To answer you, Durlmints... this is the grassmaster system, between every small patch of natural grass they put an artificial grass fibre, it makes it more durable or summit or other...etc etc...

From their website:

A DESSO GrassMaster ® hybrid grass pitch is a 100% natural sport grass pitch reinforced by millions of Desso artificial turf fibres.

with a patented technique, specialised installers inject 20 million Desso artificial turf fibres in a natural grass mat
the natural grass roots intertwine with the 20 cm deep injected artificial turf fibres

result:  a high-tech, stable pitch that can take 3 times as much playing than a normal, natural grass pitch

It also costs over a million quid as well, so it's not just a cheapo bit of turf that your mate has nicked from the local park

We use grow lights, will easily be ready.

I had assumed that they would lay fully grassed turf rather than laying the impregnated turf and then seeding it.

I think the idea is the grass roots grow around the artificial as it gives a lot more additional strength to the roots, preventing divots, etc. So makes sense for it to be seeded rather than turf laid.
