And after all the shit the song is getting

'Writing's on the Wall' is the first James Bond song in 23 attempts to reach the UK number 1 in the charts

Shit songs regularly hit the number one spot, more regularly than non-shit songs, I would have thought ;D

Trying to avoid reading any of that, I know a lot of the journalists were shown it last night and Times and the Guardian are both carrying 5-star reviews.

There is a couple of mixed reviews but generally the reviews seem to be positive. I hope its good because the last 2 films i saw in the cinema were Avengers and Jurassic Park, so would like to watch an actual good blockbuster. The running time does concern me still.

I think it depends on what era you grew up in, the VHS era supposedly caused a drop in movie lengths compared with the 60's so while they have gone back up again, they aren't much longer than that earlier time.

One thing that does seem to have changed is more directors being allowed to put out longer movies leading to less director's cuts turning up later with just stuff like Peter Jackson padding out his already bloated movies with extended editions.

For those who have already seen it, how well does Daniel Craig do in this one, some of his overly negative comments about Bond in general make me wonder if he has just phoned it in.

Spoilery thoughts on the film:

Spoiler
Thought it was disappointing, personally. Plenty of good moments but it drags quite heavily in certain sections and just lacks energy overall.

Highlights: Opening scene in Mexico City, Bond infiltrating the Spectre meeting, the train fight, the section at the villain's lair and parts of the final showdown.

Really don't see why they hid that Oberhauser was Blofeld. It barely got a reaction at my screening last night - maybe would have had more impact if they hadn't shown the cat about five minutes before he reveals his real name? Like Khan in Star Trek, keeping the villain's identity a secret didn't help the film. And Waltz was barely in it! Didn't like that he had such a personal issue with Bond, unnecessary.

The middle section of the film - Bond going to Austria and then onto Tangier - didn't do it for me at all. Feel like they could easily lost half an hour from the running time and kept things going at a better pace.

I rank Casino Royale and Skyfall higher. It's better than Quantum of Solace, obviously.

There was a period in the 80s and 90s when a script would not be read if it was a page over or under 90, which equates to 90 minutes screen time.

I think most feature films now are closer to the two hour mark.

Yeah pretty much agree with all of that.
Just back from seeing it, not a patch on Skyfall or Casino Royale really.
It's was decent enough but yeah, dragged in places and for me there were no really great moments or stand out scenes or even memorable moments.

Was all fine...did a job but yeah, nothing special.

Hard to disagree with that.
Spoiler
Definitely could have been twenty minutes shorter.

Oh and Lea Seydoux might just be the most horribly miscast bond girl of all time. Absolutely no chemistry between her and Craig, probably due to her being about twenty years younger than him. Thought her performance was really awful as well.

I found it quite dissapointing. I'm a James Bond devotee, I love it, know the films inside out and thought it was overall a let down. That's not to say its a bad film, its not, its decent and has many good things, but it doesn't cohere in my opinion, and suffers coming after the brilliant Skyfall.

Daniel Craig has two gems of 007 movies to his name, one poor and one average I feel. May be time to call time and bring in the new cycle of Bond now.

Can do spoilery talk but the theme song was a real let down too. Absolutely unremarkable, totally forgettable, without any James Bond soul at all

Agree with a lot of that, I did enjoy it but it wasn't as good as 2 of the other Daniel Craig movies.
Given some of the other Bond themes over the years, a lot of them memorable - this was just the opposite.
