I wonder if anyone watches these apart from me...Dave hasn't been on for a month. It'll be a nice collection of links though for the summer. ;D

Froome failed testing at the Vuelta apparently.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cycling/42335916

Doesn't sound like anyone is panicking about it, sorry Dave mate.

Twice the allowed amount of an asthma drug in his sample.

He says he used his inhaler more, following his doc's advice.

The problem I see here is that the stuff is legal in the first place. Obviously it helps your performance if you can breathe better and have higher oxygen uptake. On the other hand, being realistic, its pretty difficult for an athlete to keep track of the amount of a substance that they can self-medicate with 'as needed'. And playing devil's advocate, the concentration in the urine sample could be influenced by dehydration and how often someone went the toilet.

It'll take more than that to topple him from his position I think.

Reading on CN, the UCI actually have rules for what happens next - the athlete has to prove that the abnormal result was a consequence of the use of the therapeutic dose up to the maximum dose indicated. So he has to show that he can have that high a concentration on his urine even when only inhali g the allowed amount.

There's also an add-on: you need a TUE for salbutamol if you take 1600 micrograms over 24 hours. Seems like he has done that, but no mentioning of a TUE for it. Good thing he blamed the doc for telling him to do that...

Previous salbutamol sanctions are of course unconsistant and seem to come mostly from the rider's national organisation. Most recent was Diego Ulissi in 2015, retrospective 9 months ban for less salbutamol than Froome had, and Alessandro Petachi in 2007 (10 month ban and stripped of 3 stage wins), but also Leonardo Piepoli (2007, no ban).

Think he might be struggling to win BBC's SPOTY this weekend.

Just think how good he could have been if he didn't have asthma / bilharzia / typhoid / fucking ebola or whatever shit he comes out with.

Think I need a can of RT85 everytime I open this thread. ;D

It's cyclocross national championships in most countries this weekend. The elite races are tomorrow.

The British nationals tomorrow will be shown live on the BBC Sport website, and on a British Cycling live stream (on youtube and facebook). There's a preview here so I don't have to write one. ;D

Or you can watch the Belgian, Dutch, French and probably others instead.

Best races to watch....it's pretty much sealed up in most cases....Matthiue van der Poel, Wout van Aerts, Sanne Cant, Pauline Ferrand-Prevot,....can't really see anyone else take those. Dutch women...Marianne Vos looks likely, but they do have a few other strong riders. British will be between Helen Wyman and Nikki Brammeier...reckon Wyman will edge it.

Yeah...don't know whats happened to him. :(

I was going to put something together for the classics, at least an overview of what is on when, but haven't managed to get onto it yet.

Might just be you and me posting in here then :P

The Tour of Oman has started today, and the Volta ao Algarve em Bicicleta and  the Vuelta a Andalucia Ruta Ciclista Del Sol start tomorrow. All three have pretty decent start lists. The media attention will be on the Ruta del Sol, where the nearly-banned one will start.

1st stage from Fuengirola to Granada, I've rode half this route, early climb into Mijas doesn't look much but hurt me, then fairly flat 100k to Torre del mar, stopped there in January  on our flat coastal ride to Nerja, then the real climbing starts, it ramps up and favours the climbers but the last 40k is rolling and could see a bunch sprint. https://www.cyclingstage.com/ruta-del-sol-2018/route-rds-2018/

I'll chip in a bit more going forward, especially now we seem to have been given Eurosport (I'm certainly not paying for it, so no idea how that's happened - feels a bit like the free porn episode on Friends).
Nice one LFsea had to look you up to see who it was ;D

Haha, same here, nice one for posting his name or I'd have spend ages trying to find out!

Yep, cobbled weekend coming up, Kuurne-Bruessels-Kuurne on Sunday too. Gonna try and write a little bit about it, was going to do it yesterday, but ended up fixing my bike instead.  :)

Would love to have a bike to tinker with. I still can't motivate myself to get back on the bike after my near-death experience in London a couple of years ago. I think I might go and see a hypnotherapist and see if they can help. Doing my head in.

You could have a bike to tinker with and not ride it....

Go offroad? Or, alternatively, go indoors and ride on the track?

Near Death experience cycling? Or drinking with a couple of Rawk cyclists after that Chelsea game in Southwark...?

See Mark Cavendish has abandoned Tour of Abu Dhabi, one of the race cars braked quickly in the neutral zone causing mayhem and Cav went over on his damaged shoulder. I know he's 32 and probably finished but  I've always loved him and his racing style, not because he was a brit but because he reminds of a young scouse kid and was hoping he could snatch another stage win in the TdF against all the odds, Hope this isnt too much of a setback, he must have retirement at the back of his mind

He did another 5k before abandoning, so it might not be that bad. Even if something's broken, he's still got a lot of time before the tour.

Seems precautionary rather than longterm damage J

In a subsequent update, team doctor Adrian Rotunno said: "Mark sustained a concussion and a whiplash injury after his crash today.
"Due to the concussion, we were not willing to risk rider safety and the call was made for Mark to stop the race.
"A serious neck injury has been excluded in hospital. He currently has some concussive symptoms and neck pain, but is otherwise stable.
