To be fair Tepid did say that the young were complicit as large numbers didn't vote.

Back in the day when we had a vibrant industrial base, incoming youngsters would have been introduced to the realities of working life by well-experienced shop stewards and at first hand, would have witnessed regular injustices in the workplace. They'd have real life political education lessons almost every friggin' day! With the demise of our industries and the decline of trades union membership, there's no longer any vehicle for kids to learn "how life is". There's a huge gaping void in our society nowadays and very little prospect of preparing them for a working lifetime of struggle against the gaffers/establishment/Tory/fascist oppression. The chain for ensuring an enduring democratic progression is now broken and today's kids are politically rudderless. The scourge of readily available dope and worse surrounds them everywhere they go. Has anyone ever wondered why this proliferation of shit that numbs the brains and the clear-thinking capacity of our youth seems unable to be rooted out and banished?
                                                                           
Conspiracy theorists might conclude it's part of an Estabishment grand plan which allows this pernicious poison to make its way into every community in the land, filtered down from the those  shady ever-present "invisibles" who rule us to keep them "happy", powerless and incapable of ever establishing any collective political awareness or any coming together to make a stand against the appalling injustices in our society.

It's got to the point where instead of being capable of crystal clear thinking about who are the REAL enemies of the people, we now have a growing generation of potheads and brain-numbed zombies whose only concern is where do they get their next fix from and how do they get the readies to pay for it. There might well be elements of credibility - and sadly, a creeping and exponential growth - in that terrible life-destroying "conspiracy". I'd liken it to the good old Roman approach of controlling the teeming masses with bread and circuses except it's worse today. The bastards who REALLY do rule the masses have stopped giving the bread.

I think we all sometimes feel a bit down on here, and for a panoply of reasons, and require to walk away for a while for our own sanity.
 
We are all diverse in our opinions, but hopefully also old enough to understand that any society, including rawk, also thrives on such diversity, as without it, it simply becomes a dull sounding echo chamber filled with identical drones fond of hearing a reflection of their own voice.

Sorry to hear this. I know he's been angry - as have I - with a number of posters on RAWK - especially in the political threads - and was becoming somewhat disenchanted with their expressed views. Never on OUR thread though.  Don't know what it was that has finally brought him to this. Just a shame he's gone because he's a decent fella and I wish him and his family the very best.

I've just seen his feedback thread. Can't be easy looking after your wife with dementia, been closely involved in looking after my Dad and now my mum with it and the pressures trials and pain involved really take their toll, it can be physically and mentally destroying, can't imagine how much  harder it is if it's your life partner and how that ties into feelings we all have with our own mortality and how susceptible to anger we can be when dealing with such issues.


The posts Phil was angry about are flippant and he does have a point about the way people look at the elderly doesn't do society any credit but when you're stressed easy to make these things about principal, when in other circumstances you'd be more patient with flippant posts. When I first came on here the first person I had an argument with was Phil, over complete nonsense, but the more I found out about him the more respect I had for him and he added to the site and I'll be sorry to see him go and will miss him.


I must admit I don't like the current affairs section and stay out of it for my blood pressure I don't like the tone of many of the posters who rarely seem to listen,  are so convinced they are totally right and everyone else is totally wrong, nothing wrong with believing in something or clarity of thought it's the arrogant tone it's rarely fraternal discussion and I've reached a point where I can't be arsed arguing with people who don't listen,  not the same in work we have great debates over things like brexit, Corbyn, Trump. I've always been a steward and seen as very left but always listened and knew people can vote the wrong away over say Brexit because they feel disenfranchised and not listened too but you never just write them off, you work with them, argue with them, unfold the contradictions over time gain their trust and when you're in dispute these people can be the ones who surprise you the most. Not naive and know some are write offs but for all its faults working class debate in work often at a more fraternal level than in academic world, it's amazing the power of The workplace having to work with people face to face day in day out, leads to a level of respect in political conversations rarely seen in social media or on here. maybe it's the format, anonymity, I don't know but I know  I don't enjoy posting in there, so I rarely do. Funny as ironically the tone adopted often reminds me of listening to bosses in work who have swallowed the latest management theory, never two way, talk at you, grandiose, passive aggressive, love the sound of their own voice, but people have heard it all before, don't engage and just switch off and have the real debates around the mess table .I like lots of RAWK but current affairs is  my pethate

Just back from a week in Lake Garda, absolutely stunning place with many beautiful small towns to visit. Took a trip into the Dolomites and that coach ride was a bit scary at times but once there (at 10,000 feet) the scenery was stunning. Think I've fallen in love with Italy.

