'Vikings' - New Show On The History Channel
« on: May 8, 2013, 12:53:30 am »
Just noticed that there is no thread on here for this show. Its brilliant. Just watched the first season in one sitting there.

If you liked 'Spartacus' or 'Game Of Thrones' this will be right up you're ally!

About the Show - http://www.history.com/shows/vikings

Trailer - http://youtu.be/XQFQN3-Pm8E

Enjoy!

Hmmmmm....watched the first few episodes but it lost me. It looks nice and there are some really good bits but it lacks a little something and is definitely not on the level of game of thrones. Not a bad way to pass an hour or so though

Agree that it's not on par with 'Game Of Thrones' but has potential. The first season has been and gone, and shit is only getting started. I can see it being massive after three or four seasons. Time will tell I guess!

All caught up with this. This is a guilty pleasure of mine of sorts although I have no idea why. The acting is god awful, the dialogue can't even be called average. The visuals aren't anything to get pleasure from.

Can't wait for the new series of this. Watched the first and loved it, but missed the 2nd series when it first aired but managed to binge watch it one weekend in Jan - so all ready for the new one.

Decent episode that.

Spoiler
Lagertha will have an uphill battle when she comes home with her enemy much closer than she thinks (who'd have thunk it!), her son will be a twat if not already and probably dies this season, things will go south with the English king as episodes go by and the translator will outlive everyone else there.

Decent opening, good finale.

Spoiler
Can't see Rollo lasting beyond this season. His time is up, forgiveness goes that far and there is no way he comes back from that. That's why Ragnar wanted Rollo next to him, to control him, but now that's gone. Which leads us to his son who knows fuck all from politics and had two wrong decisions. Off you go son.

In that dream sequence at the start, just after the doors to Valhalla closed in his face, was that brief little sequence that followed meant to be flashbacks or was it premonitions of what is going to happen in the rest of this series? I might have to watch that bit again.

This is well worth watching.
It's more of a history drama, with a serious twist of action and obvious exaggeration of actual events and people that inspired it.

There is just one thing that's driving me nuts. Certain characters who will speak English amongst them, and then ask Athlestan to translate between the two languages, only for them later one to talk to one another directly in English, perfectly understanding one another and not needing Athlestan to translate.

I know it does get quite confusing, but tbf it's quite clever as the Vikings hear the English as foreign tongue and vice a versa, depending on which group are talking will dictate who's on screen voice's are in foreign, for instance take a scene where the Vikings are dining with the king of Wessex, it can start with us (the viewer) understanding the English people as there talking to the Vikings and applestone is translating in the Vikings foreign tongue and we here the Vikings responding in fucked up Icelandic but then we then hear the Vikings in English as the scene shifts over to the Vikings talking amongst themselves and the Wessex lot talking in foreign Anglo Saxon. Also the Vikings do pick up the English language worryingly quickly.
