Anyone heard of this band? If not, you probably soon will, big things are predicted for this band. They are very much a cult band at the moment, but id say, soon enough, they will be a HUGE band, if not, i, like many others, will be extremely surprised. The new single "I bet you look good on the dancefloor" is currently on Radio 1's A-List, and Amazon are currently inundated with on-line pre-sales.

For those who haven't heard their music, its a very "urban-rock" style, with an uncompromising sound, extremely good lyrics, its hard to explain, but it all makes sense when you hear it. Anyone else heard their music? If so, does anyone dislike it, i would be surprised. Watch out for these, they will be big.

"Don't believe the hype, believe the music...."

Thought I remembered the name from somewhere. One of my mates went to see them last night, he said they were excellent. We're off to see Babyshambles tonight and at 17 quid a ticket they better be worth it!

They remind me kind of the early Libertines' type style, although with different content.

yeah, they're quite similar, like the Arctic Monkeys, the Libs had the same potentinal to hit the big time, however, thanks to a certain Mr. Doherty, they never reached their full potential. Lets hope the Arctic Monkeys don't follow a similar path, and consquently, forever remain a "nearly" band.

Also, i think, although "up the bracket" was a great debut album by the libs, the Arctic Monkey's studio demo's ive heard, already have a better sound, in terms of riffs, lyrics etc than the Libs ever achieved.

The Arctic Monkeys have signed a lucrative £1million publishing deal with label giant EMI.

The Sheffield lads have also signed a £725,000 deal with Epic in America confirming that excitement around them is global.

The news comes just a day after the band played the biggest gig of their lives at the 1,200 capacity London Astoria.

As previously reported on Gigwise, the band were due to play the Mean Fiddler but were forced to upgrade the venue due to phenomenal demand.

On top of that, the Americans are interested too and they’ve signed a deal with Epic over there for £725,000.”

The news compound predictions that the Arctic Monkeys are set to be the biggest British band since Oasis.

Catch them at a small venue if you can!

Thats a bit of a bastardization there mate. Lyrics were one of the strong points to the Libertines, i gave these young fella's a whirl a while back on reccommendation and the first thing that hit me was how basic the lyrics were; no creativity, not much symbolism etc (not much drugs you could say, but then... they are just out of bragging about their first pubes so..)

Arctic Monkeys' debut tops charts

Arctic Monkeys stole the top spot from pop trio Sugababes
Sheffield rock band the Arctic Monkeys have topped the UK singles charts with their debut track, after building up a fan base on the internet.
I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor trumped pop trio the Sugababes after three weeks in the number one spot.

Arctic Monkeys gained a significant following thanks to the marketing power of the internet, and were eventually signed by Domino Records.

Prodigy took the album top spot with singles compilation album The Law.

Sugababes fourth album Taller in More Ways dropped one place to number two, with Simply Red's Simplified entering the charts at number three.

Blunt's Back to Bedlam is 2005's biggest-selling album

Katie Melua's Piece by Piece held the number four spot, ahead of James Blunt's Back to Bedlam, which this week became the biggest-selling album of the year selling 1,526,000 copies - and overtaking Coldplay's X&Y.

Arctic Monkeys were widely predicted to enter the charts at number one.

The band has been communicating with fans almost daily on their forum, and concerts have sold out around the UK. The buzz was picked up by record label Domino, home of Franz Ferdinand, who signed them in June 2005.

Boy band McFly came in at number three with new single I Wanna Hold You.

Robbie Williams dropped two places to number four with Tripping, while Pussycat Dolls, featuring Busta Rhymes, dropped from three to five with Don't Cha.

Anyone heard of this band? If not, you probably soon will, big things are predicted for this band. They are very much a cult band at the moment,

The new single "I bet you look good on the dancefloor" is currently on Radio 1's A-List

Watch out for these, they will be big.

"Don't believe the hype, believe the music...."

I'm convinced this is some sort of set up, or in joke at radio one - kind of a "lets test out how powerful we really are, and whether we can truly MAKE a shite band huge" thing.

They really are piss poor, this Artic monkeys lot, and I've heard a few songs now. Just nothing there at all. Sub standard badly performed schoolkid garage rock,

If Radio had not decided to push them so forcibly, they'd be nothing. And the world would be a better place for it.

I just can't believe so many people are suceptible to marketing hype, rather than trusting their own ears.

The thing is though Nidge, Radio hasn't really pushed them at all.

All the hype created around the band was through the Internet, only the last 2 weeks, maybe 3 have been through the Radio.

On a side note, anyone know what tracks are on the "Beneath The Broadwalk" EP or LP? (I never know the difference)
If you're reading this signature as a result of reading a post of mine in 'The Bets Thread', then please ignore the aforementioned post as I'm likely to be spouting bollocks and if you follow me, you'll lose money. Thank You.

For the record nidgmo, i knew about this band long before they ever had any radio play, so this "in joke" or "set up" has had no effect on me, or influenced whether Ive liked them or not. Nither has any of the "marketing hype". I simply like the music.

Fair enough, everyone has different tastes in music, and not everyone is going to like the same thing. Thats what makes music so interesting, and so diverse. So I'm not going to argue the fact that you called them "piss poor", because that is totally your opinion, and one which, obviously, your fully entitled to.

However, Radio hasn't played a bigger part that you may think, its been mainly done by a large cult fan-base, extensive gigging, and most importantly, the internet. For example, me (a fan) posting a thread on different forums across the net. Now, last time i checked this thread had 379 views. If the 379 people or so who have looked at this thread have each gone and told 10 people about the Arctic Monkeys, and this trend multiplies, then they are going to get exposure quick, subsequently generating a lot of hype, which then in turn, gets them more exposure, and publicity. However, this hasn't forced people to buy their records. In fact the band have published around 45 FREE songs for their fans, and people have still bought the songs, so has that been enforced by a mass marketing hype?

They have been very much a cult band for around 6-12 months, and even if they had no air play, they probably would have got in the top five anyway, so to state that radio one have had a marketing campaign to make "a shit band huge", then that argument is slightly flawed. However, in respect to your musical taste, Ive got no problem with that, maybe i think some of the music you listen to is shite; but thats my opinion, and thats whats so good about music, everyone has their own opinion and tastes.

However, before you conjure up your "conspiracy theories" on the basis that you don't like the band, get your facts right.
I should have been at work. Make of that what you will.

Oh yes, they're certainly very cleverly marketed and bilt up, using everything availible to them to further their name, and cult following (apart from actually releasing any singles and letting them become hits.

What I'm saying is, without the internet and now radio campaigns (with Zane Lowe and Jo Whiley pushing them for at least a year), they would be no-where.

If they just released that record last week, without the marketing hype - would it be number one now? of course not.

Modern day excersise in media mis-management. Malcolm McLaren will be so proud.

Whose, the Pistols or the Monkeys? ;)

I think he was referring to what became known as "the great rock and roll swindle" where a band could acheive far more than their collective talent through management of the media and creating a fan base gullible enough to believe they were, actually, fans of the best band in the world.

I think he was referring to what became known as "the great rock and roll swindle" where a band could acheive far more than their collective talent through management of the media and creating a fan base gullible enough to believe they were, actually, fans of the best band in the world.

Much like the Sex Pistols? Vastly un-talented but due to mass-media hype over-achieved?

*gasps* The Sex Pistols are great. I've got their album and each song tells a story. I have the Arctic Monkeys single. Not bad but was very surprised it went to number 1.
