Recommend some browser Extensions
« on: February 24, 2016, 05:29:12 am »
These are for Chrome but might exist on others.

Usability

Go Extensions Link
Simple icon added next to your address bar so you don't have to trawl through the settings menu to access your extensions.

OneTab Link
If you're a heavy tab user this can be useful, hit the button and it'll close and condense all of your tabs into a list.

AlienTube Link
YouTube comments for the most part are complete garbage, this extension replaces comments with Reddit discussions (if the video was posted there). You'll see YouTube comments if there's no Reddit discussion. Currently broken due to a YouTube upgrade, see here for fix.

Imagus Link
Hover over a thumbnail and it will display the full sized picture or video, very handy.

Adblock Plus Link
Probably the best of these.

Reddit Enhancement Suite Link
Does a bunch of things, I mainly use it for the infinite scroll feature.

Pretty Facebook Chat Link
I don't think most of the 'features' work but it will let you have Facebook chat windows in any size and on any part of the screen.

Fullscreen Anything Link
Press CTRL and Space (followed by F11) and it will fullscreen anything flash related on the page your'e on. Useful for certain flash games etc. that have fullscreen disabled.

Unspoiler Link
Enter key words (Star Wars, Game of Thrones etc.) and if they're found on the page you're on you're given a warning.

Productivity / Dev Stuff

Session Buddy Link
Save your entire browser session to use later, allows multiple sessions to be saved so good for managing work/play etc.

StayFocusd Link
Allows you to manage the time you spend on certain sites, fair bit of customisation. Example

Window Resizer Link
Will quickly change the page you're on to a specified resolution (720p etc.) so you can easily see how your content looks on other screen sizes.

WhatFont Link
Find out what fonts are on a particular webpage.

The courts, the rich, the powerful or those in authority never lie. It has been dealt with 'by the courts' nothing to see here run along.

AlienTube just isn't working, tried it on Opera too and the same problem.

It works if you hit refresh, or come to YouTube from another site. But not if you're browsing through YouTube.

EDIT:
I found a fix that I've posted here:

I like Google Dictionary, it lets you double click on any word on a page and it pops up with a definition.

Also:

Lastpass, for storing passwords.

Ghostery, for blocking trackers, ads, cookies etc.

UBlock Origin - prefer this to Adblock Plus

Smartup Gestures, for Opera style mouse gestures in Chrome.

Disconnect  Web security

HTTPS Everywhere Encrypt your browsing whenever possible

Reddit Enhancement Suite Enhancement for my 2nd most visited site.

Selection Search Select some text, then select search engine to look up with.

uBlock Origin Lightweight ad blocker

Used to use Ghostery instead of disconnect, then I read this article:

You can turn that off in the settings.

With regards to Ad Block plus. They allow acceptable ads.
So basically what that means is if you pay them they'll show your ad.
For this reason I no longer use it.
STFU and agree with me.

I just don't trust them anymore.
Of course the day they start letting blatant ads through you can just stop.
STFU and agree with me.

Question.

At work the ISP must be located in ireland as everytime I use google on chrome it uses google.ie

I've changed the setting to always use google.co.uk but the results still come back with websites ending in .ie

Any pointers?

Followed the advice there but there is no region settings on my Google or Google chrome.

Address bar shows .co.uk but results show .ie
