.

The former Argentina international, who retired late last year, became a huge fan favourite during his two-and-a-half-year spell with the Reds.

Signed from Atletico Madrid in January 2010, Maxi went on to make 73 appearances and score 17 goals – including two hat-tricks – as well as lift the League Cup in 2012.

And it has now been confirmed Maxi will pull on club colours once again on Saturday March 26 for the LFC Foundation legends charity match, which kicks off at 3pm GMT at Anfield.

Loved Maxi here. Saw the Villareal- Liverpool game on a stream with him and Aguero and he didn¿t celebrate any of our goals at all. :(

Tbf he was short period of time with us, and wasn't the best period either. Also i don't think King Kenny treated him fairly, he replaced him with Downing

Maxi Rodriguez was in the legends game vs Barca the other month, managed by Kenny so I doubt there's any bad feeling or anything.
