The Northern Ireland Football Thread GAWA
« on: September 7, 2013, 03:44:49 pm »
Apparently there is no thread on little Northern Ireland.

The team put on a great performance against Portugal last night, but  the two stupid red cards let us down in my opinion. Fucking Chris Brunt.
And a certain Cristiano Ronaldo who had a worldy.

I was in the Kop end at Windsor, fans were absolutely amazing for the 90mins, highlight chant for me was "You're Just a Small part of Spain". Really felt like it was gonna be one of those special nights at Winsdor when we got the second goal.

Can't pick between Fergsuon, McGinn or McAuley  for the NI MOTM
Ooohh Gareth McAuley

GAWA, discuss.

ah right, cheers.  ;D

yeah, pity about last night, it was looking good for a while before the sending off.
the North has a history of pulling out some great wins now and again, thought another one was on the cards there for a while.
I didn't see any of the game though.

Didn't they sing "You're just a cheap Gareth Bale" at Ronaldo aswell? Thought that was amusing. Pity they never reached a major tournament when Healy was beating England/ Spain/ Sweden. Can't see it happening for a long long time.

Haha yes. Ronaldo got some amount of abuse between the standard "Messi" chants to the "You're just a shit Keith Gillespie".  :lmao

It is a real pity as you say. We got some huge scalps under Sanchez but never got to a tournament which is really heartbreaking.

I think O'Neill is doing a decent job considering what we have to deal with, losing our talent to the south etc. We had the tactics spot on last night but we missed Hughes. and O'neill can't really legislate for Brunt and Lafferty losing the plot and getting two absolutely fucking stupid red cards. Still we need more quality pushing through the ranks within the next couple of years if there is any hope of every qualifying.

Anyway we are still 4th in the table  8)

Great goal from Patterson. Really convinced he should be played as lone striker all the time. Hope Lafferty never gets picked again, fucking donkey still pissed off at him after that red card against Portugal. We look more dangerous with Patterson's movement rather than that useless lump straying offside every time we get the ball in a dangerous position.

Anyway, fucking typical that Luxembourg score right before the interval. But we have been lacklustre.

Mon te fuck Northern Ireland, need to be beating Luxembourg :butt

Good result for the Northern Ireland boys. With our poor away form and our poor record against Hungary we were pretty big underdogs going into this one. Not the best looking football I've ever seen, but good character and a hard-working performance got us a deserved 3 points. First big step in maybe, just maybe getting to the Euros.

Great result and top tactical performance for Northern Ireland - full of pride, teamwork, organisation and intelligence - with no little ability, pace and purpose (fancy a manager swap for Hodge?)

Really hope they make it to the Finals - if they can get a result away vs Romania in November it should be looking good for them.

The start they've had should really help but it's still a tough enough group for them. There's no top quality side but apart from the Faroes they all look quite even. Those two away wins already in the bag could be crucial as long as they can do the business at home which they often do. Would be great if they make it - would be funny to get a group of England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland at the Euros!

Certainly will for the likes of me who 'support' either or both or neither depending on their results.  :D Currently, I'm supporting both. Already planning on making the trip to France should either make it.

Hopefully I'll be going myself, even if they don't qualify, though I will be pretty disappointed if they don't now.

I hear stories, of people down south getting behind the North when they qualified for the World Cups in 82 and 86. Should the same happen I'm sure people down here would do the same again, although we would be pretty gutted not to be there and the North are!

Huge match tonight! As big as I can remember since Sanchez was in charge.

Roy Carroll out with stomach pain.

Shouldn't be too many surprises elsewhere in the line up.
Big night ahead at Windsor!

The Kop has been demolished! The construction teams have worked really hard so that some of the new stands are ready for tonight.

We only have about 1/4 of a proper stadium! Won't be a huge capacity tonight because of this, but still should be a magic atmosphere.

Carroll out a big blow.

Lots of big chat coming from the players.

Can hardly blame them I suppose but pressure is slowly coming on.

Win tonight would be massive.

Davis is underrated for the job he does for Southampton.  He's key for NI.  Is Lafferty fit?

Ryan is sadly injured again and yes Conor is 3 years older than Ryan, Conor has been superb in these qualifiers, he should be playing at a higher level than League 1.
