What a perfect username for this topic.  :)

I really can't remember names ;) but the Grasshopper or the Bulldog are the touristy places where they sell you pre-rolled stuff in addition to selling by the gram. But there will be a ton of other places walking distance of Centraal Station on the opposite side of the Red Light District. Speaking of which, go there and have a look. It's interesting but I'll never go there and err, be a customer.

Leidseplein (sp?) is a cool place to hang out in. Decent bars and clubs although be aware of a few gay clubs there. They managed to drag me into one of those and only an hour later I was informed it was a gay bar. The giant penis on the sign should have been a dead giveaway but I wasn't functioning normally.

There's other great things to do there like the Musuem's, Canal trips, Visit to Cheese and Wooden Shoe factories, Tulips, Cycle tours etc. but if trying the local weed is your thing then - Silver Shiva, White Widow, ___ Bubblegum (forgot the name) are decent. Stake out a nice place to eat though. There's New York Pizza chains everywhere. 3 Euros a slice. Then there's a KFC by Dam Square and a Burger Joint right by KFC owned by a Pakistani man. Say Hi to him from me, always gives me a free burger.. :P

The hotdog stalls right opposite the station aren't too bad either.

PS - Do try the 'Space Cake' followed by a visit to Infinity - The hottest club in the Dam.

Good Luck.

If you have not yet booked a hotel try to stay at the Amstel Botel.

Right i n the centre cheap and clean. You can feed the ducks out of the window if you get a canal side room.

We thought it was great at the time. ;D

If you don’t use cannabis very often then basically any café will do for you because you’ll probably not appreciate the differences between the vast variety of strains.

There is a pretty cool place (I forgot the name it’s been about 6 years) which is above the red light district. Big window over looking the street with big cushions and funky tunes.

Also if you want a cracking breakfast there is a place which has like a train carriage in. It’s like a railway theme place. Again the name escapes me.

EDIT: The train place is called A-Train Hotel

Leidseplein (sp?) is a cool place to hang out in.

In my opinion that was the best place to go,good clubs and all that

Bit of advice for you

Anybody asks you do you want them drugs dont bother even looking at the c*nts...

Also unless you are a hardened smoker dont go near the pre-rolled joints, they have white widow in them and that shit fucks you up,youll end up going back to your room and having showers and drinking orange for the day...If I was you I would go with a light Hash

Also the red light is good, really save place to go,I think its the safest place in Amsterdam

Dont try the skunk - you'll probably throw a whitey.

Just treat the weed with caution and you should be OK.

I dont want to go on the website as I'm in work, but there's a site that's dedicated to the coffeeshops.
Google will show it up in the first few links.

I recommend Wonder Bar and Lost in Amsterdam - 2 places to get caned in comfort; not far from Centraal Station.

Barney's coffeeshop on Haarlemmerstraat is the best place to get your herb, when you walk in you can see all the cups they have won for the best strains of green in cabinets on the wall. My faviourite from Barney's is probably G13, mind blowingly good shit ;D On the same street you have Dampkring and a Greenhouse coffeeshop, these are also some of the best places to get cup winner strains of weed.

I personally wouldn't go anywhere near places like the Bulldog or the Grasshopper (especially the Grasshopper) as they charge a fortune for drinks and the green isn't the best in Dam.

Enjoy yourself, I've been 5 times and can't wait to go again in August ;D

Depends in which order. If you have a couple of smokes first and then a drink you will be ok as long as you dont smoke anymore of the wacky tobacky.

If on the other hand you have had 6 or 7 beers and then you take a smoke you will be in dire trouble..

You've got to have at least one pint of Heineken whilst you're in Amsterdam, they're fantastic.

Just noticed from your profile your 19, be prepared to get asked for ID all the time. Almost all the coffeeshops I've been to in Dam have asked for ID.

If you don't do the weed much then you need to be a bit careful. I'm not a hardcore smoker , but dabble now and then . Went to a Coffee a few years ago with a 2 mates . Bought one of those pre-rolled joints and shared the single one between the 3 of us .

Fuck me , it blew our heads off ! Started off with the giggles then turned a bit heavy. I'd just smoke part of one first to guage the strength just to be on the safe side .

Tried the space cake last time I was there which was pretty mellow . 8)

Great coffeeshops:

420 Coffeeshop - just 1 min away from the red-light, cool place (used to be a bar)
HomeGrown Fantasy - try the Cheese - 2 mins from Red Light (quiet area)

For breakfast, try Barney's coffeeshop on Haarlemmerstraat as mentioned by stoner - they do fry-ups.
People getting chonged with a fry=up ordered - great way to start the day.

Greenhouse effect is always ok. If you find route66 they have these amazing leather bed type chairs, just what you need after a smoke. The new dampkring not the wood one is good too.

If you don't smoke that often then one j from over there will do you right for a few hours.

Grasshopper is shite, stay clear.

I'll second Route 66 - although it suffers with having the budmistress closed away from the smokers.

t'Nes Cafe is another good one - just off Dam Square.

All you need to know in here - a printable map too:
