It's the sort of weather that should dictate we stay at home and not bother with work.

But alas, tomorrow is my first day at a new job..

All schools in the counties that have a red status were ordered to be closed earlier.

I guess that means all school are closed in the country.

Thankfully it seems that Ophelia will recognise the border and leave us in the north alone. Well, that seems to be the opinion of the authorities anyway. Department of Education NI have been mutes with regards to whether schools will be open or closed.

Yeah how stupid. Seems the individual schools are deciding themselves. I have to collect my sister and her school decided to bring all the kids in and finish at 2. Just as the thing is supposed to ramp up  ;D

My mother has rung twice to remind me to bring in the patio furniture. The second time she realised she'd already rung me and said "sorry, wrong one..." and hung up.  ;D

Sunday Times B&A Poll tonight

FG 34 +3
FF 31 +4
SF 14 -5
Lab 3 -1
Sol/PBP 3 +2
Ind All 3 nc
Green 2 nc
SocDem 1 nc
Ind 8 -4

Bad for Indos, Labour & Sinn Fein. Fine Gael & Fianna Fail must be happy with that. Polls are a snapshot in time we all know and understand this but they cannot and should not be dismissed out of hand.

From this Poll it tells me that Ireland is heading back to the Centre ground which echoes bad news for the far left especially with FF & FG back to 65+ % is proof of that. Times of recession look gone and the PBP types have no voice with people as unemployment falls taking people back to work and having some what more money in their pockets. In addition what has to be pointed out is with this Poll FF have to be delighted with that figure especially after FG had their conference this weekend. Sinn Féin have taken a hit too and Ireland is now heading back to Celtic Tiger times and Centerist Politics as prople are now seeing light at the end of a very dark tunnell, politically speaking that is.

For me the Far Left PBP/AAA/Solidarity and partly SF must be worried as they had times of austerity and never really made a breakthrough into Irish Political Leadership rolls in Leinster House. Labour are fucked, I mean done, gone out of here, 3%, ouch!! Howlin is a horrid little man and he will never bring Labout back to the hay days of 20+ seats, SF own that vote now.

The left just seems so fragmented - 3 mainstream left wing parties, 1 far left grouping and then the nationalist/populist Sinn Fein. It's a complete mess and offers no alternative to FG/FF, even as a junior partner in government.

A 3 point lead for the governing party mid-parliament is pretty comfortable, you'd expect that to be extended in an election (assuming they don't mess up too badly).

Still left with the problem of forming a government though - neither FG or FF will get anywhere near a majority, there's no credible partner (especially with all the bloody independents), so it's back to minority (or grand coalition) government.