It's always been our favourite place, the light reflecting off the lakes just gives everything a magical glow.

We have been and stayed on places on all the lakes over the last 35 years but Torri del Benaco on Garda is one of our favourite places.

Hiya. I only came on to answer messages. And after reading a few, I ended up starting a thread on Universal Credit in the politics wing. So, I thought I'd say hello while I was here.

In truth, I haven't been on because I'm sick and tired of spouting off and doing nothing but make a fool of myself. I've done the book on Clinton. It's been laying there for months. I can't/won't put it out, yet.

The inquiry is started. And we all seen what happened with Bettison. He got off the hook, as his case was prejudiced by public exposure. And I'm not pretentious enough, to think I can affect this inquiry. But imagine, being blamed for it being shut down after people have fought for over 30 years to be heard.

Fuck that. I'd rather look like a big mouthed divvy, than take that risk. I've got the proof of all I'm accusing. But people's lives are far more important than my drivel. So, that's that. I'll just have to look like a dickhead and hope I'm still round to have my say, when all this is done.

The so-called inquiry will take two years, at the very least. The guilty will never be named. Most of them will be dead by the time this is done.

If nothing else, it's made me more determined than ever to survive the fuckers and have my say on what they've done. And what they've done is a crime.

There should be no inquiry. There's more than enough evidence to put the guilty on trial. And I've no doubt, a jury of 12 ordinary people would convict the guilty, regardless of their wealth and power.

Oh well, it looks like the people Sir Phillip Greed will lose his knighthood. Maybe, the noble lords will give it to the people he ripped off and abused. So they can share a few minutes nobility and chivalry amongst them.

When I visited China last year I saw an old guy in the garden every morning doing his Tai Chi. He even had a sabre of some sort for some of the moves.

Now if you or I did that here we`d either get called a ponce or the police would arrive and ask us about our sword, but he looked the business and it was obviously doing him good. There were also groups of older ladies who congregated in the parks and street corners around dusk and did their routines to dance music.

I kid not, as I watched, she said, she'd take his house and sickness benefits. She'd already had his mortgage. Only his supporters on Twitter saved him from the streets.

It had been going on for ages. When I seen it, Fairhead was holding the BBC purse strings at the BBC. She's now in The Lords, meaning she's got a hand in writing this country's laws. She should have been in prison, when she had that fella made destitute, for exposing her crimes.

HSBC got collared helping rich tax dodgers, just around the David Cameron pushed Fairhead into the Lords. And that was just before he fucked off to Panama to count his tax dodging. But at that time, Cameron should have been in jail for secretly getting HSBC off the hook in America, where they were facing charges of drug money laundering and funding terrorism.

Mr. Ethical exposed the theft of over a billion quid, by HSBC from the public, over 12 years ago. He used to be high flying financial lawyer. They took everything from him, including his mind. He admits, it sent him crazy. But he's still fighting the same fight. Fuck that. But I take my hat off to him...

Just to say... if you like a tune and a show, and Thomo is coming anywhere near you, go.

I've honestly never seen the man on better form. How the fuck his fingers move up and down them frets, with that power, is beyond me. And his voice was strong and good, as ever. And I don't know how he does it, but every album he brings out is as good, if not better, than everything else he's done.

Hopefully, he'll be going for many more years. And I hope I catch him a few more tiimes, but he's knocking 70, now.

He played for over two hours.  He laughed and joked through out. And it's not one bit like, him. But he even had a bit of a dance about. And if that miserable aul bastard can do that, I can last two years.
