I’d take being boring if i was winning majors all over the gaff, on some of the hardest tracks in the world. Doesn’t get any more difficult than Shinnecock and Bethpage. Far from a flat track bully, unlike some. Yes McIlroy, I’m looking at you.

Great that gmac has made the Open, great news.

Nice to see that Rory of old has turned up for a weekend. Let’s see what he does at Pebble

Rory's now -10 on the day at the 18th with a birdie there to get a 59. Incredible golf.

Good day for the Irish with Shane Lowry looking like he'll finish 2nd and GMac clinching his Portrush spot.

Having a look at the tee times, & it's a 2 tee start tomorrow & Friday which is weird as thunderstorms, & any other bad weather is not forecasted for both days.

Usually do don’t they?

Thought was only the open and the masters who do all off 1st? Even masters only do it because field is 50% size of other majors

Didn't know that, i suppose 2 tee start at the Open can be more tricky at courses like Carnoustie & St Andrews which have double greens.

Think they do it at open due to very long days and tradition more than anything to be honest

They go off in 3 somes. First off 6:45 am local.

Tiger tees off at 2:09 local time...5 1/2 round later he finishes at 7:40 pm.

Last tee time is 2:42.. will probably finish at 8:30 pm ish...

When i claim 5 1/2 hour round, that is typical in a major for the first few days as they try to get 156 players on and then off the course

Also, fyi..official sunset time is 8:32 pm local.

Apparently distance is much less important at Pebble Beach, it's more about accuracy, so hopefully it won't be the same old buggers winning this one.

Weird course because Mickelson has won on it 5 times and he's nobody's idea of an accurate driver and it normally attracts stellar fields but has been conquered by Matt Gogel, Arron Oberholser, Steve Lowery, DA Points, Vaughn Taylor and Ted Potter Jr just this century. Length never hurts on any course and Dustin Johnson normally goes extremely well here. I'd be amazed if it's not won by somebody that can boom it out there personally.

Interesting side note this week is Jason Day has Steve Williams on the bag, Woods' long time caddy.

Add 8 hours to those tee times for those of us in the UK, going to be a long few days of going into the early hours.

The course was covered in a blanket of sea mist today.

When they do the AT&T at Pebble each year, the course is slightly laid out different because the fairways are "wet". Which allows some players a better chance to hit the fairways, like Phil.

In the summer they lower the cut on the sidehills from the top of the side hill down towards the lower side because the fairways are drier.

It's been discussed on the golf shows how some holes are laid out different.

Rory mentioned today on 11 he hit his driver on the line he takes in the AT&T, thought it would be middle of the fairway and it was in the rough. The fairway has been moved to the right.

Greens will be firmer that earlier in the year as well.

It's funny as St Andrews have a similar pro-am tournament to the AT&T in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, normally held in October.

I quite like courses like Pebble Beach, where you can't launch the ball as far down the fairway as possible, some holes like the 4th have 90 degree angle dog leg, then you have others alongside the Ocean

It has some of the smallest greens of any USA course, which makes it one for real scramblers, or players who are good with Greens In Regulation figures.

Lots of good scoring today. If you've finished Level or worse then you've really missed out.

Pebble Beach looks great. Love how the 18th green (and entire hike) is just years from the Pacific Ocean, literally (Jamie) at the edge of a continent.

Shame about the time difference though! East Coast courses are better for that reason alone.

I went for Fleetwood and Molinari. Molinari is -3 so in decent shape. Didn’t realise Young Hodgson was leading, he was out quite late last night. Good to see him back at the top of the leaderboard.

i thought about john rahm but then you end up backing 8 players

Garcia at 70/1 was a big price.

i was gonna back him to the miss the cut but the odds were shite

Crazy to be watching it last night and had to go to bed around 11:30 and there was still 2 plus hours coverage after probably. Should be a great major and will be interesting to see which of the Europeans can challenge on Sunday. Crazy thing I heard in recent weeks is that there is a couple of private courses in the Monterey area that are even better than Pebble Beach. Here is one

Astonishing how often Rory leaves himself with a wedge for a second shot yet ends up with a tricky ~10ft putt.

Koepka looking ominous and Woodland looking ridiculously solid. Hope this jinxes both of the boring yanks.

Great stuff from Rose. Had to watch Woodland chip in and hole miraculous putts to save par but just hung on in there.
