Fair play to BT Sport. As far as marketing goes, it's obviously about as transparent as it gets, but it's a few more games than a lot of fans got to see before Sky's stronghold. I hope they keep it up.

There's a match on free to air every round of European football. 3/4 if you include Europa league. How does this deal work out as 'more' for the fans?

Edit: understand what you mean now! My bad. Still this is in no way good news for football fans.

Get in ! Is what I say.  I'll finally be able to watch the games now after years of missing out due to Sky being a complete rip off.

Nor ITV.
I reckon they will.

BT have had to agree that there will be a wife variety of games available on free to air tv.

This means BBC or ITV or ods only channel 5.

I reckon BT will essentially sell on the rights to one game a week.  ITV will out bid the BBC as they are skint.

Simple.

Did you not watch it on itv when they had games

This is not going to be good for footy fans with more costs

BT have a channel on Freeview they can offer for free - we're not talking about the same 5 channels anymore.

Well they still have the FA Cup for this season and CL/EL for another year and a half.

And I've been a bit sceptical above but I have got to say the report on the ITV Evening News is just pure scaremongering

"...for the most part it means the end of Champions League Football on Free to Air Television"

"For 20 Years Top European Football has always been free to watch" - erm, not quite!

I think we will need to have confirmation of how many games will be free to air but, if they are to match their undertaking of showing every British Team at least once that would take up at least 5 of the 6 CL Gameweeks.

I hope BT adopt this in press releases as the official term for their brand of coverage ;D

Sunday Night Football is brilliant though, hopefully James Richardson gets to present more matches now they'll be showing a lot more than they are at the moment.

Loved ITV's coverage for our win in 2005.

Clive was brilliant as was Gabby Logan.

But since then ITV's coverage has been fucking dire and its all because of that utter c*nt Adrian Chiles

Roy Keane is the only ITV pundit worth listening to.

I hope BT Sport get James Richardson involved in the coverage - bloke knows Euro football.

I imagine there will be many free matches, and I imagine they will be on one of the big channels.

BT had to agree a compromise deal with UEFA to appease the sponsors.  What form this takes is as yet unclear.

The BBC won't get them because (a) with a Freeview channel BT have no need to 'sell' the free CL games to anybody and (b) the BBC wouldn't be able to show them anyway, AFAIK, since they wouldn't be able to show any of the pre-match sponsorship stuff which UEFA insist on.
