Prague and amsterdam... Oh and Munich during Oktoberfest.

I love those cities. They are more beautiful and I'd live in Munich or Amsterdam before NYC but its still the greatest if you know what I mean :wave

Hope you don't mind my input, but for the trip of a lifetime experience to New York, have a look at going on a Helicopter over Manhattan,  http://www.allnewyorktours.com - well worth the money. You dont get to exactly go over Manhattan cause all flights are banned etc re 9/11, but yu get to fly past Manhattan down pass WTC n all, loop round Statue of Lib and back up the River, rough cost 100 USD per person.

http://www.coachusa.com/newyorksightseeing/
UPTOWN LOOP, DOWNTOWN LOOP,  - during the day, and BROOKLYN LOOP at night as you get to go over the Brooklyn Bridge at night, with the Manhatten Skyline, all lit up - totally stunning.

Also included in the coach trip coats are discounts towards Ferry trip to Statue of Liberty, from Battery Park, and Empire State Bldg, my opinion ESB is best at night Oh and take the Video Recorder for all of the above.

Cheers
Shaun

Absolutely without a doubt go and visit the big apple. An absolutely fantastic place with loads to see and do and if you love shopping its heaven on earth. I go every year--usually just before xmas--to stock up on cut price clothes (designer as well) and nick knacks and really just to take in the atmosphere of the place. Have been lucky enough to do it twice on Concorde in the past which were experiences which will live with me forever.
If you have a choice of airports you can fly into IMO JFK is better than Newark as I found the latter very crowded (when flying with Continental into the terminal they use) and confusing.
Go for it mate, you will never regret it and will go back again and again

My sister went last year. She said its an amazing place and she said it can be tiring with so much to do in a day. I imagine  its a completely different world to somewhere like Liverpool.  :lickin

I have this on my wall. I'd love to go someday.
My mate is Sarah Harding's cousin from girls aloud, he looks a fair but like her which is a bit weird when i'm cracking one off over MTV like

Was on a plane to New York as this was posted!
Absolutely brilliant trip! fucking freezing but was worth it!
Didnt find it expensive at all! Subway for $2 and go were u want in New York! Food was good!
Thought Empire State was slightly expensive at $18 just to go up a lift and look, but it has to be done!
And Times Square at night is something to be experienced!

Can they stay in a hostel? I stayed here - http://www.centralparkhostel.com/information.html - and it's absolutely fine. Run by cool people, very clean. From $26 per night.

I've been twice and think it is a truly fantastic place to see. You must go at least once in your life.

2 stories from my 1st trip, I must have been about 14 yrs old, went with my older brother and dad. Dad had told us to say "no" to people that asked/offered anything....

1) Walked up the subway stairs into Times Square and my older brother buys some fags off a street vendor. Black guys clocks this and starts hassling for a fag, my dad's going "no" "tell him no", getting a bit heated and then the black fella says "what's the matter, you don't like niggers or something?" At that point, my dad says "no" who is obviously talking to my brother, but for what felt like 1 minute, there was a stunned silence and you could have cut the atmosphere with a knife.

2) On a bus, waiting to get back to our hotel to catch flight back home. Student protest going on in the streets and the bus was moving nowhere. We got off and decided to run as it was only  ::) 4 blocks away! We were running/jogging at a decent pace and managed to catch most of the flashing crossings just in time. Came to another crossing and it was flashing "Don't Walk" but we did and I swear to god, the police car that ran me down, yes, ran me down! sped up to catch me "jaywalking"! Well, I went over the bonnet and came off the car the other side with both cops getting out the car with hands hovering over their guns and my dad telling them "I was ok", "everything was ok" and we carried on running to the hotel. I was just badly bruised and scraped my leg / knee, but spose I was lucky not to get done for jaywalking! Mad to look back actually!

Anyway, you'll have fun, use your common sense as if you were in London and you'll be fine. Oh, don't jaywalk!!  :wave

I knocked a job back 2 years ago there, working for a subsidiary of RBS.  Spent a month thinking it over, but at the end of the day couldn't miss the reds play.

I'm sure it's an exceptional city, but Liverpool don't play there  :(

Not a beautiful city in my opinion, very interesting though. If you're there for more than a week, catch a train to Boston. Lively and very nice place. Really worths a visit.

Spent a week there. Amazing place with so many things to see : MIT, Harvard, New England aquarium, Charles river, Haymarket... Also did the whales watching tour in the Cape Cod Bay. Maine, Vermont and the rest of New England area is also very nice by september/oct.

its not a pretty city, very grubby in fact. A concrete jungle, with not much history(relativly). The thing that makes New York though, is the energy there. Its very 'alive' The people are very expressive, and best of all is the girls go gaga over british accents   ;) .

worth doing is the Staten island ferry. a free ride to staten island, that gives fantastic views of the NY skyline, and also goes close to the statue of liberty..

Staying at the New York Palace Hotel on Madison Avenue, decent location?

So then, what kind of things should I be trying to do in this week :)
