Am i the only person who doesnt give a shit whether George has got a ticket or not

 ::)

How long has George been going to the games, I can remember him in the very early 70's and I think he has only missed a handfull of home games in all them years, I'm not sure if he goes to the away games anymore, but he used to up to around the early 90's.

Can't say that about the one local to me. Only those with the appropriate credits are entitled to tickets and they sourced those credits off their own backs. Got no offer of tickets from the club etc.

Fair enough but I know of ones who don't do this, because they don't have to. There are people going in droves to this final who might've only been to one round, if that. It's a fact. Supporters clubs in the main get 100's and don't have to account for who theyre going to, who's been to what. The worst of it is I don't think these people who get them quite grasp how short these tickets are, as they never have to worry.

I shagged that bird Emma that works in the Club Shop in Williamson Sq after the Derby in March, might give her a text and see what she's doing with that ticket cos if I remember correctly she told me she'd no interest in football.

No,the c*nts useless at getting the crowd going, last home game against Villa at the start of the lap of honour,he played Walk on and instead of following it up with La Bamba or Ring of Fire, the silly twat played some awful record that went down like a lead Balloon, fucking clueless at generating atmosphere at Anfield.

Erm....what about the fans, maybe they should give it a go more often, eh? Maybe less of the glory-hunter, day-trippers, and more of the "true" fans, who are actually interested in being at the match, instead of waiting to be entertained, would be more apt at generating an atmosphere....not just those who sit around waiting to listen to some cheesy 80's dance song to get going or to be "generated" by some pop song.

Saying that, maybe he could play some James Brown or Tony Christie, and get a mascot to dance around as well.

Honestly.... ::)

Fair enough but thats the exception when we're celebrating a semi or cup final win, it has fuck all to do with tunes played before and after the game at normal games

They work for the club, its a perk for them.

People working in bars get free drinks
People in hotels get cheep rooms
People in clothes shops get discounts.
Policemen get free narks.
People working for the airlines get cheap/free tickets.

Don't see why it should be any different unless the numbers start taking the piss. If you want to look for a piss take ,ask yourself why footballers earning 50k a week need and get 15 tickets for games?

Well let them have the occassional free tickets for home games. Not for the FA Cup final ahead of supporters who have attended previous rounds, both at Anfield and elsewhere!

Unless i'm mistaken any season ticket holder who's been to two games is guaranteed a ticket to the final aren't they?

so its hardly a massive issue

That could cause me trouble.

I was told of one receiving a very large number for Chelsea, and for the final. It seemed a bit odd, to be honest, but it may be down to the length of time the clubs been going. I don't believe it's done on games attended though - it seems much more arbitrary (and generous) than that.

George Sephton - 40 Years at Anfield
« Reply #62 on: August 5, 2011, 01:14:56 pm »
Just saw this blog on The Kop, and it says that the 14th of August will be his 40th anniversary as the announcer Any of the auld guys remember his first game? Or, do you want to share your best memories of George in his time as our stadium announcer?

Quote
On August 14, George Sephton celebrates his 40th anniversary as Anfield's PA announcer. His first game on the mic was Keven Keegan's debut against Nottingham Forset in 1971. it's a remarkable anniversary that deserves to be marked so I'm re-publishing this atricle about George, which was first published in the Liverpool v Fulham matchday programme in 2010....

http://thekop.liverpoolfc.tv/_George39s-Anfield-Aura/blog/4999483/173471.html?b=

And an interview he did for Well Red last season, for those that missed it.

Quote

“Early in the 1971-72 season, the voice changed on the PA system and I made a sarcastic crack to my wife one night about this guy because he did a couple of silly things,” he recalls.

“He played records at the wrong speed once or twice and he would give out announcements when the ball was in play, causing havoc. My wife said, ‘It’s all right for you down here. I bet you couldn’t do that.’

So I went home and wrote to Peter Robinson, basically saying ‘Dear Sir, Giz a job’.

“The next thing I knew I was sitting in his office and then in the roof of the Main Stand. Suddenly I’m the tannoy announcer. It was just surreal.”

Keep up the good work George.

Does anyone know why he changed his policy of not announcing goalscorers names? It's only been the last 7 or 8 years that he's been giving them out. He used to claim he didn't need to because the fans "should know who all the players were anyway" but it isn't always so simple when you're sat in the Kop and the goal is scored in a crowded Anny Road penalty area. Or by the opposition.

Anyway congrats to you George keep up the good work. It just wouldn't be the same with anyone else, especially one of those idiots you get at small clubs like Bolton who scream and shout on the mic and feel the need to play loud music whenever their team scorers; just in case the crowd have forgotten how to celebrate a goal!
Ya we have been talking in the half time, we need to do something, we need to change things and maybe if we score then it will be different and we scored and it was different.  - Rafael Benitez Ataturk Stadium Istanbul 26 May 2005

His commentary on that match always gives me chills and stands my hair on end.

People throw the iconic legend status around more and more these days but George is a Legend indeed in the truest since of the word.
I watched a YouTube video and decided that Paul Konchesky looked like a player.
