Obviously the rain can't be helped but good point to on the timings!

Lancs 4 down at Lunch (Tea? Dinner?)...Hameed went cheap again, really don't think he can or will be picked for the first test. His time will come again but think he needs to find some form out of the spotlight.

Mohammed Amir playing his first game for Essex and took a wicket in his first over. Sounds a very good signing for them, they already have Middlesex 4-2.

Yeah they're flying at the moment. Cook being available and in stellar form is helping them no end.

Agree about Hameed - He is in awful form. Fancy they'll go with Jennings though after his two decent knocks against South Africa A for the Lions the other day.

Essex won again, taking the last 5 wickets for 10 runs. Simon Harmer took 9 wickets and 14 in the match for the second game running! Got excited about him, then found out he's South African.

Lots of rain affected draws so Essex really stole a match on the rest.

Good comeback from Notts with the ball. Surrey got off to a flier, they were about 80 odd for 1 after 12 overs. Superb innings from Stoneman though. Notts need 298 to win.

You'll have to go a long way to find a better knock than that by hales today. He's won that game on his own.

Yep, absolutely sensational stuff from Hales. I didn't see his innings but we'd have fallen a long way short without him. Good to see Chris Read get a few on what is likely to be his final appearances at Lords too.

Tons of wickets fell yesterday in the Country Championship. Not least at Scarborough where Yorkshire lost all theirs for just 113. Mohammad Amir with 5 for 18 off 11. Essex made 231 and Amir is at it again this morning. Yorkshire 18/3. Lees got a pair of ducks and not wanting to feel left out Lyth made one too in his second go!

Lancs only managed 149 before dismissing Hampshire for 224 at the Rose Bowl.

Essex in prime position to take the title now. Impressive when you consider they were only promoted from Div 2 last year!

Bad to worse for t'Tykes

48/6 in their second dig. Still needing another 70 to avoid an innings defeat before tea on day 2. Amir running riot again.

Three former Test players in the Yorkshire side, made a solid contribution of 0 runs between them.

Lancs will probably lose from here but have started ok in the 2nd innings.

Not Hameed, 4* off 34. 50 opening partnership though.

Dave I counted him, Lyth, Bressie Lad and Rashid. Lees got a duck too but is uncapped isn't he?

Anyhow. It's 7 down now. To perform like this at the Scarborough Festival of all festivals just isn't right.

Lancs match rained off for the last day and a half having fought back to get in a strong position. Second in the table by a whopping 41 points behind Essex who had a very easy fixture this time round.

What the hell's wrong with Yorkshire?

Is it the ability to put runs on the board that is killing Yorkshire?

Balance has done really well but he's been out the last few games. Not many of the other batsman have done much. Also, the likes of Bresnan and Rashid haven't scored the depth of runs they normally have. Them 2 (plus others) have dug Yorkshire out of trouble in the past when the top order has failed.

Bowling wise they still look strong though I noticed Brooks. Plunked and Wiley hadn't played much in the county championship this year.
I think Jookie might just be the best fisherman on this thread.

Looking good for Lancs on day 2 vs Warwickshire. Bowled them out for 200 and ate 403/5, just picked up a 5th and final bonus point. Livingstone is 181*.

Currently second in the table, Essex have a big lead but looked in trouble when bowled out for 169 yesterday but they bowled Somerset out for 164 and are having an improved second innings. If they do lose Lancs could gain 21 points on them if they win.

9 wicket win for Lancs for a maximum 24 points.

Annoyingly Essex look set to win again, they have Somerset 60/5 on the final day, needing another 220 or so to win. Hopefully rain heading Chelmsford way though.

Fair play to Essex. They've been battering teams of late and not lost all season.

If they avoid defeat at Old Trafford next week that's pretty much it isn't it?

Definitely, lead by 36 points with 4 games to go. A Lancs win would cut that roughly in half and give them a chance but hard to see them clawing it back if they don't win. To be fair think Lancs have exceeded expectations themselves in the 4 day game this season.

Both sides seem to have their strength in bowling, think their attack may cause Lancs a lot of problems.

In other news, did you see that a crossbow stopped play at the Oval? Very strange!
